I know they won't go Android but if they did a camera like this on an Android phone Nokia would be selling like Samsung.
Phone?? What phone?? |

Is anyone going to buy a phone as thick as this though? Doubt it
IMO keeping phones thin whilst keeping high MP and decent EQ would be more practical.

I think thickness of a phone specifically around the cam part will never be a deal breaker if it produces awesomeness. |

The 808 is not meant to sell in dozen of millions!!
This device is just the bridge to introduce the new technology Nokia have been working on for the past five years!
And it's just the beginning.
This technology is eventually meant to live on Nokia's current mainstream smartphone line-up: Lumia.
It will be ported to Lumia at most by next MWC. They could manage it earlier for a Q4 release this year, along with Apollo. But I doubt it.
The big news here is PureView. Not the the Nokia 808.
And the big question right now is where PureView really sits and what impact could it have on the world of compact digital photography as a whole not just smartphones! And what's coming next.. How far could this get and in what form and functionality.
Meanwhile, we are all excited, as a start, to see how this 808 compare to current compact cameras!!

Here are some sample images of the 808:
Nokia 808 PureView Samples - a set on Flickr
Three shots at full 38MP resolutions with respective 100% crops..
And two shots using PureView at 5MP.. With a 100% crop of one of them.
Here are 100% crops of the first PureView image linked above, originally at 5MP:
Zero Noise levels! Perfect detail!!
This is truly a breakthrough!

@false_morel, yup, even on full size 38MP the noise level is lower than on Arc or Xperia S, I absolutely love Nokia camera, too bad the phone is bad :/ If it only had Android and decent display, ahhh, would be mine for sure |

Nokia has said that they promise to introduce this technology in future phones aswell. In other words Windows phones.

Ahh too bad they don't do Android. As long as Windows is so closed I wont buy anything from it, but this camera... I can't look at photos from other phones the same way anymore, just saw pics from Xperia S, UGLY compared to PureView -.- |

Oh my, my, oh my god!
Imagine, this tech in a proper, good looking windows phone...(even though i would prefer android, but that won't happen) it would sell like...

I's nice to have digital zoom almost as good as optical
Of course,at lower resolutions. |

Simply the best full-res image quality ever on a sub 4/3 sensor, I think it could outperform Nikon's V1/J1 as well (well that camera sucks anyway) but once ISO sensitivity starts increasing i think the camera will start suffering, as a 5/8mp camera I think it's unbeatable. is there a 12mp mode in its settings? it might put all future smartphone cameras at their knees if it does.

I'm not sure, but You can always take full res pic (38MP) and simply resize to 12 MP... |

Yes but it won't be as convenient as having a "12mp" label on the image size option
