n82

The second juicy bit of information from my friend Blue Blazer Regular today is of the Nokia N82. This is a candybar device to followup the N73. Similar to the N81, it has quad-band GSM and 2100 HSDPA, BT 2.0 (w/ A2DP), WiFi (b/g w/ uPnP), but also adds built-in GPS, TV-out, FM Radio, and a MicroSD slot. The kicker is VGA, 30 fps video recording and a 5MP shooter with Carl Zeiss lens and auto-focus, similar to the N95. However, the N82 packs an awesome XENON flash for ultra-brightness.

The N82 is designed for style, but packing the features to make it worth the $$. Still running S60v3 FP1, the N82 lengthens the life-span of the S60v3 FP1 platform, and should be available in Q4 2007. It is targeted towards "tech-stylists 20-35," with a female skew, but not enough to dissuade males of its power.

Full Specs:

Dimensions: 112 x 50.2 x 17.3 mm
Weight: 120 g [Target]
Memory: Up to 100 MB in-build, support for hot swappable MicroSD card (1GB in-box)
Talk time: GSM: 280min, WCDMA: 180min (Target)
Standby time: GSM: 270hrs WCDMA: 250hrs (Target)
Display Specification

Main Display: 2.4"QVGA 240x320, 16M colors
Camera Specifications

5MPix, Autofocus, up to 20 x digital zoom. Real Xenon flash. Integrated camera protection
Secondary camera: CIF
The N82 is DEFINITELY something to write home about. Basically all the features of the N95, plus a better flash, and *hopefully* better battery/memory management in roughly the same size as the N73. I love it. What about you? Think it'll be a hit? Skeptical of RAM and battery still?

n81

Yes, you read that correctly. Here, first on Symbian-Guru.com, compliments of my friend Blue Blazer Regular, is the full specs sheet and pic of the upcoming N81 8GB Slider. Set to be launched 4Q 2007 and running S60v3 FP1, the Nokia N81 is a slider-followup to the N91 8GB Music Edition. It is quad-band EDGE with 2100 HSDPA (yeah, you know what that means), WiFi (b/g w/ uPnP), BT 2.0 with A2DP, and a 3.5mm slot.

It also has "dedicated music and gaming keys," though I was unable to locate them in the photos. It also mentions a "Navi Wheel", but I'm unable to see that, as well.

More details and a size comparison after the break.

Other features are as follows:

Form factor: slide
Dimensions: 102 x 50 x 17.9 mm
Weight: ~ 140g
Memory: 8GB internal flash memory
Music Playback time: up to 12,5 hours
Gaming time: up to 3-4 hours
Talk time: up to 3-4 hours (3G)/3-4 hours(GSM)
Standby time: up to 15 days
Main Display: 2.4"QVGA 240x320, 16M colors
Main Camera: 2Mpix
Second Camera: CIF
It will be one of the N-gage launch devices, having dedicated gaming keys. I was unable to get any information regarding planned price or battery, unfortunately. Frankly, I'm somewhat underwhelmed by this one. I mean, from the specs, it's really little more than an N91 in a different form factor. What do you think? Do you like the key layout, with the music keys "embedded" in the d-pad sort-of? I'm personally a HUGE fan of the slider form factor, but still can't see myself picking this one up

So no GPS,TV-out,Radio and MicroSD on N81?Do I understand it correctly? Not that I'll die for them, but these days some MicroSD cards with huge capacity are around.Besides I see a memory card slot on N81's side?Or am I wrong?

they pointed on n81 as the next generation of n91 and n91i, non of them has got expandeable memory. i do get your point, either 8gb internal memory or less, but then memcard support. so it is at nokia...

btw i do hate to be limited, dont like that feeling, even at 8gb memory

Hi all

I don't know i think what the N81 packs in with 8gb of storage at only 140gms is pretty impressive. Now that i have got addicted to listening to Music via my smart phone this is certainly grabbing my attention plus the 240 x 320 16million colour screen and the fact it doesn't have GPS but does have dedicated Music keys and all the other things i would like WiFi, HSDPA, etc etc, this is one feature rich device and more than a match for any Walkman phone.

I am not usually a fan of sliders but i really do like the look of this one. I have read some where else that this is actually due Q3 which really would be great. The N82 camera oriented device covers people that want a camera smart phone extremely well also these are both true 2007/8 spec devices just can't wait for them to launch. I just wonder when we will see a true N93 replacement as the N93i really isn't it IMO.

Well well i have been a sony user for the past 6 years, and has been very impressed with it, BUT bow sony seems to be trialing behind, not bringing out the "better" phones. I am confused as to what my next phone will be. Nokia seems the way to go

i dont think any phone is experimental. its just an assumed theory to overshadow its abysmal sales. the phone was too expensive and that lead to its demise.
unless SE 'officially' call it an experimental phone, its not and i dont think they will because that would be dumb.

not meant for mass market and experimental are two different things.

I remember that it was Eldar from M-R who stated the fact that w900i was an 'experiment' as far as SE was concerned, and that was in the review that came before the phone made it to market. SE never meant for it to be a mass market product, and it was experimental as the phone made use of radical specifications at the time.

back to topic. the Nokia looks like a w880i crashed into a t650i and the remains got glued into the n73 . again, nothing original from Nokia, when would they stop being derivative? looking at the initial photos, I don't think the phone would be much practical as to fingerprints and smudge, and it doesn't look half tough to me as well. we'll see when the real deal comes out...
