I cant see the issue here neither. Th marks arnt caused by the keys on the screen. Its only greese off ur finger being transfered from the keys to ur screen while it is closed. Its not as if the two pieces of the phone are rubbing against each other causing scratching

I think it may happen if you have the handset in a tight pocket but im not sure, if the case then get a screen protector otherwise just leave it alone and clean it

The strange thing is that, the replacement handset hasn't got this issue. It doesn't leave any sort of markings.

Not yet is correct. I just brought mine and didnt see any keypad imprint of the screen but if you phone is under pressure the markings will show up on the screen definantly.

I ride a bike to college every day and usually put my wallet and w980 in the same pocket so the wallet acts as a sheild incase of a accident. (cant afford to damage the beautiful cover) But because of the wallet and phone being in the same pocket it put more pressure on the phone crating thoes markings. Luckly my markings wiped away easily

If I were you i'd buy a decent pouch and put the phone in your bag,
ive used Golla bags for my phones for over 2 years now and they give great protection

i'd never place my phone in my pocket as it will get marked especially if you forget to take your keys out first

btw it's a nice phone is it about the same size a Moto Razr?

V8 and V9 are wider and thinner compared to this phone, and also I think that the flipping mechanism in those phones are tad better than W980
