That's the other problem, faulty phones are nomally listed as 'no returns', and if I query anything the seller would play dumb. I'll just have to take the loss on the chin and carry on!

1) See whether you get a response from a service tool(XS++, SETool, DaVinci, etc...)......not the easiest things to kill, SEs.....
2) JUST main board/cam, with screen and battery attached, SHOULD POWER UP on their own!
Therefore:
1)+2) both good = great! Rebuildable phone!
1) only good = screen naff
2) only good = charger port naff
0 good = 5% both of the above, 95% phone naff
From personal experience......HTH......

Tried powering it up whilst partially disassembled, no response when plugged into a charger, it's not recognising my data cable (though I've not tried the service cable and Wotan/XS++ etc. yet) will try that later!
Cheers for the tips Aware, let's hope it's not dead, I suspect it had quite a heavy fall looking at it.

The N80s went for £136 in the end!
Tried this K800i with my service cable and no joy, not recognised at all. I'm now on the last throw of the dice, sprayed it with the miracle liquid that is WD-40!
If that doesn't work, the phone's being listed on Ebay, lets hope I get most of my money back.

Just found the probable culprit to the phone refusing to power up:
See the circular chip in the foreground? That has a crack the size of the San Andreas Fault in it! Bugger.
Phone is now on Ebay anyway, along with a faulty W810i that isn't part of the experiment if anyone's interested!

Rightly or wrongly I've included the screen in the sale, otherwise I could see the K800i going for next to nothing - but we'll find out in 3 days when the auctions up!

Im failry sure that that chip in the picture is fine, from experience ive seen others like it , and they are supposed to have a little copper showing. At least I think the do. As for k800i silver power buttons, you don't get them, the ones i have seen/used all had black ones...
Im gonna keep an eye on your k800i for now, will put a bid in of around £40 later on.
PS.
As for fixing water damaged phones goes here is my advice.
1) buy a can of pcb cleaner from maplins, this will get rid of any residue left from minor moisture damaged, its about £2.99 so well worth the number of phones you can repair with it.
2) spray the board with this stuff and leave it to sit overnight.
3) look for obvious areas of moisture damaged and spray these then scrub with a toothbrush (scrub in all directions, or circles) to try and get rid of all the built up nasty stuff.
4) Try and connect the software you pick (XS++ or Setool lite would be your best bet) - connect phone with as few hardware pieces as possible, ie just the board - no cam or keypad.
5)Connect the phone with and without a fully charged battery, press the power button to see if that triggers the detection.
6) Use identify in setool lite or flash (no files selected) - sometimes one of these works and the other wont since they do different things.
As for the use of wd40, im not sure it's the best substance to use, sure it stands for water displacement 40th attempt, but its not designed for PCBs at the end of the day. Try my methods with the wd40 and let us know the results.

Cheers Greg, much appreciated!
Though there is a large diagonal crack on that chip which isn't too obvious from the picture which doesn't look normal - if that isn't a problem then someone will get a bargain!

hmmm, oh well, maybe you are right, I just fixed a w880i using the techniques I listed, flashing and unlocking now, just need to ensure it is not blocked and the microphone work well.
It cost £42 for phone only, but is in great nick, so hopefully gonna make a decent profit on this bad boy.

That cracked chip would be very hard to replace, it would need I imagine some very presice and fine soldering to get the old one out, and to fit the new one. I'm not sure where you'd get a replacement chip anyway, unless it was out of another phone.

Im sure you could get the part sammy however would it work afterwards if you would replace it, good job your selling it, the person who buys it will have to get it repaired and I bet the board will have to be replaced anyway!
the person who had the phone originally could possibley get it done on the warranty though it's 1 month old right couldn't u use a PayPal reciept at CPW? you could try it sammy then you might get it done free
heres my N80 what used to be a Silver one
