it is true that you cannot catch up with technology, but we should also admit that SE has been somewhat of a late follower of innovations for the last couple of years; e.g. X10 SHOULD have had Android 2.1 and dual-touch as it was released.

Though I am a devout SE fan, there is not a single factor that distinguishes the X10 from its rivals, but there are many options that the rivals offer which X10 does not have. Long story short, there is really no sound reason to prefer this phone over others, and unfortunately, there are many to prefer others to X10.

Speak for yourself. The x10 is a brilliant phone which is gaining real traction with consumers.

@aydahm there's plenty about the X10 that distinguishes it from other phones.... why else would so many people choose it over others that DO have Android 2.1 and/or AMOLED screen? I for one could have easily gone w/ the Nexus One, but chose the X10.

1) It's just so damn sexy. There isn't another phone on the market that can match it in design, IMHO.
2) Quality camera with integrated face recognition software. Don't think there is any phone on the market that can match it.
3) Timescape/Mediascape. Don't use timescape all that much but mediascape is very useful. I love the infinity button when listening to music. Saves a lot of time and makes accessing media so much easier.
4) UX Interface - Unique to Xperia Android devices... obvious distinguishes them from the rest.
5) TrackID - sure there are apps available that can do this, but trackID is better and is an SE exclusive.
6) Bright LCD screen that is EASILY visible in direct sunlight... and while it's not a full 16M colors, i haven't missed it. The screen is simply brilliant.

Just a few of the bigger reasons... there's plenty of other reasons as well and i'm sure any X10 owner will agree. The experience of the phone makes it worthwhile and "better" than another phone with similar or even slightly better specs.

^But you cannot deny we could have gotten better specs than what X10 has right now. Like the sound volume, if you watch the X10 video review made by steve from allaboutsymbian.com, the keyboard click is way louder than the audio playback. I just feel that X10 is a very capable device, hardware wise. SE just have to really work hard to utilise it.

Does the .16 firmware help at all with the volume issues? I'm running on .14 and feel like one decent firmware upgrade would pretty much make this phone perfect for me. It's very close as it is. LOVING the Android OS (and what have done with it) so far.

Great spot on the patents front, but you or Saltorio from here really need to let McKebapp over at XDA Devs know.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=668132

Hopefully that would give them the extra encouragement to root this gorgeous phone and prove the MT thing once and for all.. You never know, that might even be enough to quiet our favourite troll.. Anyone else wondering if he was stranded far away from his computer by the Ash Cloud?

To all of the guys who spoke in defense of the X10 as standing out from the crowd +1 or 10. As far as I'm concerned it's the only good looking Android handset, as good as the HTC devices might be, they are boxy, as are the rumour pics of the next iPhone...+ she still has the best HW (Screen excepted) of any Android phone on the market, and the SW seems to be getting better with each FW and once the OS Update comes out, it should be even further ahead of it's competition..

I can't wait to get one.

not sure if other android handsets have this but the things that made the x10 stand out for me is (and im only comparing to phones that are out now as i needed a phone now!:

1. Massive 4" screen
2. Brilliant playnow music store built in (as far as i know this is the only android handset with a music store built in and not the ones from network providers.
3. 8 megapixel camera
4. better looking than most other android devices.

there you go and im hoping for some as promised psn integration in the near future for the xperia series, some ps3 remote play and video store would be great and (i know this would be a real push!) some psp minis integration, i really want field runners on the x10!

@ Trickois.

I have posted both of Anders260 and rrs_ndrsn comments over on XDA forums.

However, one poster Musse_1 seems to think the device has a Clearpad 1000 screen.

Excellent input guys!

I have seen some screenshots of baseband 1.0.20 on a X10. Does this mean we have another update due shortly for the X10i?

@AndyD777

Cheers for that. Yes I saw his post but then flamso asked him to back it up he hasn't yet? I would find it surprising and disappointing if SE had been so cheap-arse as to use the oldest, worst screen snaptics productin their flagship handset. Has anyone asked Snaptics outright?

@shepy does that mean that other 2.1 designed Apps are equally/largely X10 friendly too? I had read somewhere else that you needed to root handsets running earlier incarnations of the OS to get Helix to show up?

Anyone taken the plunge with Noreve yet? I am really tempted by their leather case for when I get my new pride and joy.

http://www.noreve.com/product[....]sson_Xperia_X10_Tradition.html

Sorry forgot to say to jkthewarrior that I had seen an article about the new Vaios getting remote play from the latest PS3 FW:

http://www.engadget.com/2010/[....]-play-from-pc-bitstream-audio/

So Sony are definitely broadening the range of devices, and they have strongly hinted at this at MWC... Everything crossed eh?

Cheers all.
