Do I sense some competition? Similar form factor.
With the difference being Swivel V.S. Slider

I like this phone. When I first time heard about SE Walkman model before Cebit I imagine him like small swivel model or something like W600 :-) Also like the function like full video mode, hot USB (no drivers), game mode, etc. But also dont like the form of keypad, but is not so real problem becouse they dont see all the time :-)

The Nokia above looks like a beeper... Too plain looking...
SE's new W600 has a sporty cool look.

No it means GPRS class 10 and EDGE class 10.

It doesnt clearly say that on their site. When you look at the GC99; it specifically states Class 10 for EDGE. Not so for the W600. SE some clarity would be nice.
Americans, not sure if they dont know about the bells and whistle's, I think its another 2 reasons for not knowing about the features of higher end phones.
Marketing; most providers in the US market phones with celebrities - big issue because celebs just fashion the phone like their new jeans/hiphugga's. Stylish phones are a serious accessory - whom doesnt want a good looking phone. Oddly enough of most Americans polled, according to last months Wired Magazine; Hispanics and Blacks spend more on their bills & download more content to their phones; albeit mostly wallpapers/ringtones. But I see a trend for more features growing. Also most Americans listen to music the majority of the time in their cars, even if parked.
Corporate issues; Americans that do request high end features, other than the poweruser, must get a device that compromises between their needs, and what the corporation will accept. ie. Blackberries allow to save/view photos, etc. Not music playable, and no camera's allowed on the work campus; carrying two devices is so old.
Also, I think Nokia's 6270 is a better competitor for the W600;
EDGE & GPRS class 10, HotSwap MiniSD slot (capacities are already 1GB), 2Megapixel+FLash, metal accents, slider design, Stereo Speakers x2.
Like the headphones of the W600 appeals to me much more. Dont like how similar it is to the s600 though.

seeing this make me feel sad...why W600 is only meant for USA.
when can't SE try to make a slightly different S600 for other part of the world with 256MB memory...maybe W608???
seem quite unfair coz beside games....music is something everyone love |

Unfair? The rest of the world except NA gets the K750 and what ever godly phone SE releases next, plus most of their mid to low range phones.
You'll miss out on the W600 but by the time its released the W800 will be out and the K750 will be at a low price point.

@snake
ok you win hehehe.
well you can say I am selfish.
the best thing for SE is to make S600 and W600 have equal function.
I bet some NA user will also complain why the announcement never mentioned 3D game thru built in graphic controller.
I suspect tht's where W600 can have 256MB while S600 have a graphic controller. |

I any getting a bit peeved with this W blah. I was hoping Walkman meant a bit more than a rebranded an existing handset. Where's the originality? Its lettin the side down. Pull your finger out . . Quickly

It's called " The Marketability game ". SE targets a certain market based on studies.
When the Walkman was first introduced in the 80's, America went crazy with it. Hence why the W series will be marketed heavily in the U.S.
3G handsets are for markets like China and Europe.
EDGE for USA. and so on..................
All companies play to the masses game.... Play to the masses.
It's called Marketing.
Key word here ----- Profitability.

for every technology that arises it takes a while for it to stabilise....take the example of the company Go"l"...its a good comp company.. that at the first shot made the worlds fastest comp and the best ever monotios....
because they invested in one go and did not even looked at the marked .... the company closed down
its a right tatic sony is using....you may have great ideas...but try to implement it step by step.... so that you are never a lost soul at the end of the day.......
so let them first standardise walkman ... then ask for more.....
think of it...they relase high end walkman and no one buying...they will have a huge value and money loss .. which a company obviously do not want....

@Super G? I know is borrowing from its parent company, SONY by using the Walkman brand but it isn't really flexing even half the muscle it could do, dropping a Walkman Handset on us. I was hoping for a much more imaginatively designed device! Someone needs a good slap in the face. What a waste of an opportunity to make a real statement. I am expecting much more this year from regarding Walkman, and they're dummies if they dont take advantage of the great heritage its associated with. Get a Grip!

I'm glad they built the S710. I love it and will keep this unit for years.
There is no screen out there like that of the S700 and S710.
If you WAP like I do. It's something to appreciate.
Now building something like the S700 is special and beneficial.

Every single time release new handsets Nokia always try and take the shine off the event by releasing twice as much . . The pressure is too great. They need to Just Do It. What they waiting for? They literally can't afford to hang around. Give us what we expect from SONY. |
