The Gsurf plan does not exist anymore. If you use the internet apn, they charge you .25/kb. Im thinking of switching to Addict too. Been with Globe since 1996. Platinum Membership only gives you fast(most of the time) cs answering 188. You can rant all you want and they dont have a choice but to listen. hehehe The other time, complained about Esato and my free phone incident from last November that was never resolved. It was over an hour of complaining... even compared Globe to China for controlling the content we can access. If they are worried over obscene sites, they should come out with a cyber nanny type of service wherein concerned parents will enroll their sons' or daughters' number for controlled access. Now, they can charge for that. Its just that Im really scared to switch, kinalakihan ko na ang Globe. Plus when I attempted to inquire with addict, 8881111 ... first attempt took 3 mins of non stop ringing hangang nagsawa na ako. 2nd attempt probably 3-5 minutes of rings before a cs answered. Her voice was not the type I would want to speak with. Oh well, hope Globe opens up. Invest na lang on more bandwidth and let those who pay have all the access.

Two to three weeks ago, I posted a request for feedback from Smart subscribers regarding Smart's GPRS in the Phil P800 thread. I got positive ones and now I am a certified, bonafide ADDICT. I got the 1335 plan but since I already have a P800, I gave the SAP to my daughter. Switching from Globe's to Smart was as smooth as a baby's bottom. No hitches. Just used their Over-The-Air setup and added one for internet APN just like Globe's and I was back to business.

I would say from almost two weeks of use that Smart's GPRS is just a tad better than Globe's. What I like about the package is their allocation of consumable (the best so far). The Amazing phone that came with it can only be considered fantastic if you don't have a P800. It is slow (TI OMAP 120 Mhz). There are so many things in it that a P800 user won't like. The camera is so slow (ever used a very cheap Web cam?). And the unit hangs. The problem is, when it hangs, the only thing you can do to reset it is take the battery off and re-insert it (you can't even power off the thing). I was able to have somebody in Smart install a Windows XP like interface though. It is very cool. It even has a logo that says Windows SP (for SmartPhone 2002). And the GAMES, although the responses are slow, I believe that the Amazing phone has the best screen size and color for GAMES and since it has a joystick, it is much much better than the P800.
Again, I did not switch for the phone nor the hope of a better GPRS service or a better customer support. It is their package (the monthly consumable allocation) that really got me.

Anybody able to connect to Tipic server using Smart's GPRS (internet APN)? --Feedback please. I couldn't get mine to connect. I tried my desktop version (TipicIM) and I found no problem.

CS? Try calling Smart's hotline and you could wait for ages. I don't have a problem in this area though because I know somebody in their tech dept (lucky for me). This is one factor I considered before switching. Their CSRs are just as ignorant when it comes to tech aspects as Globe's are, but when you talk to them they will put you on hold while they consult their techies and they come back with an answer. I don't know if anybody experienced this with Globe.

I like the Smart Money, I could now load anybody's Smart pre-paid over the air. I could even make a business out of it. I could also pay all my bills including my Addict account through my phone.

I can also inquire over the air, how much i've spent from my allocation so far and be able to control my GPRS/MMS/SMS itch. It is built into their Addict menu.

I have no regrets switching to Smart. Take it from a Founding Member of Globe.

maybe you're right. i'm also considering switching...not until the free wap/grps lapses. it's the sole reason i'm staying with globe right now.

Just got my Globe Bill and am pissed that I need to pay data charges when I have a lot of unused free airtime and text.

Hey if I switch to Addict 1335 should I get a SPV phone (aint no way I'm calling it Amazing, hehe) or a Nokia 3650? I already have an open line P800. I was thinking it would be nice to have a Series 60 platform phone even if the round dial drives you nuts at first. The SPV is interesting but I wonder if Microsoft's Smartphone OS will survive.

@cyberray

choppy voice calls in some makati bldgs! my bldg on ayala ave., and in pacific plaza in the fort! doesn't manny p. live there? i would've thought that signal in pacific would be much better. good signal in basement parking, but choppy inside the apartments...

can i disable the sms message i get when i hit 50% of my credit limit? very irritating. set it for 75 or 80% nalang so there are less frequent intrusions. not a bad idea but we should be able to set the trigger level.

nobody EVER answers the addict hotline. always end up calling the smart gold csr.

why can't we change call waiting/divert settings thru our handsets, unlike in globe, and have to go thru smart csr's? then have to pay to have voice mail switched on again after turning it off??? very backward...

haven't seen any appealling VAS yet. very unlikely to purchase/download anything from Smart VAS. better off accessing other content on the net.

when, if ever, will there be inter-network mms connectivity?

pretty happy with provincial coverage, gprs/internet access and consumable plan tho...

that's it for now. thanks.

@baste

bad? i don't think so. no carrier is perfect, and if you're talking about gprs quality and network performance, i still think it's quite a bit better than my globe phone.

i still maintain both lines so i think i can be objective about it. my globe also gets choppy inside some buildings, and the gprs service could use a lot of improvement.

ultimately, constructive criticism helps everyone improve their service right?
