Okay, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and wait (what else can I do!) but I am not expecting the Satio to suddenly turn the world upside down and have everyone going wild. Who cares if the processor is being used in other devices? They've obviously got more optimised code - just look at how quick a Mac runs OS X with an Intel processor compared to a PC trying to run Vista.
I picked up on it because you said the processor is slow which it is not.
Anyway the Sat Nav software is this one:

Damn monthly subscription crap, just like Nokia. Give me CoPilot and pre-installed maps any day. |

i think satio is great.
with all the talk going on in the rumor thread. it will be a difficult decision come the fall. especially with all the "soon to come phones" that are being talked about in the rumor thread.
if i got Satio, it would be in black. i hope it is priced competitively...

The first time i saw idou (now Satio) i was awed by the camera and full touchscreen, but after May 28 announcement i changed my mind and fell in loved with aino instead! finally SE bade goodbye with their old style naming.

I can confirm that they said it will be S60 5th Edition, suggesting the first 'proper' Symbian Foundation OS won't be ready in time and isn't therefore going to be on this model.
I used the device quite a bit tonight and have to say that I am most disappointed. I saw the quirky UI on the Idou in Barcelona (basically, the Nokia 5800) and assumed it was just an early beta, but now that's all this is going to be. A large display wasted by an OS that has been patched up from a non-touchscreen UI, and a slow processor that means it's very laggy.
By comparison, the other two devices announced last night seem much more interesting.
Oh, SE, how could you make such a mistake after all the problems with UIQ!!
Symbian Foundation will have many releases in the next 2yrs.
The first will be called Symbian^2 which is based on a newer S60 5th Edition but its not the exact same like Nokia 5800/N97 or Samsung OmniaHD have; it'll have Feature Pack 1 (FP1) 5th Edition. Refined and slightly imrpoved performance and most importantly HUGE bug fixes.

According to the swedish version of the SE site it is actually Wayfinder. Which is also subscribed to on a monthly basis, anyway. |

good thing i already have a lifetime subscription to wayfinder
worst case though, there are already tons of other turn by turn nav solutions out there that are either FREE or available for a one time small fee that use quality maps. some even use google maps.

This phone looks ok but it looked nicer in Barcelona with the snazzy UI. That seems to have been stripped out and this is essentially another 5800. Yawnnnn

I'm guessing that SE wants the Satio/Idou out on time, so if the new OS isn't ready - it's far more sensible to go with the current 5th Edition. It also means they can actually have a decent range of apps on their soon-to-be-announced application store (next Tuesday I think the announcement is, in the US). I'm assured it WILL NOT miss the week 40 release date - so perhaps someone decided recently that they have to agree on a stable (relatively speaking) version. Nobody wants the disaster repeated where SE was left waiting months for UIQ 3.0 to become ready.
I think the Aino is the one for me anyway because I really don't like pure touchscreen devices (and I have an iPhone!). For now, I'm hoping the W995 will keep me amused, and that SE will let me swap my C905 for one. I've almost given up on these now after getting to my fourth handset in as many months.
No doubt the Satio will do well, but I think it will be the follow up models in 2010 that will be the ones to get excited about. Once Symbian Foundation gets the OS stable, there will be no limit to the number of devices that can (and will) use it. I see this as the most serious threat to Android, but not yet.

It's very desapointing that it runs S60. I hate the S60, so I can say only "Goodbue Idou, hello Aino".
Idou now is so laggy that it just can be true!
