I really don't like the sliding key lock. its also too low down on the side
I much prefer the M600 method of pressing and holding the back key in for a second or two but SE seems to have decided not to let us decide for ourselves whether we use the slider or the back button

Funnily enough Masseur i quite like the sliding keylock button, think its an excellent feature. But yes it is situated quite low on the phone.
A few things i need to ask though, i see from a previous post that the charging cradle seems to have some sort of green light emnating from it...is it me or does that really happen??. Havent seen it on mine but then its quite bright in my room but just wanted to make sure if everyone elses is doing the same thing.
Another big annoyance for me along with the media player volume is the fact that you cannot add the rss feed as a shortcut. Reason why thats a big problem for me is that i do read them and have quite a few and it would have been good if they could have made it a shortcut rather than opening the flip and going through a few menu's to get to it. Also i have noticed in FC mode once the rss feeds have been updated it shows up as an icon...perhaps they should have made it a menu in that you could just tap it and it would come up with the updated feeds. It works in FO open mode but not in FC mode. Seems like this phone is better when its in FO open mode trather than FC mode.
Does anyone have a fix, i might be missing something but im sure im not.
Other than that, this phone is constantly amazing me with the nifty little features it has. Only problem being is that im now left with a little over 5.1mb of operating ram which is causing a few crashes here and there.
Also anyone else find that once you open the browser the task manager refuses to shut it down...kinda hangs on you...only way ive been able to fully shut it down is by re-booting the phone. On my task manager it says its taking 109k of memory which is quite a bit considering.

@Spawn, Task Manager only shows the RAM used by the app not the total memory allocated to the app which obviously inlcudes all the data it might be using. Opera seems to need more than 9mb of RAM availble for it to run. It works okay with 12mb from my quick checks.

OK US CREATONS! THis info is for you. So please READ!
Now for SE to release the P990"A" it MUST be tested & APPROVED by the FCC ... which hasnt happened yet UNLESS we all missed it when the P990i was tested. If we DO see a P990a I'm pretty sure it'll have EDGE but NO N.A. UMTS.

Is this different from what you're talking about?

I just ordered mine from Mobile Planet -- they have 32 in stock here in the US, but none for Expansys in the UK. I paid the extra for overnight, so I should get it tomorrow sometime! This is very exciting.
Quick question to owners out there: does the P990 come with a temporary plastic film over the screen like the P910 and other SE phones do? Because my screen protector won't be here until probably Monday.
Thanks! |

No!
It surprised me too. I found the MFOP very difficult to apply.

@ Prom1
Thanks for the update man. So, does this mean that we in the US will never ever be able to use a non-US specific 3G phone on a US or Canada UMTS network, since the frequencies don't match? Hate to think that I have to stoop to the level of buying one of those cheapo branded teenie bopper phones from a carrier or someplace like Helio...
Any news/ideas on what they intend to do with the 2100 frequency being auctioned? Any chance they deploy all off them or that a P990a might have both bands for UMTS vs an EDGE solution? |

Thanks for the answers! That is very strange how SE would not protect the screen during shipment. But I suspected that from the looks of the photos people have posted of the phones in the box. I guess I will just remove the protector from my P910 and trim it a little. I'm sure it won't cover the screen's increased width, but it's better than nothing until Monday. Can't wait to try the phone! |
