To me that reads as a general statement ie - you cant update firmware online (which was true until recently) and not a specific reply.

For those of you in the USA with K700's, I have a way for you to upgrade your phone to R2L001 and decustomize it, regardless of the branding (o2 / Vodafone / etc).

PM me for more info (ONLY if you are in the USA)...

Judging by the names of O2's Customer Service people listed above:

Mukarram Kanjikotwal, Fahim Shekhani, Sheetal Shyam, Nitin Kumar Gupta

It appears O2 are another company who may have outsourced their customer support to India? And I guess they don't have access to the information or people to provide a consistent and accurate answer.

They just don't seem to understand what's being asked...

You've got that right! I seriously doubt they will EVER support the K700 online update service.

Well I've got mine about a week now and straight in the first day after I bought it I did the software update and it is now updated to the latest version! I still don't get the problem here? Is it some of you that cannot update the device? I moved from Vodacrap to O2 to have the full functions of the phone.

Anyway I hope you sort your problems out soon.

The problem is that TRUE o2 branded phones are not supported by the SE online update service. Many of you say you have have updated your o2 phones online, but they are NOT branded. They are unlocked OEM phones with a couple of o2 wallpapers/themes copied to it.

o2 and SE need to get their *&#^% together. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think o2 will ever support it.

I've now manually unlocked, unbranded and flashed R2L to 13 o2 and Vodacrap K700's here in the USA, because we sure as hell can't take them back to the store!

The problem is that there are two types of K700's used on the O2 network.

(1) Those bought direct from O2 either in the High Street or Online, which have minimal O2 branding (an O2 icon on the desktop, undeletable O2 theme & startup/shudown animations)

(2) Those bought from an independent retailer such as Carphone Warehouse, The Link and Phones4u, which have no branding at all and are just K700's as SonyEricsson intended. Also, some people who bought a K700 very early direct from O2 may have an unbranded one before the branded ones came out.

If yours is (1) you can't do the firmware update, if its (2) then you can.

All K700i's sold by Carphone Warehouse are completely unbranded, as they have a license that enables them to sell unaltered phones. This is why some people on O2 have been able to use the service as they have (probably) bought their K700i from CPW, and it has the generic SE firmware installed on it.

Anyone (including me) that has bought the K700i from an O2 store or from their website will have O2 branding, which includes the O2 theme, the O2 startup and shutdown .gifs, and the O2 icon in the desktop menu. And it is these K700i's that have the Online Upgrade problem.

I wrote that about 10 posts ago. I wish people would actually read the thread before posting dumb questions.

I sent ANOTHER email to O2. Another guy with an asian name got back to me and said that they couldn't help me unless I provided them with my account details. This is the last straw. I'm going to cancel my account, and get a K700i from CPW.

A little tip: NEVER buy from O2 again.
