Yeah T-mobile in the U.S. is horrible about that. Finally they got the T68i a year or so after it was released. But sometimes they get stuff before everyone else. Not very likely anyway. Oh and their prices on phones is outragesous too. They would just hate to give something away like t-mobile in the uk. Plus you have to sign a contract regardless. |

I've mailed to se Turkey about this upgrade stuff (when it will be available, which cable model will be needed, etc.) and I will post the answers as soon as I get them. By the way, I am surprised by the stuff they know about the 600, 200, car-100 and even p900!!!

Firmware upgrades can't be done over Bluetooth afaik, because the Bluetooth connection is controlled by the firmware.
Actually, there is a way.. I have a Parrot bluetooth car kit. They let u upgrade the kit via BT (to keep u from hacving to remove the kit from the car everytime for an upgrade).. BUT... U need a kit which is already upgraded to the newer firmware version, then u bridge the two kits via bt thru a laptop..etc etc... Its really for service centers then home users... but.. it is possible to upgrade via bluetooth. |

It is actually possible another way as well.
You establish connection to the device over BlueTooth
The new firmware is saved in memory
Device restarts and upgrades firmware from memory.

Well, I work for a very well known computer company (rhymes with Snapple), and our products are generally available wordwide at intro. When they aren't, there's usually not more than a month delay from intro, and we generally say exactly what month it will be available. We do not intro effectively identical products to different regions in different quarters. You can pre-order our products immediately upon intro, and I don't think we've ever put a goof into a press-release as dumb as 'Starting today' when we really meant, starting in the next few months.
And as for the reseller situation, at the end of the day, it's SE's responsible to get their products out there and *sell them*. If the resellers aren't doing a good job, then either work with the resellers to fix the situation, or push direct sales/advertising more. The bottom line is almost everyone I show my P800 to thinks it's totally cool, yet none can easily purchase one. And this is a product that's over a year old. |

It would be possible to upgrade a firmware in exactly the way you described. For example Axis printservers allows you to ftp a new firmware via ethernet to the printserver. When the firmware is fully uploaded the printserver reflashes the firmware and restarts itself. This requires that there is enough room to temporarily store the flash, while it's being uploaded. |

Well after 3 phonecalls to SonyEricsson (I work for Orange, I demand answers) we finally discovered info.
Yes, it is true that software updates can be done, although how is still anyone's guess.
The news was premature, as the system isn't ready.
It is expected "before christmas".
It will be possible to update all phones from the T68m upwards as far as I'm aware.
Standard upgrades, say T610 R1L to R3C can be done, as well as the T68m to T68i upgrades.
They wouldn't confirm anything on a P800->P900 update. |

Well lets hope that is all true, that means that we will be able to upgrade our T610īs to the new firmware without getting the vodacrap back, if it comming from SE !

Dazultra2000, since you work for Orange did you ask if firmware specific to the various service providers will be available, or will it be SE's firmware for non-branded phones only? I'm with Orange and would want mine upgraded with their particular software version only.
More generally, I think this is great news. And now I'm glad I didn't throw my old serial link cable away when I upgraded to my T610 and Bluetooth. |

As I said, it required 3 phone calls to get any sense out of them, so I'm guessing either the call centre staff are running blind or there just isn't any info about it at the moment.
It all depends on the system I imagine. |

AFAIK it doesnīt work that way.. the upgrade looks for previous "fingerprint" and if itīs by Voda - Voda upgrade is what youīll get. In a sense itīs like Nvidias reference drivers, they find out which model gfx-card you have and apply necessary updates.
Letīs hope i am wrong though!
