Hi everyone, just a warning to all. I posted an item for sale and there was someone who sent me a message in YM saying that he/she will buy the phone through wired money transfer. I was about to send the phone and the address is in nigeria. I received a fake email from westernunion that there was already a money deposited to my account. The good thing is, i called western union to confirm this, and i was amazed that this was a fraud. D*mn frauders. He/she almost got me the email address and the letter head are almost the same. Be aware of a YM id named Denise Morgan, the real name is Iseala Moses from Nigeria. I already reported this to FBI anti fraud division. |

raijuta,
One way to learn how scammers work is to read some of the questions asked of Ebay sellers. You get the "end the auction early, my brother has a birthday soon, lost his phone, need it straight away, Nigeria, Romania, Western Union, Wired Money Transfer etc etc".
The signs are all there, it just takes a bit of practice to spot them. You were lucky!

They are the signs, just steer clear to be safe.
I recently had an offer to buy a phone I had for sale. He was from Jamaica & wanted to pay with Wester Union. I refused that method, he played innocent & said whats the problem?
I just said I don't deal through WU a.k.a. 'ScamCentral' & strangely I haven't heard from him since!
Maybe realised I'm no easy target

i have the same experience but i doubted. I received 2 PMs from 2 different person vyng for a trade. But i noticed that these 2 persons are the same, and it seems their identity have just been made. there were no details on their selves in Esato. His condition is i will send him my phone first and mark it as a gift to be free of custom charges. and he said he wil send his after receiving mine. But i doubted, its just that icant trust that easy, and im no easy prey. He said that he wil trade his P910i to my S700i because he dont like that phone (he decsribed it as ugly and chunky) then suddenly i saw again a post by him in the marketsection of esato asking someone selling his P910 that he is interested and asking for pictures. Now why????
Please i need advise on the matter.
PS. his total posts as of yesterday is less than 10, so i thought its a newly created identity of someone who had been here before |

@arvinsign - I'd steer clear if I was you, sounds a bit suspect to me. If in doubt - don't do it! Stick to people you can trust, or have some feedback in the 'trusted sellers' thread.
Still heard nothing from that muppet I sent that money to.

@arvinsign, first of all lets get thsi straight 2 diff users and you think they are both me. Happily list the name of the other user if you think its me..... cause i have no idea who your talking about as the supposed 2nd user.
And 2nd of all i also ask pictures of the phone as a common thing whether i have the phone or its a crap phone, because people who usaully trade high-end phones ask to see pictures of the phone. And someone will ask this question anyway. You'll see it asked by many people in the forums.
And 3rd you send as a gift because you would want to avoid custom charges in your country unless your happy in paying custom taxes then people wouldn't mind sending it to you marked as a product with the intended value of the item.
If you don't want to trade as i said no problems but don't try to make it a big fuss on the forums that i'm trying to ripp you, i even told you i would fax you my passport and phone you if you really don't trust me. |

if you are the seller, just receive the complete payment first before shipping your item. Dont accept credit card payments. Higher possibility of fraud.
If you are the buyer, you need to ensure that the seller really has the unit. Ask for pictures of the item then instruct him/her to put his/her complete name, username and date when the pictures were shot on the background near the items/unit. If the seller cant produce anything, most likely it's a fraud.
I already sold > 10 units of highend phones abroad thru ebay but didnt encouter any problem. I only received payment thru remittance (western union or moneyGram) or bank transfer. No credit card payments. Once payment is received, i will immediately ship the item thru DHL 2-3 days delivery service then email the tracking number to the buyer. Transaction is complete after 3-5 days only. |

The postal is doing all it can do to see if they can get thephones back to me as last time i check it, it still hadn't got to him. So we'll see if i lose my phones. I'll ask foryour assistance in getting his name and address.
thx for the suggestion. |

To be safe, don't deal with anyone you don't know. Hell, surely you have a local contact that can get you whatever you want. That's how I deal... I bought my phone off a reseller that was highly trustable. He's made hundreds of sales so far and everyone vouchers for him.
Second, people on esato with less than 20-30 posts, hard to trust. God knows where they've come from and if they just created their accounts to make a scam. I wouldn't go near them at all if they're trying to sell a phone, especially high end ones.
Third, I have no idea who to believe here. It's one person's word against the other and there's no way to find out the truth. So be very careful, here, ebay, wherever you choose to deal because people are out to get your $$$$ or phone. If you're on ebay, use the safe trade option. Almost all auction sites have safe trade options so you're both covered. And to avoid any parties getting fleeced.
