So is it not true then what Apple are saying that whenevery a new firmware update is released the phone will undo all the work done to unlock it? Im interested but dont want to be stuck to using the same firmwre version if updates are released. |

It does appear to be true what Apple have said... it would just have to be a wait and see what the iPhone hacking community come up with to allow the user to update beyond version 1.0.2
Although in the update to 1.1.1, it does not seem to have been totally value added to the iPhone... iTunes store download being the main addition

So in theory if Apple release 10 updates over the course of the year I would have to get it re-unlocked 10 times? That doesnt sound very practical.
Not being funny or anything but it looks like Apple have found a way to make people who want this on other networks pay big time for it if they arnt going to sign up for the contract.
I know for a fact that at the time of US release Apple mentioned that they will release firmware updates over the next 24 months. With so many things missing and apparantly going to be fixed through firmware updates would it really be worthwile getting one sim free to unlock if you will need to constantly be unlocking it every time a new update is out.
I dont know what the Apple community will come up with but either way its an expensive deal. |

apple dont sell them sim free, not even the hardware unlock has been proven to withstand the new firware.
Um also apple probally wont release a new firmware update every month, possibly every 6 is a more likely senario

basically the software unlock gives people the 'unkown sim' error. Even AT&T sims don't work after that.
But the Hardware unlock allows you to go back to your AT&T sim as if nothing happened. So you're safe.

Hi all,
Well you will just have t wait and see if I am right or not and can force Apple or 02 to have to unlock the iPhones they sell in the UK as once unlocked by them updating will no longer prove a problem. But as i have previously said if you want to be able to definitely unlock your iPhone and customize it you will need to buy 1.02 Firmware import and just not update.
Luke sorry for the off thread post but a free bump anyway for your what i would think will be your 1.02 iPhones.
Marc

good shout.
Not to worry man, the more info I have on it the better.
Um also worth noting that you can down downgrade the firmware, but the phoen cannot make calls, I assume that apple has changed the firmware on the chips or whatever

Hi Luke,
Yeah Apple really proved with the Touch they were about to change the game as they made some major changes to the encryption they were using and i believe a few other software changes. Which is what once the Dev teams were reporting they couldn't gain access any longer and where unable to do anything with the Touch was the writing on the wall as to what was coming for the iPhone.
They only thing i really don't get is everyone was warned not to update and the update really offered very little other than buying iTunes over WiFi yet so many with unlocked and customized iPhones still went ahead and updated. These are the same people that are now moaning about there messed up iPhones i mean really what did they expect just makes no sense to me at all.
