The relationship between my satio and I is only two days old but I feel the problems it has been giving me has been a 50 year marriage.
I'm holding through with it but there are many many inconveniences to this phone, I hope a firmware update will address at least 15% of my personal issues with this phone.
I love it though, it gets a lot of attention in the public and is great almost every way. |

My personal experience with 5800 (s60v5) about battery performance:
First week: Battery depleted every 15h
2nd week: Every 24h
After 1 month: Every 36h
After 2 months: Every 48h
After 3 months: Every 3 days!
With the Jet:
First week: Every 24h
Second week: Every 36h
3rd week: Every 48h
Usage medium!
SO in conclusion nobody can say if a battery is poor or not after only 3-4 days or even a full week of usage, new technology of batteries need at least 3-4 weeks and sometimes 3 months of battery cycles before reaching the real potential

I can agree that I have never used a Symbian phone before, so the S60 OS is really new and unfamiliar to me. But can you then, with your experience of the system, tell me how to solve case #4, the WiFi issue? @ Monaco - only 15% you're pretty easily satisfied huh !
@ vegetaleb - my Satio has had about 24hrs of battery life since day 1 so i hope things can only get better. Ive used mine extensively today and made a 40 minute call last night after charging it to last today. After making several calls today, around 25 texts, and constantly playing around with the phone my battery is only at 50%. Quite good IMHO.
@ altemyr - Sorry im too lazy these days to answer more than one question but i'll do my best with your problems:
1. Its you that is moving your thumb into the search box. Dont, just scroll down over the bottom picture to find the image you want. So this problem is mere human error. The alternative way is to simply go into the media browser, find the picture you want, press the more button, followed by contact. Then simply choose the contact to assign it to.
2. Im not sure what you mean. I assume that if you are looking for example to delete an app in the apps folder, you're looking for a folder called apps. Symbian does not work that way. Folders in memory have specific names which tell the OS where to find files. Not where in the menus it is.
3. True - a bit of an annoying thing about S60 i agree
4. Go to TOOLS / SETTINGS / CONNECTIVITY / DESTINATIONS / ACCESS POINT / NEW
In this menu you can enter all the details of the wifi access point you want to use manually.
5. RDS is missing from many S60 handsets. In fact (not being a S60 nerd) i dont know any that do have it.
6. If you mean the alphanumeric keypad, Where Abc is displayed tap it to see the following options: Predictive text (on/off), uppercase, lowercase, number mode. If you mean T9 when using numbers only.. no idea ive never known any phone have that function.
7. Of course you can. Simply go to MEDIA / MUSIC / TRACKS / and click the tick-in-a-box icon at the bottom of the screen. Then you'll notice the tracks become grey. Click on each one you want to add to the playlist, then click Add to Playlist.
Simple !
Some things might be different on your Satio due to difference in region firmware or operator branding. Also i apologise if i have not understood one of your points and explained something you already know. Just let me know. For anyone who has never had any smartphone before eventually you'll come to realise that if the option is not there or something seems not possible, usually theres a way around it.

Seems to me so far most issues from reading on here are minor problems which are just irritating a little. Does not sound like major issues are with this phone. Or am i wrong?

This is why I believe Symbian can save itself from death - but they have to stop bragging about what the next generation OS will do and concentrate on fixing S60v5 as it is TODAY.
All of the niggles are fairly simple to fix UI problems, based on what appears to be a number of different aspects of the phone (contacts, messaging, web browser etc) being developed for touch by different people and no consistency. Single tap, double tap, tick boxes that you'd press if you wanted to cancel, confusing settings menus and even confusing names and poor help texts.
SE has saved the day to a point, with a better contacts/bookmarks system and a better media player - but bugs can cause this to pause for no reason even if the phone isn't running anything in the background.
And battery life; well, it can be great one day and bad the next - yet my usage doesn't vary that much. Again, I put this down to more bugs (memory leaks or whatever). My theory for battery life increasing loads over a long time is that you use it less and probably don't play with it for the sake of it, but there's an element of truth that a Lithium battery improves after a certain number of charge cycles.
So, Symbian could have talked about a major revamp of the OS at the Symbian Exchange & Exposition event this week; but it seems it didn't. More talk about the future; What future? In 12 months, there will be nobody making Symbian devices, except possibly Nokia (and only on low-end stuff at best).
I'm sticking it out with the Satio in the vain hope a few firmware updates and some innovative third party apps step in and improve the whole experience; but I reckon a lot of people won't.

I have only had one phone so far with S60v5 touch and that was the Nokia 5530xm. It was a good phone with decent speed and with menus and browsing. But i hated the constant crashing even with things like texting it would crash. I am not the biggest Symbian fan i tried giving it another go when i got that Nokia phone but had enough. No smilies  on texting either lol. But so i read on here Sony Ericsson have made Symbian better

Satio is a great phone, the issues are horrible but a bunch of little issues that irritate me.
I can't remember much right now but as they happen again, I'll try to come back and add it to my list but so far:
Biggest one is the weakness to freezing, I've had to restart my Satio at least 6 times from freezing and un-ability to access features that I want to. I'm sorry but no matter what, a new electronic product in 2009 should not be freezing on the first day. That is just horrible neglect on SE's part, PERIOD. They shouldn't be releasing this phone with this type of issue. |

How long is the battery time if you use the phone for watching movies?
I travel with train quite a lot and I would like to watch movies etc for 3-4 hours without the phone dying on me.

One thing that freezes the media player is when you've downloaded locked DRM content (e.g. BBC iPlayer for UK users) and it hasn't been unlocked. When it tries to make a thumbnail, it doesn't skip the locked content; it crashes (freezes).
Delete the file in file manager and the problem goes away, but Joe Public aren't going to know that.

Well, last night I put on a 1.5 hour movie from the battery life being somewhere between 3/4-half battery. The battery died right before the movie ended, but I was doing it purposely to kill the battery so I can do a proper charge at night.
I think while the battery is still new and in training, you can get maybe 2-3 hours from a fully charged battery but once your battery has been properly trained for a while, you'll be getting way more than that out of your battery. These things are no joke but for the first few chargings you must let the battery die completely and charge the phone for 10-16 hours+.
As some people as been saying, as the age of their batteries have gotten older, the capacity has gotten greater. |

@ jmcomms - in a light hearted and none offensive way may i say you're the most miserable commentator when it comes to S60 ! 
You're like the grim reaper sharpening his blade to cut S60's life short.
I on the other hand am more optimistic. I love Symbian as an operating system, i have done since i bought my first S60 device back in 2003. I can understand people can get frustrated with it just like i get frustrated with other operating systems from other phone manufacturers. I just find that beyond every other competitor out there S60 has the most robust interface when its used on a phone. Ive used Windows mobile, ive used Palms, ive even tried Android a couple of times but each time i find myself being glad that i use S60.
Its very true that possibly Symbian arent moving with the times and are likely to fall behind with new features and tackling the demands that more recent OS phones are tackling now however they have been around a long time now. They certainly arent a stupid company. A bit like Nokia it just takes them time to get their arses into gear.
I do think however that Symbian need a completely new interface instead of adding touch support to an existing one, but i do think they've done a good job.
My final word is this. Ive had my Satio a week now and im enjoying it more every day i use it. Im finding new features i never used before or were not there on my Nokia n95 which was by far the most perfect phone i could have wished for this past 2 years.
