@mario: I don't often come to the defense of the government but I feel ur attack on Lindiwe Hendricks is unwarrented. The oil industry last week admitted that they messed up...Why should she resign? While we're on fuel issues, did you guys hear the joke that on hearing about our troubles Uncle Bob said he would release millions of litres of petrol from Zim's strategic stockpiles @krypsta: It's quite bad at night. Today we had a light thunder shower.

A few tanks of leaded/unleaded won't do damage to an engine, not to any significant extent. One may experience a very minor amount of pinking or run-on if you've used a different octane, but nothing drastic. Some tuning should sort out older cars which use mostly leaded fuel, according to the Motor Manufacturers Industry. In fact, there are 7 garages in the Eastern Cape area who've indicated that they'll tune older engines for free.

Oh,the cricket...
So Rudolph and co managed to hold Warne et al at bay long enough to force a draw.
A few very poor umpiring decisions didn't help matters during this test either.
Plan to finish the very last of the Christmas shopping tomorrow;hate the last minute rushes and hordes of people swarming the shops.

@Kryptik You are absolutely right buddy ! I have phoned VW and they have toled me exactly what you have said :-) @Brix I think that the journalists have done a great job exposing the whole thing. The minister is at fault, after all even a child would have realized that you don't do this over the holiday season no matter who sad what ! ! ! I have learned from first hand experience that a uninformed/inexperienced 'person in charge' tend to believe/accept any nonsens fed by his/her subordinates. Once there was a afirmative captain promoted at a nearby police station against the will of the existent staff. They fed him so much sh!t making him take wrong decisions until the Area office got fed up and replaced him. I actually felt pity for him.i ask myself - is the minister of minerals a 'puppet' too? You see by her saying - the market gave her the wrong info actually she sad - I am stupid by choosing the wrong man to inform me.I am not able to decide for myself what is up and what is down.

@mario: And ur answer is? Love it or hate it affirmative action is here to stay, right we're just experiencing some growing pains. In the same breath the crisis can't be blamed on affirmative action...I didn't see a token darkie being grilled in parliament last week.

All things being equal, i'd really love to see our politicians acting like 1st world politicians for once. They earn the same (or larger) scale of salary, have the same or better perks, yet when they mess up they don't do the honorable thing and resign. Heaven forbid if an opposing politician is exposed, then the cries for his/her resignation are very vocal. If i could have one wish fulfilled this year, it would be to have Members of Parliament compelled to spend at least half of their time in their constituencies, visible and accessible for that time. I have to confess that i haven't the vaguest notion who my MP is, mainly because he/she/it hasn't been seen on any public platform here that i'm aware of.

I am not against afirmative action per se. Althou I've always hated to differenciate among people because of their skin color - past and present. Some form of apartheid must be in order to undo what the 'old' apartheid has done. But please let someone 'educated' do the 'critical' jobs regardless of their skin color. After all everyone in SA will be 'disadvantaged' if a 'less then optimal' person is used for the job ! Look at the health minister and the AIDS policy - need I say more. I don't know why all of a sudden Plato's words come into my mind = the worst form of inequality is when making inequal things equal = I don't expect to be promoted now as much as Fikile did not expect it 15 years ago. Now he just got promoted to Capitan and I congratulate him after all we've worked for years together. What does bother me thou is the reason - he has finally managed to pass his driving licence ! Does it make sens to you ?@?!# don't worry , neither do I understand.

Just the world we live in today. We have alot of apartheid still going on, and alot of racism. True, i am white, i do make racist remarks some times, for example, i wont date a black girl, but now i ask you this, is that really so wrong? Does that make of a racist, never mind the fact that i got more black friends than white?

The best thing we can do as South Africans is to be open and honest. Asking for a minister's head when she wasn't responsible for the mess up is a step too far...Manto should step down, not for incompetence, for dragging her heels over ARV's. I didn't hear mario calling for her resignation because Aids does not affect him unless his maid contracts the disease from her husband. He complains about petrol and the fact that his mobility was affected...if you got beef ask people in New York what they think of the MTA strike.

I don't tolerate anybody using a derogatory term for my black, white or Indian brethren, period. I'm happy to speak of the coloureds as chloras, etc mainly because of my over-developed sense of humour, and because we're probably the one grouping that can laugh at itself the easiest in SA.
On the topic of politrix though, it's about time that the role played by the comrades in the old days be set aside, and a performance-based set of values used to discern whether a public official is doing his job or not. Inability ought to be dealt with swiftly and fairly. It's pointless our Prez preaching service delivery when the ppl responsible for such service are slack.
We need to remember that they weren't forced into positions, and as such should be equal to their tasks. Having said that, the Health Ministry, and others, need a reality check. Those who don't perform have to be booted out, finito. No moving them to other posts in other departments, their contracts need to be performance-based, and adhered to quite strictly. There's a lot of catching up to do, and slack public servants don't hasten the process one bit. Thabo has, imo, been performing a good task overall, it's his underlings who haven't performed. And just as he has to shoulder the blame for non-delivery, so should Ministers shoulder the blame when their underlings don't deliver. If Parliament was run on business principles, we'd have a lean, mean, stream-lined machine right now, instead of a gargantuan body wavering at times on the brink of anarchy within the ranks. Lindiwe aint responsible for the mess re- the fuel crisis, but she should be dealing very decisively with those responsible.

@ Kryptik,
Totally agree with that statement!
There are people of excellence as well as 'Grade A' arseholes in EVERY population group, and thus generalised derogatory statements are certainly in no one's best interests as regards building bridges towards greater harmonies within the Rainbow Nation.
