if your phone was originally branded and then unbranded by either your network or yourself, you will be unable to upgrade. The new sony ericsson update service checks the phones iemi and knows if it has been unbranded and then stops the upgrade.
to upgrade your phone you will need to run the recovery option to go back to your original branded firmware.

The problem people are having with reference to the 'please wait' and freezing is something that i had experienced earlier.
I found that installing java virtual machine allowed the process to continue.
I cant remember where i got it from but if you type virtual machine into a search engine, you should find it easilly.

Well... I also have the same problem that some of you have:
My CDA is: 162003/5 (R1A04), I have that latest version of PC-Suite and I've installed the latest JVM version form JAVA's site a few days ago.
I'm also getting the "Error in Communication..." msg. time after time of trying over, and always the same thing.
I bought my phone 4 months ago and I've never update (or succeed in updating) before I originaly bought my phones as "Handset Only/SIM-Free". This is kind of annoying situation, because I never updated my phone!
I there is someone how can help, Please!
Thanx a lot,

@markobb
What do you mean by unlocking? i am talking about unbranding i.e. the operator logos and stuff that make a mess of sony ericsson firmware.
unlocking the phone to any network will not unbrand it.
i think it is true that if your phone was unbranded e.g by using the unbrander .dll that alot of people used (or at least the latest version of it) you will not be able to upgrade to the latest SE generic firmware.
someone please correct me if iam talking crap.
Because the platform sends bogus messages while charging, that is why!!!..But why this change of heart?..We sense a charger connected, oops, we will not shut down after all!!!..*********************** UI BASIC, HOLD YOUR HORSES

I can confirm what you are saying. I used the unbranding s/w and was able to upgrade before but I have not been able to upgrade to this latest firmware version. The SE updater "knew" my phone was a network provided phone. |

if i am correct this my cda 162003/9 means that my p900 is unbranded/unlockt what ever |

Correct me if i'm wrong, but when it gives this "Error in Communication..." msg., it doesn't start to update yet - just to try to communicate with the device.
We haven't started to update really... So whats the connection to the FirmWare version itself?
