For all P990i users now, what can you say about the phone? |

@spawn
not the RAM,what i'm talking about is the storage of the phone or the phone memory. For all users og p990i in the philippines try getting the configuration from the m600i because they have the same operating system. |

Like Jah i feel the same about my p990i although im not too impressed with the audio quality of the p990i, well to be exact its the overall volume of the media player that im not impressed with. But its not a big deal for me as i use my k800i as my media player along with my hbh ds970 bt headset and it works brilliantly well.
The RAM issue isnt much of a concern to me to be honest and i really cant understand why some people are making such a big fuss over it really. I mean who in their right/sane mind would run 10 or more apps???, frankly its laughable. I myself have no problems running the web browser, typing out an sms or email and then opening up the rss feed to check my rss feeds and ive yet to suffer a crash or hang. So personally i dont really see the RAM issue being such a problem as some here make it out to be. I think with the new firmware recently, multi tasking has become alot better in my opinion. Funny how people moan about the p990i but yet arent willing to get rid of it .
The p990i does have bugs, no doubt about it but so far ive had it for over a week and i have to say everytime i pick it up im constantly amazed by its capabilities...its an amazing unit for what it is. 3G web browsing is super fast as Jah earlier said...the only problem i seem to be having is trying to access secure pages, keeps coming up with an error saying network error...i dont know if its the built in browser or its my network thats causing the problem there. Will have to check on k800i to see if i get a network error.
Other than that i love it despite its little bugs and niggles...would i recommend this phone??..without a doubt yes. In fact ive recommended it to my boss whos quite impressed with the phone and is looking to get a few for the company.....just hoping that the blackberry connect will eb working soon as hes most interested in that.
Thats my views on the phone, until something better comes out i dont think ill be getting rid of this phone for a long time.

If I gave the phone to my users I am certain that within a day or so I would have a pile of so called "faulty" units on my desk. Most "non SE enthusiast users" will expect the phone to manage the memory for them,it simply would not enter their heads that they have to manage the processes themselves and nor should they given the cost of the phone. In the business I am in people like to have the latest high tech gadget to show off at the track and theyu all want it (me included) , but at the moment I am a long way from recomending this phone for purchase, so far I have been acused of knocking and exagerating the phones bugs! looks to me like I was sport on!

If you were talking about a phone like k750 or k800, i would agree...but the P990 requires some more expertise from the user...with more bugs or less bugs

i got it for 47,600 at virra mall. another shop was offering a p990i for 44,600 on a per order basis... but it does not include any warrantee for the phone.
my mms now works. my wifi connection works too... but i still can't browse the internet via gprs.
also, the golf game doesn't seem to load on my phone. i just deleted the game since i don't play the games on my phone that often.
i have yet to try the video call again... but so far, my p990i have not crashed since the last time.

as of the moment, we're lucky to have free video call services in the philippines. all video calls, as long you're calling someone from the same service provider, will be charged as a regular voice call.
that is why i have no qualms on using the video call function. hehehe. |

I think it's great. The RAM can be an issue, especially when browsing ordinary web pages with lots of images. Haven't been able to tell whether or not it's an issue when using other apps.
What's the greatest feature of the P990i is the ease of navigation. It's just a breeze to use! Way, way better than any other smartphone I've ever tried. Messaging is easier than taking a nap, and everything is logically placed. This was certainly not the case with the P910 and previous models. At least not in comparison.
Every feature but the golf game works well. Indeed, the phone reboots itself sporadically, but I'm dismissing that as a misfeature that'll be cured by a firmware upgrade (hopefully!).

that's exactly how i got the settings for my MMS. however, i still get errors from the GPRS/WAP settings that i got from the SE webpage.
i also use a MBP... and i use parallels instead of boot camp. i installed the SE softwares on windows, but the SE PC Suite for Smartphones cannot detect my p990i. good thing the bluetooth file transfer worked in OS X and i was able to transfer all my contacts to the phone.
i have yet to get the firmware update. did you notice any major improvement on your phone after you made the upgrade? |

Just wanted to ask other P990 owners something. The flip in my P990 doesn't seem to snap open like the flip in the P900/910. It opens much more gradually. However, it snaps shut a lot like the previous phones. Is the normail. just want to make sure the mechanism in my flip isn't defective. |

Hi Jah,
Does this mean that to use the BT headset to listen to the radio you MUST
connect the hard wired headset also (for FM reception)?

Discovered a wonderful trick that Masseur had described earlier.
Plugged-in the wired headset into the P990, switched on the FM Radio, linked my BT HBH-DS970 to the P990 to listen to the FM wireless and you can switch stations using the skip track switch on the DS970! Now this really is 'handy' little bounus

The phone's quite amazing. I just got mine yesterday and I love it. Got a bit of a scare yesterday when it suddenly died, but it seems like it needed a recharge since the red light came on already. And I do still have to upgrade the firmware to the latest R5A.
The ease of navigation is indeed great. I'm amazed at how simple it is to use UIQ3 (and how uncluttered it looks like compared to UIQ2). Everything so far is indicating that it's a great phone - I just hope that SE keeps on cranking out the firmware updates until it's really stable AND the memory usage is uber optimized. |

parallels desktop will not detect your phone thru UBS (and other phone models fo that matter) boot camp is the best way to do it for now.
i cant really comment on the improvement after the software update/upgrade since out of the box, i immediately fired up boot camp and updated my phone.
I used my k800i to transfer my contacts after. and synced (with boot camp) using SE PC Suite.
what errors do you get? is it the Homepage? i believe since the settings changed the Homepage link to, in my case, wap.smart.com.ph and i get that 'tag line errors' and there is no way i can change the homepage address. |
