Sony preps extra-low power mobile GPS chips, draws on motion sensors for help
Many of us can vouch for smartphone navigation being something of a battery hog. Sony would like us to navigate relatively guilt-free: its D5600 and flash-equipped D5601 chips chew no more than 10mW of power for everything they do. Most of their peers demand more than that just for the RF side of the equation, Sony says. They also won't lean on outside help for their location fix. Both chips talk to GPS, GLONASS and similar systems, but they further share the increasingly common ability to use an accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer to get a more reliable position lock. Don't expect thrifty GPS just yet, when Sony ships the basic D5600 in June and D5601 in September; that doesn't even include the time spent to build a phone or tablet around either of the new parts. We'll be patient if they reduce that anxiety over battery life whenever we're getting directions. |

You just sound like a Crazyman, Every phone that Sony makes is as much important for the market shares even if it´s not the top specs etc, i think that Sony knows much more than you wich strategy they need to use to gain more popularity and marketshares. More phones = more market shares, they aren´t in Apples League yet where they can make just one model a year and sell millions of it. In maybe one year they can make 2-3 phones in each Segment a year. 1-2 High end, 2-3 Mid end, and one lowend. but they are not there just yet. |

since Sony & other manufactures depend Qualcomm SoC chipset they won't be able to make only 1 Flagship every year.
because the availability of Qualcomm new chipset is always in the Second Half of the year. While the competition between the companies is usually at the beginning of the year.
so there will be always 1H\\2H flagship ...

I think it's about time for Sony to experiment a little, why not develop an EVIL/CSC/SLD with an APS-C sensor and E-mount on it? A NEX-5R powered by Android with decent hardware (Dual Core krait, decent RAM) and that would be sweet

To clear up those who are confused:
Sony WILL be at MWC in the form of a booth but Sony WILL NOT be having a press conference to announce new products.
Whether or not Sony will just put the new gear on the stand is up in the air but very rarely has any company not had a press conference but gone on to have new stuff on their stands anyway.
The last I heard was that the announcement of dogo/huashan (possibly others) will be at a dedicated event in March. This is to minimize the announcement to release time.
