The "jaw-bone" speach with internal microphone will not be on the first release of the Bluespoon.
It requires a lot of testing, and it has to be done in the "right way", or else you'll have some side-effects. I wont go into technical terms here. But it hasnt been done before, thats why it requires some testing.
It does work, I have tried it, and sound is extremely good, theres no noise at all, but You'll have to wait a while with this feature
The jawbone technology is better than ordinary microphone, no doubt about that, theres no external noise, sound is deeper, but still much clearer. The other person hear you very well, and you hear him/her very well too.
This was my experience with the prototype.
We have a "noise-room", where we can simulate e.g. a football-match.

The jaw-bone microphone will come, we just have to get it perfect,..then it will be released

The external microphone we're using for the production-model is extremely good as well, very expensive stuff. This is of course because of the size, but also because there arent that many manufacturers that makes these tiny things.

We were going to have a meeting in this week, but had to cancel,..we'll have a meeting on Bluespoon in next week. Here I should get some more info,..and we'll be discussing e.g. reselling, marketing and so on.

So I will write new info, as soon as I'm home again from the meeting.

Jan

We havent had the chance yet to try out the Motorola headset. I would believe that this headset is good. I think its being built together with GN Netcom(Jabra), they're very good at making headsets.

Hi Jan

That's a shame - it won't be quite such a cool product without this feature

So a couple of questions:

What will the initial product look like? I take it it will have a boom mic? Any pics?

Will the initial product be upgradeable to function with the jawbone mic when it's satisfactorily tested?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Got a bad feeling that people have looked at the wrong picture, when looking at Bluespoon.

If you go to http://www.Nextlink.to , and click the girl on the mainpage, you then get the real picture. The girl is wearing the productionmodel by the way.

This is the direct link :

http://www.nextlink.to/default.asp?pID=6&lang_id=uk

And heres the picture of the production-model, the one that goes on sale this year :

As You can see, it doesnt really have a big microphone. The microphone is the silver bottom part.

Cool. I assumed that was the jaw-mic as it's nowhere near the mouth, but I'm glad to hear it's the mouth one! Look forward to hearing more as it happens. I think I'm somewhere up there near the top of the pre-order list

One question - will this be soft-upgradeable to work with the jaw or will that be a new model (sorry to bring this up, I know everyone will expect a free upgrade )

lor > thank You

Adam > most of the bluetooth headsets can be upgraded, this one too.

The Jawbone-model is a different design, specially the back-piece which has the built in microphone. Thats quite different from this production-model.
The jawbone-model will come along later, and there might also be a version with double-microphone.
This would be very efficient if users are in very noisy areas,..e.g. a building-site.

But for "ordinary" users the model with external microphone, will be more than enough.
So people wont really need to spend the xtra money on the double-microphone version.

There are no release-dates/months on the double-microphone version or the jawbone-version yet.

Doing a lot of tests at the moment.

******************************

UPDATE ON BLUESPOON :

******************************

Meeting on monday at 10 am.

I just spoke to my CEO about Bluespoon. He will be going to a bluetooth-show in Japan on the 14.4.2002.

We (Nextlink) have all materials at home now, the covers are being produced right now.
Production is up and running smoothly.

The only thing we need now, is the bluetooth-module !!!!
They simply cannot deliever the new module.
Other companies are experiencing similar delays,..e.g. Nokia and Compaq.

We are all awaiting the bluetooth-module.
Some countries get these before others, I know that Compaq can only deliever few 3870 models,..the next shipment is in May

Nokia's headset wont be out untill May either, and we will be out with Bluespoon at approx. the same time. Hopefully before !

We were promised the modules in December 2001,..soooo we are a "bit upset" by now !!!!

We do have the "old module", but the standard on this simply isnt good enough.
An example is the Talk-time on this old one, Its is only 1HOUR !!
We would be "pissing" on people, if we gave them this one.
We want people to be able to speak up till 8 hours,..and that requires the new module.
The new module have some other advantages as well.

I believe that the delay on these bluetooth-modules, are caused by a lot of companies, that "suddenly" needs them.

It's really annoying,..we have all the other components, e.g. batteries, microphones, speakers,..and casings are being produced.
We are "on schedule", testing went great, production is up and running,...nothing has gone wrong,...untill now,..GGGRRRRR.
Of course it has to be the most important part in the construction that cant be delievered,..hehe,..arent we just lucky, NOT

As someone said earlier,..think it was DECOY, he said "you will always be delayed"
Yeahh Mate "unfortunately" You were right.

Well, I'm going to the meeting on monday. Hope I'll have some "positive" information to tell you guys and girls, when I get back.

Jan

Thats why we will be delayed

Hi Jan,

Thanks for the update - nice to know what's going on. It must be so frustrating (and costly) waiting for the bt modules to arrive. Hope it's soon. However I quite agree it's better to wait than to launch an inferior product. 1 hour talk time is hardly even usable!

Adam > Yeah its very frustrating, and yes, its costly as well.

Its even more frustrating, because everything else is going according to plan,..its up and working. And it actually looked like, that we could deliever on time.

And the only little "thing" that needs to arrive, is "of course" the most important thing of all, you cant get it anywhere else.

Dont know if I should laugh or cry.

Theres not one thing we can do about it.
We can just sit and wait,..thats very frustrating.

The worst thing is, that people really wants this headset so much,..lots of pre-orders, from private persons and companies.

The only good thing is, that most of the other headset-makers are releasing their headset in May/june as well.

jan,
do you mean that the Jawbone-model will be smaller than the current bluespoon production model, since the current model still has the silver microphone part???

MCastro > Hmm,..yeah, well the silver production-model is so small anyway.
Its not even the size of your ear

But when the jawbone-model goes into production, it will probably have a slightly different design, and will not have the microphone-part,..it will look like a spoon, without the handle
So it will be slightly shorter in lenght.
But we still dont know when this model will come.

The version with double-microphone (for noisy enviroments) will probably be out before the jawbone model.

Right now our focus is on the silver production-model.

I just got a new picture of the production-model, where its shown from a different angle.
I'll post the picture later
