I don't see Earth dying on 2012, when you said "world" i think you refer to the human race, Earth will only die for these scientifically based scenarios:

1.) An asteroid collision with size enough to crush the planet
2.) undiscovered near-earth Supernova bursting GRBs incinerating Earth's surface
3.) death of the Sun 5 billion years later (which will engulf the planet alongside mercury, venus and mars, perhaps jupiter too :-0), coincidentally scientists said Earth will is also subjected to die on the same timeline

I simply ignore those unscientific prophesies as they tend to be oversensational. on the religious side, only god knows when will be the end.

The mayan's also predicted your Option No-1 as the likely cause of the end of the world and its the most likely scenario according to scientists as well as you said but the scary thing is the mayan's predicted all of this 1000's of years before any kind of real science was around.

I think you are referring to the "nibiru" collision. Scientist has said that there were no large near earth asteroids directly approaching earth in the next few years or more (or maybe decades), if there is, they assure that the trajectory of these large chunks of rock won't be directly aimed on the planet. SETI even denies the existence of such large planetary objects like nibiru (which is very likely the V838 MON which is a Star and not a planet nor asteroid) hitting earth.

Also, add to that is the presence of Jupiter, the largest planet with far awesome gravitational pull than Earth and its orbit much closer to the asteroid belt. if there is a large chunk of asteroid exiting the belt, Jupiter would likely pull the asteroid towards it and hit them instead.

I do hope nobody starts thinking that what has happened in Japan is part of the end. Earthquakes have always happened and believe it or not the world would not function properly if we did not have earthquakes. It would be a cold and dead place.

Scientists are not always right in fact when it comes to Astronomy and Astrology and the Science of Space everything is a calculated guess rather than solid proof. No one can predict if an Astroid or Meteor was suddenly to appear from deep space straight for us.Scientists have been wrong about many things they can't even correctly predict when and where earthquakes will strike as with what's happened in Japan, so no one can say for sure.

Yes and when it happens if I am still here I hope its quick. As for earthquakes of course they predicted it they live in an earthquake zone in a very unstable subduction zone in the pacific ocean plus a few other tectonic plates underneath Japan. Lots of people knew it was going to happen again some day. Like in America someday again the san andreas fault will slip again its just a matter of time. Many hundreds of years ago when man built these places to live they never knew they were building on fault lines.

^^ Not true at all, the sun like all stars will die one day and whence that day arrives you can kiss goodbye to all mankind, the world ending next year however is highly improbable but not impossible.
