I have exactly the same problem, and am really angry, but the new firmware is coming very soon if it is not here already, which should satisfy us all!

~I accidentally just started another thread the same as this one~

Anyway I still like the K700i, but from changing from a T610 with practically no functions removed and the more menu on the idle screen, I really miss that, and the stupid mini menu, for phone book and orange world and messages, does anyone know how to get rid of that, or is that irremovable as well?!?!?!?

OK

You need to find the port that "serial port 1" uses from the BT dongle to the phone and then setup HyperTerm to use that port directly. Set it to something like 9600 baud.

If it works, sending "AT" should get back "OK"

If you get that far - try the following and save the output

at*emlr=? Should get back OK
at*ecmw=? Should get back something like *ECMW: (1-15) then ok

Did you follow that ok?

Just a thought!

Darn, just read your reply mwright.

I've just this minute sent the phine back to the supplier for a replacement. If the problem is still there on the new phone I'll have a go...actually even if it is fixed I'll still have a go!!

Anyone else willing to try this while I wait for the new phone?

Yep - it looks like someone (either SE or Orange) has blocked the AT commands as well!!

Is there anyone here with a non-orange K700 care to try it. It does no harm, the commands are only checking that the commands are supported. They work fine on T68 and T610

Just a thought!

Here's the reply from Orange to my complaint about the K700i

Thank you for your mail received 16th July regarding the Sony Ericsson K700i.

I was sorry to learn that you are unhappy with your new phone.

It would appear that O range have reduced some functionality of the phone and this has been escalated to technical support. We are investigating this to determined why this function was removed and if it will be restored in the future.

Although I can understand your frustration I am unable to reply to your mail at present. We are waiting for some kind of resolution from our technical team before we can advise further.

If you require further information please call the help desk on 07973 100 150 for pay monthly, or 07973 100 451 for pay as you go where a representative will be pleased to assist. Our operators are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

I trust the above information is of assistance.

Kind regards

Tracy

If this is passed to Technical Support does that mean they have realised they have messed up big time and they are relenting

hey. if you click here: http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=64133 you will find my rant thread. it is about all the bad things orange and vodafone and tmobile have done to phones such as the k700. it also includes my long and drawn out story of the orange branded k700 i got which had its shortcuts removed and the funny little standby icons added. please do check it out.

Hey guys, im new and have been reading the forum for a while! i got my orange k700i 2day, and have cancelled it and am returing it tommorow! not happy with the branding at all! no need for 2 camera buttons and the little icons on the desktop are annoying! also i noticed that when you switch the phone on, the "calls" and "more" options are there, but after a few seconds the orange os kicks in and they change! not happy at all!

Can I check something please - seems I have got a bit confused!!

Are you all saying that on the Orange K700 it is IMPOSSIBLE to change the shortcut(s) for the joystick, or that it is just difficult because the icon has been removed?

Cheers
