The theory about X-series being the 1H flagship makes sense to me. This way they can keep their 6-month flagship cycle (important in Asia, which is their key focus anyway for the Xperia X Performance, it isn't heading to Germany and UK for example) with this pseudo flagship. This way they also can move to a 12-month flagship cycle for the Z-series.
But the release doesn't make much sense. IFA is beginning of September. The worldwide Z6 rollout should be in October. That would leave like 4 months for the Xperia X Performance to breathe, though maybe it arrives a bit earlier. Maybe it's a bit exaggerated anyway, because of the 6-month flagship cycle over there and it surely happened in the past.
If the release is indeed in June, then it's also a pity that they returned to launch phones so far from announcement, especially because they improved in this regard, when compared to the past.

Ok, so I've finally had a chance to look through the announcement aftermath properly.
I think the Xperia X Performance is not the Z6 in disguise. But I do notice the focus on more human interaction from inanimate objects. The Assistant thing, although it looks like a hipster dalek is quite cool. As is the smart ear.
I think they' transitioning Xperia to be less mobile device orientated and more smart living (of which smartphones are a part). This may be what was eluded to in the interview with a Sony exec about a year ago where he was quoted linking Xperia as a key part to the IOT sector.

It's a known policy from Sony Mobile to not discuss any future or un announced products...
+ If the rumor of the next flagship not being in series Z is correct, then these guys are correct

Sony Xperia X to hit US, may usurp Xperia Z entirely - It looks like Sony is yanking the Xperia Z line entirely, replacing it with the Xperia X line both in the US and abroad.
"...The source of this turn of events has roots inSony Germany’s Facebook page. In response to a fan stating that she was really only interested in a Z6 or she would be done with the brand, Sony responded:
Hallo Sarah, ein Z6 wird es nicht geben. Die neue X Serie steht unter einem veränderten Konzept, welches den Bedürfnissen unserer Nutzer noch stärker gerecht wird. Du kannst dich natürlich trotzdem auf die aktuellste Technik in unseren Smartphones verlassen - das hat ja nichts mit dem Namen zu tun. Viele Grüße, dein Sony Team.
In English:
Hi Sarah, the Z6 will not continue to exist. The new X series represents a modified concept that will meet the needs of our users even more. Of course, you can still rely on the latest technology in our smartphones - which has nothing to do with the name. Best regards, your Sony team.

From that Android Authority link, one of the comments mentions a comment from the Sony Mobile Bulgaria team:
"The Xperia X series will be available in Bulgaria. More information about the price of the devices will follow soon. This line is not a continuation of the Xperia Z line, it is just another product line."
Sony's social reps haven't always been reliable in the past... I'm not saying Sony is one of them, but many companies outsource their community management on social media to 3rd parties, so I take these posts with a grain of salt as most times they are just giving default responses.
I'm not believing anything until I read something from an exec or if a new Z phone never eventuates (6 months or so)....

That's what I noticed more of as well.
Still that Smart Ear needs more. it's HUGE ... not unlike Ericsson's original honker earpiece ... the first Bluetooth headset ever. Still I think the Sony Smart Ear lost something. I just purchase and LOST a $220US pair of Jabra Sport Pulse headphones that where awesome in sound quality but the smart living aspect was it was able to track my hear-rate, blood pressure and motion to know how many steps I took, pedel revolutions (bike) or running pace with a built-in coach that would also work with music on my phone OR iPod Nano! The quality on my Xperia Z5 was supreme. You gotta know how upset I was ... but I met an incredible woman with sex appeal, grace, intelligence and just so fine with smiling eyes that more than made up for everything thus far this year
Still I think Sony needs to improve their accessory game ... advertise what makes them unique to the Sony experience yet still make them compatible and appealing to other brand users. Keeps revenue's rolling in.

Sony confirms no Xperia Z6, X series unofficially water-resistant
http://www.androidauthority.c[....]cially-water-resistant-676238/
And other related links saying the "end of the Z series"
http://www.engadget.com/2016/02/24/sony-no-xperia-z6/
http://www.trustedreviews.com[....]launch-an-xperia-z6?source=rss
http://www.stuff.tv/news/end-[....]nfirms-therell-be-no-xperia-z6
.... then less than an hour ago, this article showed up at Techradar.
Sony hasn't ruled out the possibility of a Xperia Z6 in the future
http://www.techradar.com/news[....]peria-z6-in-the-future-1315689
I think Sony should just announce a new Z that's coming... or make it formal that the X will be their new flagship line. All these rumors going about the net is, I think, more damaging to them in the long run.

Sony should during the presentation of the new X series just have declared end of the Z series.
I just feel they are not sure yet whether to kill it off or not, hence the reason for all the different answers from Sony representatives. Things do point towards the end of the Z series though.

if really they will delete the Z line forever, then i think it's better to kill all XPERIA brand and move on
it will be the worst decision ever made in history
i honestly never had any phone except Sony / Ericsson in the 90th . then Sony Ericsson in 2000th . then Sony
but now honestly i was in the market for a new phone after a year now from my Z3 compact . and i was waiting for the Z6
maybe now i can have a real innovative phone
maybe Nextbit Robin with its Cloud ready or Fujitsu Arrows NX F-04G with its Iris scanner or Yotaphone III i called them and they confirmed by the mid of this year with its Dual screen as predecessor or even Sharp aquos zeta docomo sh-03g with its amazing screen body ratio or BB Priv with the full keyboard and BB security |

You'd be doing yourself a major disservice in getting any of those over a Samsung, LG, iPhone or Nexus, best of luck though.

No offense but BlackBerry priv is great. You would be surprised how the camera performs under low light. I don't think Sony will kill the Z line. There is no logical reason. |
