To be honest I've seen quite a lot who just hate the phone in general. Why? Maybe their K810i owners who are jealous that the K850i is the last made and the flag ship of the K series. It looks so pretty as well, just a perfect phone! |

that statement by SE is almost certainly pure rubbish. it reminds me of that time someone sent an email to nokia asking about the 6230i and they replied:
"We have no plans to release a model 6230i now or in the future". 2 months later, they released the 6230i
it must be noted that virtually all UK networks have stopped selling the k850i. i wonder why that is  . it's better to believe the evidence than some cover story from the manufacturer.
it won't be missed - it was a piece of overpriced crap anyway.

Most middle- and high-end phones are expensive at their release, that's why we buy them at least six months later, they're cheaper then and have less bugs .
This happens with all brands : Amnesia posted today in his topic about his Nokia N96 that he's lost £ 300 by buying his Nokia N96 early, as the price dropped that much within only three weeks in the same shop.
And his N96 is buggy too.
We've bought our K850i earlier this year at a very reasonable price and imo it was worth the money we paid for it. It works fine, no problems at all.
Both my husband and I prefer candy-bar phones anyway.

you're forgetting something. SEs remain overpriced for a long long time. they also remain buggy...for a long long time. most SEs never become bug free. have a look at these prices charged by my network that i recently did i screenshot of:
now have a look at the age and features of the sony ericssons and compare those with other brands. can you see the logic in a phone as old, crappy and unreliable as the w910, for example, requiring a payment of £29(actually, the prices changed shortly after this screenshot. the w910 is now £49) when you can get phones such as the moto E8 and the viewty for free?
you're also comparing dumbphones with smartphones. symbian phones are traditionally quite buggy because they are smartphone firmware, and hence, more complex, and hence, have a much greater tendency for bugs. the operations required for smartphones is also much more involved than dumbphones, further increasing the likelyhood of glitches. i don't see the awful situation regarding glitchiness/bugginess/tendency to freeze and reboot constantly with SE dumbphones reflected in any motorolas or samsungs, although some nokias seem to quite buggy (eg 6500 slide et al).

They don't have to be buggier, when bought after a few firmware-updates, we have a Nokia N95 and a SE P990i, both bought when they were, as you would call it, "old", they work as they should and don't reboot.
And both are in daily use, so apparently my husband and I know how to handle these phones, or we're simply lucky  .
Not using branded phones might help also, it's years ago, we've had our last branded phone. Now-a-days, when we get one with a contract, we sell it and buy a simfree one with generic software.
Branded phones usually are buggier and there's hardly ever a new firmware available.
But it's easier for us anyways, as we're not biased at all (you can see it in my sig, we have phones of many brands), we can pick from each brand the phones we like and we don't bother about those we don't like .

I m agree with adsada, some people here say k850 is crap in General witthow even tried one.
Maybe is making a new batch (or whatever is called) of news K850 with less bugs and better build quality

I'm going to approach from a different angle...and a different continent:
I bought the 850 April 1st direct from SE. Within the first week it suffered the BROD during a download, after numerous freezes, crashes, and reboots. After a trip to warranty service for a firmware update (R1F035), though Sofia can still be a real biatch at times, for the most part she has served me well. It would seem two things to keep in mind are to not put too much stress on her circuitry, and to maintain a free space buffer of 500mb on her m2 card (I'm running a 4g).
From a historical perspective, prior to 2006 I carried a t637 and never had an issue with the phone. In 2006 I carried a carrier-branded w600 that died, crashed, and/or suffered the WSOD no less than 8 times before I finally decided that enough was enough. There were major clashes between the firmware and the carrier-branding, making the potential of the w600 useless. In their infinite wisdom, after attempting to force a Samsung D807 down my throat, they caved and set me up with a w810. When I saw how they had crippled the phone's functionality and blocked the internal mail client with a branded "pay-per-use" J2ME application, I had that POS unloaded on eBay within the week and had purchased a k790 direct from SE (and just in time as it disappeared from SonyStyle within a month after I bought it); best phone I had ever used. So, when the 850 came out, I hesitated a bit while waiting for some of the bugs to be worked out, but eventually the need for speed took over. One thing is for certain: since going unlocked and unbranded I have never looked back...
Needless to say, no US carrier ever picked up the 850...and if memory serves me correctly, only SunComm briefly experimented with the 790. Rogers in Canada did pick up both at points, and also reported similar problems...
A closing note to those across the pond: It is an undeniable fact that us "high-end users" stateside are always perpetually the last to have the opportunity to grasp our hands on the latest and greatest, due to the ever-present threat of liability and litigation; the unfortunate side effect of being first in line is that you get the entire experience, both positive and negative...
I'll be awaiting the results of the xPERIA...
