thank you for telling me how i can try to understand the predicament of t68mc owners...i admit that the technical aspects of the upgrade process may be too complicated for my simple legal mind to comprehend.

but...judging from the posts i read from the thread "i flashed my t68 all by myself" it is possible for an ordinary person to buy a flash cable through the net, buy some sort of credit or license from one site which enables one to connect to the SE server or whatnot, download some files, and flash and upgrade his t68 firmware all by his lonesome. btw i also read how some people were able to convert the data cable readily available locally to a flash cable by altering some pins. i think someone here even builds and sells those flash cables locally.

someone in the philippines, i think, brags that he was able to upgrade his fw too using the procedure outlined by the guy from the united states. and, if the other posts here are true as well, someone in greenhills offers the service for PHP 1,000.

thanks for informing me that there may be some differences in the language of each particular phone by region and that each model may have a particular signature. but what has this got to do with "warranty" and "smuggling".

so, basically my assumptions are these:
1) upgrading the fw can be done even by an ordinary person with a flash cable and access to the net and to the so-called SE server.
2) the flash cable which SE service points use for t68ms can also be used to connect to t68mcs, and the pc which the SE service points use to connect to the t68ms can also be used to connect to t68mcs
3) if upgrading t68mcs can be done in HK, singapore, and taiwan then it can most certainly be done here, especially if it merely involves connecting to the SE server where all these important upgrade files are kept.

bottomline-- is it really about the "warranty"? is it technically and physically impossible to upgrade the t68mcs here in the philippines, that it has to be physically done in HK, taiwan and singapore? if that guy in the united states and in greenhills can do it from his home, why cant those expert techies in the SE service points do it?

sorry i still cant understand, but i think im getting somewhere.

@vwbeetle, i suggest you talk to sonyericsson philippines.

just to clarify: Ying is not selling cables for flashing. he is selling data cables.

but what has this got to do with "warranty" and "smuggling". - go figure.

btw, i already mentioned global policy before.

well, if people are truly interested in petitioning SE Philippines for "support" for the t68mc, as nookiehunter suggests, it would first be helpful to know why SE Philippines is doing it. we know its a policy probably handed down by SE itself. but those who petition must approach it from the reason behind it. if they say its because of the "warranty" and "smuggling" issue, then the arguments should keep that in focus. if they say its because of the technical difficulties, then that should be the focus. the problem is we are (at least i am) just speculating on the reason for the policy. though i feel that from the users standpoint there seems to be no cogent reason for the policy.

as i had speculated out loud, this policy may be fueled by plain and simple protectionism. it couldnt be the "smuggling" issue-- thats for the local government to look out for, but im sure it has something to do with the taxation angle. i suspect that they are just protecting the local t68i from the deluge of upgraded t68mcs being sold very cheap locally (cheap perhaps because they had to pay less tax wherever they bought it than here). think about it, if the t68mcs could be upgraded locally, even for a fee, would you still buy the t68i? palitan mo lang ng faceplate at keypad yun t68i na yun di ba? at the moment, the only reason why people arent snapping up those t68mcs is because of the total absence of fw upgrades.

if this is so, then the same purpose may be accomplished even without totally refusing to upgrade the fws of the phone. those who have already bought t68mcs may plead for SE to allow upgrades at a very steep price-- maybe a price which makes it cost even more than the local t68is. the problem is i think theyre still selling the t68is for P18,000 while the t68mcs are sold at P9,500.00. maybe SE can upgrade the fw for P10,000.00. at least pinapakita nila that they still care for the phone.

my two cents.

didnt know this will be complicated.

what type of warranty do we get if we buy a CRV, Lexus or any car outside philippines? 1,000 km? 2,000km? 5,000km? 10,000 km? yeah right!

besides... you already know the risk when you bought your unit in ghs or any unauthorized dealers. what's the fuss?

I dont think its complicated t68mc users just want to maximize the use of their phone without going to china hk etc to do it. And the \"warranty\" issue is beside the point cause they seem willing to pay for it.

well, nothing techi or legal to say hir, wala na rin akong maga2wa nabili ko na ung fne. Life's a wheel, d ko lang nga inaasahan na maiipit ako sa ilalim nung binili ko yung fne. If u ask me, ok na rin yung t68mc, kaso mas masaya sana ang buhay kung pwede pang ma-upgrade para ma-maximize ung use features. Anyway if ever some1 knows a place where we could upgrade our fne hir in the phil risk-free, please help us. Kung wala talaga, magha2nap na lang ako na uto-utong katulad ko na bebentahan. to vwbeetle, hats off, we couldn't express how we feel about t68mc the way u did. ok ka pare

Stay with ur r2e but if u want your phone to reboot and hang by itself. Go for r5d. Thats the reason why i shifted to this phone.
