1. The package as mahora calls it is actually what Europeans call contracts. You get a contract with a certain payment and charging plan and you'll usually get a cheap or even free phone everytime you renew the contract. It usually goes better for people on post paid (fatoora) and they will get great deals, although mostly your monthly ishtirak pays for the phone over the contracts time.
I'm sceptical because as far as I know they don't have that system on Mobily, which I would think will be the same name as our network, less advertising cost and a nice name.

2. Transission won't be free. Obviousely signing up will probably be free since the price of a line nowdays is almost zero but getting you same number will cost around 50LE, you didn't have to pay in KSA so why should you here????????

I'll swith if they offer subsedised phones, maybe a W850 or even something better.

1- With the first point, Touche' mustafabay with the explanation except for two things: Mobily doesn't do packages yet coz Saudi Arabia is not yet a saturated market like Western Europe (the worldwide number 1 model market for mature markets); It was just a "monopolized" market. 2nd thing, Mobily name cannot be used anywhere else in the world, it's a registered trademark now and noone can reuse it, even it's the same mother network, so we'd expect a new name, and for that there might be a contest the prize of which can turn mustafabay into an overnight millionaire
2- Touche' again. Number portability will not be free, otherwise we'll have dancing dialls flying all over the 3 networks all the time

Saudi Arabia is not saturated? If they don't have packages then why would we?
Now why wouldn't they reuse Mobily? Actually same mother network would mean exactly that. The only company in the world that loves to give a different cheesy name to each new network is OT. UAE Etisalat only went with Mobily because Saudi telecom is called Aletisalat.

Saudi Arabia is only 27 million people (5 million of which are non-nationals) VS. 78 million in Egypt ( the official 73 million Egyptians+ the offical # of Sudanese residents in Egypt)
Sudi Arabia's 1st mobile operator has 9 million subs, and the subs there were forced to use Aljawal coz it was the only operator.
Saudis don't really need packages yet coz the market there still has potential for high-revenue- generating growth, contrary to W. Europe where everthing is almost sold at flat rates.
Etisalat will use packages in Egypt in a desperate, yet new-to-the-market strategy to gain subs, where statistics show that the worldwide 3rd mobile operator growth rate is 20% of the market over 5 years, a fact that Etisalat will definitely work hard to change.
As for the name, even from a row point of view, the name Etisalat is generically troublesome, and they were in trouble with their 1st subsidiary coz of it.
To think of the new network as Etisalat Egypt or in Arabic Etisalat Misr is possible but not really probable. I think they will be more tempted to use a better and more innovative name like Mobily, but this remains to be seen.

I'm with mustafabay, Though my concern is the lack of WIFI. Should they have put it, it would've been my next phone. Also I'll be needing at least a 312 mgh processor power, and of course guys you know why.

It's kinda boring with only three guys on this thread so from tonight I promise that I'll keep all three of you company when I'm not up to mischief.

What's happening with 3G/HSDPA in Egypt, have they launched yet?

brix...i think we will have 3G here in egypt in march 2007 when the third network launchs its services by that time......
i don't know why...but guys, i can't wait for the third network...currently i am on mobiNil and basically they suck....the network coverage is rubbish ...waiting for u Etisalat

about the Nseries i like, it's N80...it's nice...but it's too expensive for me, so i consider the n71 ...

what do u think?

Well thank you brix I hope its not because the South Africa thread is too crowded and you ended up having to move north

On 3G, well March 07 is the date for our third company to start its services and it'll will be 3G. The yet to be named company is owned by UAE Etisalat which is the owner of Mobily, KSA's second carrier and first to install HSPDA, hopefully we'll at least get the name which I quite like.
The best thing is that the company is going to have to be extremely agrresive with its pricing and hopefully we'll even get contracts like Europe. One thing we won't have to worry about is expensive 3G

I also hope I'll be able to get a summer job/training with them next year.

I don't see a house at those co-ordinates, well not in the crossshairs, do ou always stand there or is that where you burried your pet frog ?

ROLMAO @ mustafa: I don't know whether you're checking my house up on Google Earth...actually you won't find my house but if you follow the co-ordinates you'll end up in a neighbourhood of Cape Town.

I don't know if you guys ever browse the South African thread but we've got a whole lot of things happening as far as telecommunications go. Hope 3G takes off in Egypt, in South Africa it's been mostly business and high-end users who've made the step up...I'm yet to make my first video call.

As I said a new company is coming with 3G and the old companies will follow later. Basically we'll have a similar situation to 3 in the UK. They'll have to be extremely competitive to get a market share.
So we'll be lucky with 3G. A lot of people are tired of our duopoly overcharging for everything so they'll be happy to switch. Keep a look out for 3G uptake in Egypt making big headlines.
