If SE would only hire like 2 people to search the forums all day to look for user comments on their phones, like here on Esato, and if they would actually listen to us, SE would be unstoppable.... |

They don't need two people, I can do that on my own actually... |

@Dogmann
Good posting, with some very interesting thoughts there.
I agree that there have been way too many product quality issues with the phones that Sony Ericsson have released over the last 2-3 years.
As a P900 owner I felt signs were there with the P990 fiasco, releasing late, reduced specs (from the original announcement) and flaky software. A lot of people felt the phone may have been usable, if it had shipped with more memory, so why did they cut the memory down from 160Mb to 128Mb?
Is this when the bean counters took control?
Given that Engineers tend to want the best, you have to wonder who is driving the products and who is in charge of product quality at ?
Clearly they don't "eat their own dog food", ie: use their own devices as they'd see how unstable their phones have become?
It's interesting to read your comments about defective K850's being returned to and costing them money. Not only would that eat into any profit, but it also generates bad will among consumers who will not buy Sony Ericsson again.
A few years ago where I work, the company went through a phase of buying Sony Ericsson phones. When I saw a colleague using one I was very pleased, thinking here comes good quality, excellent phones.
I was surprised to hear the women calling the phone a piece of unreliable junk as my T68i and P900 had been solid and reliable phones.
Now the company is back with Nokia phones ... Looking back now, this starts to make more sense
The way out of this is to refocus the R&D, reduce the number of bland hand sets with virtually the same functionality, concentrate on fewer models with more leading edge features, get them to market on time and sell them at a reasonable price.
Oh and remember to look after your customers!
Things like:
o) The P900 was hardware capable of MS Duo Pro cards via a firmware update but forced users to buy the P910 for that functionality
o) The P990 was full of bugs - telling your customers to go buy the P1i which was virtually identical bar more memory, wasn't one of your finer moments
Treat your customers with more respect and they'll have more loyalty to you. Loyalty you're doing your best to kill off. |

@Dogman, lets hope,Plankgatan,Goldenface etc etc, don't see/read your comment, otherwise you'll be roasted in the fires of Gondor until nothing will be left of you . Of course you are right, but who cares? SE never does something wrong - so, why should the management change the 'status quo'. Mind you - for a change I agree with them . I wonder how long time will take Apple to surpass SE in total sales (I belive they already do that in profits)

Well... sad news... SE is going to Motorola's hole...
Se down 4 to 5 of company phone rank....
Love or hate me...  Nokia 5120 -> Nokia 6120 -> SE T200 -> Motorola V800 -> SE W800 (stay with my wife) - > SE K800 (stay with my mom) -> Nokia N82 Silver -> Nokia N82 Black Edition - Firmware v30.0.019 -> What is the next??. |

What I observed last week the service centre here has just acquired the other side of the floor in the building...apparently more and more pepole are taking to fix their SE mobiles. (and of course their repairs department is expanding no matter what) |

I can't help but notice, while SE talks about a 'general market slow-down',Samsung post a 50% profit growth in the second quarter ! And yes, cell phones are one driving factor (the other is their LCD branch). Now who is right SE or Samsung ?
Go samsung Go

What is a joke is your continuing attempts to slate SE.
You criticise others ability to read and understand financial figures and yet you selectively choose figures to back up your flawed argument.
You quoted SE's gross margin figures but not Nokia's
SE Gross margin 23.1%
Nokia Gross margin 14.7% as a group, 20.1% in Devices and Services.
Also SE's Average Selling Price is 116Euro, while
Nokia's Average Selling Price is 74Euro down 18%
...showing that of the two, SE is still the Premium brand. A premium brand is one that commands a higher price for its products than its competitors.
Despite the fact that ASP is down (showing a decrease in sales of mid and high priced models and an increase in cheaper models in emerging markets), you still maintain that Smart phones are a growing market. Even Nokia don't agree with you.
Perhaps you aren't so good at reading financial reports as you thought.
And how about learning to type english in a way that it can be understood clearly? A few full-stops and capital letters wouldn't go amiss.

@Car You are so wrong . . . And not only in just one place
@Dogman,do yourself a favour bud, don't even bother to answer to his post,he will go away all by himself eventually
Actually let me help the poor nerd by pointing one of his many wrong assumptions:
@Car, If someone charges you more for something which you can get it around the corner for half price,it does NOT necessarely mean is of better quality ! If you remember this out of all the posts in the forum, then you've learned something from esato Oh,you want proof? Go ask you dad - I answer questions every day (I have 3 kids), I wont be bothered answerend yours too
Pace and out of here -

So you think an SE phone is just an over-priced wanabe Nokia? Careful, you bias is showing
It is a well known marketing strategy by small companies competing with a large company which dominates a market that to make an impact, one must aim thier products at a higher market who will pay more. Its how BMW stays in car manufacturing despite the might of Toyota, Honda, GM and Ford. SE pride themselves on thier Point of Difference and I agree. I much prefer using a to a Nokia.

When I was reading the posts in this thread, I felt sad for a great company like SE. Then in a reflective mood, I asked myself who is buying SE cellphones at the moment. I began to take an interest in what make of cellphones my friends are using. Pls don't laugh. I discover that recent SE cellphone users are people like myself.
I am a babyboomer who went to college in the 70s. We didn't use computers on campus then. So I am not technologically savvy. My computer skills were basic. I got my assistant to do most of the work involving computers during my workdays. I have worked hard all my life & I expect to have material comfort now that I am in retirement. Sony was a huge brand when I was growing up & their audiovisual equipment had a reputation for durability(really big deal in the 60s & 70s in this part of the world).
I don't know whether it was nostalgia or the goodwill Sony has built up, I automatically wanted an SE phone when I needed a new cellphone after retirement. I paid a premium for my C905 though I seldom use the music player or camera. Only two conditions are consequential to me: I want to be seen using an SE phone (the same goes for my LV handbags) & I could make/receive calls where/when I need.
But one day we will be so old that we wouldn't be able to take care of ourselves. Then cellphones will be bought for us by our kids. I wonder if they will still get us SE phones! Now I become nostalgic again. Sony was a market leader in audiovisual equipment in the 70s & 80s & I simply love their products. |

"I want to be seen using an SE phone"
It seems a bit odd that you should have such a requirement at your age. most people grow out of that image consciousness in their teens. |
