Conclusion is Here. Same terrible postprocessing, strong noise reduction and blurry lens. |

Apologies if I read this post if it is not referring to the Z2, so please forgive what I'm about to type.
I'm VERY confused.
Android is the most configurable end user mobile OS in the entire world, and quite possibly EVER (I hold that judgement until someone can prove to me the underpinnings of Ruby/Java can be individually updated by the end user without blowing/replacing the entire OS; this was possible in Symbian UIQ & S60 2nd Edition+)
Since this ... I'm confused why post processing and compression by these incredible smartphones are so much complained about and not enough solutions to resolve the issue for every major smartphone out there using Android like the former NSE OS devices made by SonyEricsson that we could easily see in the vast majority of threads right here on Esato for products like teh W800/K650/750/810, etc etc.

It's not OS fault, it's sensor fault. Sony can't match the quality with expectations. It's actually really sad, because it was Sony Ericsson that brought first really good quality lenses (i.e k750i). The reason is simple, it's economic.
To produce a high quality lens you need to spend a lot of money, they decided to save it by producing average quality lenses and then try to make the photos look better by software improvements. Which is quite futile.
Still the vast majority of consumers won't see the difference. Samsung managed to get decent quality on it's Android smartphones, and they didn't boast with special ExmoR lenses etc.
I really hope that new Sony flagship will get a new sensor and a xenon flash. |

@admad
You will be disappointed then.
Z3 and Z4 will feature 1/2.4" 20.7 MP camera sensor with same G Lens and LED flash, no Xenon.
Pixel size will thus again go back to 1.12um from 1.2um on Z1 and Z2.

I often ask myself why we don't have a Camera mod community as we did in the SE Java phone days, I remember how much improvement my SE K850i made after applying some heavily tweaked Camera Drivers.
I guess most devs are mainly focused on CPU/GPU results and overall phone UI performance rather than Camera Drivers.

The -Camdriver0.dat- on new devices are deeply hiden to final user (even developers) change the values that matter.
P.S.: I know that there's no camdriver0.dat in android folder's hierarchy... It's only to exemplify.

The Z2 Manual is online
http://www.xperiablog.net/201[....]A+XperiaBlog+%28Xperia+Blog%29
I'm reading it to see if there's something useful or interesting
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
then...
http://www.digitalversus.com/[....]ria-z2-tablet-p19609/test.html
One of the first review for the Tablet Z2, I'm linking it because it can give us information about the Z2 as well...
here's an interessting paragraph about the screen
"Sony used another 1920 x 1200-pixel IPS touchscreen, which gives the screen wide viewing angles. The image in general has improved, making this officially one of the very best tablet screens on the market! We measured a sky-high average contrast ratio of 1,158:1 with ultra-deep black and satisfactory brightness of up to 411 cd/m². The screen is easily visible outdoors, as long as you avoid direct sunlight, and indoors it's pure eye candy.
As far as colour fidelity is concerned, this isn't one of the top tablet displays on the market, but it's one of the better ones. For perfectly accurate colours it would need to have an average Delta E of 3 or below, and the Xperia Z2 Tablet's is 4.4. But greys and flesh tones in particular are some of the most faithful in the spectrum, which is good news for movie watching. The colour temperature is near-ideal at 6,698 K and it's consistent across the spectrum. The screen has a fairly standard ghosting time for IPS at 21 milliseconds, but it also has one of the best touch response times on the market: 87 ms. That's much faster than what we've measured on the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and nearly twice as responsive as the Galaxy Note 10.1. At 58 ms, the iPad Air is still the master when it comes to touch response.
As for overall legibility, the just-over-Full HD resolution makes everything from web pages and text to icons, apps and the OS itself highly detailed. It's a real pleasure."
I think it is quite the king of display
Can't wait to read a Z2 review
BTW they gave the tablet a perfect score!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As for the Photo Quality well I'll pass from a iPhone 3GS to a Z2... for me it will be like a revolution! also to MY EYES the Z2 shots seems better then the Z1, less sparkles and grain for sure...
I'll wait for some professional hands on! |

Well that would be really disappointing...
What new can they do in Z3, Z4 if not upgraded camera? A few changes in design? Slightly faster CPU? 0,2" bigger screen?
For me the news in camera department are most important when new phones are released. I really hope you are wrong |

Thsi thread is sleeping!
BTW
In china Sony will sell an "Xperia Z2 Deluxe Edition", in addition to the "normal" Z2 package, this Bundle will contain the SMT10 Stereo Microphone, the DK36 Magnetic Charging Cradle, the SCR10 Style CoverStand and the MDR-NC31EM Digital Noise Cancelling Headset.... The norma Z2 package will sell at 800$ whereas the Z2 Deluxe Edition will sell at 880$...
Give the fact that here in Italy the Z2 normal edition is sold at 699€ ( more or less 964$) I think that it is a GREAT DEAL
