K850i - Is it really that bad? |

Well the automatic lens cover is ingenius, with the N95 you have to manually do it and if you put it in your pocket sometimes it gets pushed open. The themes are gorgeous along with the way the keypad illuminates row by row when pressed. The lighting is beautiful it really is. Photo options are expansive, alot of options to play around with. Walkman 3.0 is very neat and slick along with the new media center which enables you to do so much now. Yes there is the occasional slow down in a menu but of course what do you expect with initial and branded firmware. Once the firmware updates start coming and the phone is de-branded it will truly be the all-in-one phone. Any more?

Are the current bugs with the phone worthy of an upgrade or would I be better off waiting a while?
I've used mine for 24 hours now, and i have to say it's great. After using an N73 for 12 months, its nice to have an SE again - its like I never got used to the nokia.
The 3d demo's that came pre-loaded on my VF handset are a hoot too, the rolercoaster one has me in stitches. They are all time or question limited demo's though, and a 90 second demo of some of them too is REALLY stingey!!
Yes the UI does bork sometimes, and its fraustrating. Hope it gets sorted.
in the daytime, the camera takes sweet photos - but it takes an age to save them.
at night, the camera sucks though. The flash is either way underpowered, or its not even close to being sync'd. I though at first it was my finger over the sensor, but if you do that, they come out black - all black. The flash seems to have some real problems. It's not specific to the handset either, the other k850i I have does exactly the same.
All in all, its a sweet phone that looks the nuts. Its a perfect size+weight and looks plush. I have no-need for inbuilt GPS, I let my car do that, and once they release the firmware it badly needs for the camera, I'll not look back.

Yeah, I think what's happening is the flash is being activated, going off and then taking the picture or picture first and then the flash. I don't think it happens with BestPic. It's probably a bug. |

Okay to answer my own question, overall I don't think the phone is too bad.
However, the camera is just shocking, photos come out way to dark and I don't personally see much improvement over the K800i if any at all.
The main reason I went for this phone was for the camera and I mainly use that on nights out, I really cant be putting up with dark photos or the hassle of holding the phone in exactly the correct way just to get a semi bright picture.
I shall be returning mine back to Vodafone within the next 2 weeks. |

The flash does indeed seem to fire early. First few time, I thought I was accidentally covering the flash and/or the sensor, but I've now seen that t DOES flash just before taking the photo.
This is another bug to add to an ever growing list!

Dude! don't be too hasty!!
SE phones with teething problems is the norm. Yes it's unacceptable, yes, you've probably paid a lot of money for it.. but if your willing to wait a month and risk it, they'll probably release a firmware that fixes it all these issues, then it'll be worth it.

Well actually I got it free on an upgrade, I'm gonna revert back to my K800i while I'm away for the weekend and then give it another go when I get back. |

Without a doubt. |

I wouldn't say without a doubt, but it looks likely. It's nothing that a firmware update can't lick though.
IMHO, people returning their handsets this early haven't ever owned an SE on release week. Obvious hardware faults and build issues, ok, but laggy UI and glitches... just wait!!
I'm not justifying the shabby firmware, but it's nothing we haven't seen before.

i think all these problems will be sorted with upcoming firmware updates..
even when i had bought k800 .. it had loads of problem .. even it went dead ..
but know with the kgc... firmware.. all is fine ..
k850 will come out of this .. very soon...
wait till next firmware update and then buy..
dont hurry now itself..
moreover they will sort out few bugs and hardware relted issues..
so give some time and buy... that will be wise

Yes - K850i supports EDGE.
No, it does not!
When K850i was announced then SE said that it comes with EDGE. Afterwhile that inforamtion disappeared from SE website. Now I asked and got answer from SE information service that K850i does not support EDGE.
