I sucessfully upgraded my Firmware on my W800i to R1AA008.

My ear volume is definatly louder, and no hiss.

The only problems I have is when someone calls me, and I have that contact with a picture asigned to it, the displays shows nothing for about 2-3 seconds before showing the contact Photo/Name.

And the Appointments alarm is now very soft...... Bummer that cause I use that alot.

My friends K750 started doing that one day too... I tried to start it like a million times... short slightly white light and then nothing... he took it to an SESC and they said it was fine... when he got it back everything was fine... they claim nothing was done to the phone...

I FOUND THE ''SOLUTION''..

Hold on/off button.. till you see a white screen ..(if it doesn't work wait a few minutes and start again) keep holding it.. and press rendomly few buttons.. if everything went OK.. phone vibrates and turns ON..

i was kinda shoked when it turnd on.. cuz it said that the battery was completly empty.. but that's very werid cuz i charged the phone just a day ago..

I've spoken to a technician at my service provider here in Norway (NetCom). He is responsible for testing new FW in their network. After I told him about this hissing on R1AA008 (a couple of days after release) he flashed a K750 and discovered excactly the same. He has put a little "pressure" on SonyEricsson and they got back to him and said they're aware of the problem. A solution was not far away SE told him. So let's hope it's soon a new FW on its way.

That's great news! I think a lot of people are waitiing for a solution for the annoying and disturbing hissing sound while talking on the phone. Let's hope it's a problem that can be fixed with a firmware update... I have noticed that the problem is there with R1N035 also though... it's just that since the volume is much lower in that firmware the hissing isn't as easy to hear... so people, the hissing IS there in R1N035 as well and I'm afraid that there is a hardware problem with a lot of K750/W800 phones... people just have not noticed it! But I'm sure that if more people actually take time and listen carefully, they'll notice the hissing even with R1N035.

So... if that's the thinking, then R1L002 also has the hissing but, as the volume is way lower, it can't be appreciated... right?

Which do you consider is better then?

Overall, Im happy so far with R1N035 (I cant update yet anyways). The only thing that disturbs me is that I can easily use the phone for 5 days in a row listening an average of 3 hours daily of music with a single battery charge....and thats cool, but as soon as I start playing Java games, the battery drop dramatically. Im talking about 15-20% drops with 15 or 20 minutes of play. Nothing fancy, just some Sudoku and Midnight Pool.

Are this "Java Battery Draining" a R1N035 only problem or can I expect the same on later firmware?

Peace

Hello again!
You know my story (well itīs simular to others) i was angry about the crayppy/hissing sound on the Mp3-player after upgrading the firmware.
It might be as you suggest- that there are hissing on R1L002 but it doesnīt appear since the volume is lower the the newer firmwares. (though i didnīt notice any really noticable higher volume on the newer firmwares) And i prefer the older older firmware with the "lower" volume and no hissing.

It's not only the hissing while talking but also the phone breaking up calls when you're talking with people who talks low. And much background noise while pausing. This was introduced with R1AA008.
Seems like SE has gone over the limit of the hardware when increasing volume in the loudspeakers. Especially the front speaker. Try the test mode and you will discover a lot of clipping/distorsion already by 5 of 7 bars in the front speaker.
