btw, Sony should stop making PCs/laptops cause they really suck at the business imo; I don't think they have ever, ever made any money on it

VAIO has been profitable for Sony for the most part, only this year they have not made profits. 2010/2011 VAIO was one of the few businesses that brought in good profit for Sony group.
Also another update from Sony Earnings call conference - Sony was hesitant to share all its technologies with Sony Ericsson, but now that it's a 100% subsidiary Sony is now concentrating on development and bringing all its technologies in sensor/imaging/batteries/display to Sony smartphones.  |

VAIO is a category where Sony can still be very individual, they haven't had as many crazy niche devices recently (although the Tap 20 and the Duo 11 were big steps back towards this) but it would be a bit of a shame if Sony bowed out of it.
I think part of the contraction for the VAIO business this year is Windows 8, so hopefully the combaintion of that and some new devices will lead to some interesting results for Q3.
I'm typing this from my VAIO SB Series (which is my 2nd VAIO) so I guess you could say I'm a bit of a fan. Looking quite heavily at the Duo 11 but the mixture of high price and bad timing (my uni session just ended so don't really need it) is delaying my decision. |

Hm..CPS made 10bil in 2010 and loss 230bil ¥ in 2011.
I wonder how much VAIO contributed to both.
I brought it up cause obviously since years ago the PC business pretty much died as a money maker...Dell...HP...all bruised and hammered... getting out of PC bus. quick.
Honestly, I haven't seen anyone with a VAIO on campus in my recent university years. I even sold computers years ago and man were the VAIOs hard to sell for all the wrong reasons.
Whatever - Xperia is our new hope !

How the heck did Sony manage that number without any "huge" carrier deals ???
