I only know what i was told by the vodfone technican regarding the rim bb connect version. I was able to have a candid chat with him rather than getting turned away by the front line support, but he has yet to get back to me, so i cant confirm it one way or the other.
just phoned Rim now to find out what ver i should get and from where
(Research In Motion - +44 (0) 118 902 2520)
got an anwerphone message though, although the message promises a 4hr response.
is bb connect a priced product? or is it readily available to isp's for free (ones that offer blackberry that is).
i've seen so many people on forums using 3.37 sucsessfully it is really getting me down (im not a noob honest!).
so, from what spawn says, my 990i revision is old.... however, the sony ericsson update service thinks im on the latest ver. weird.
are there other sources for firmwares?

BB connect is open to whomever signs a contract to bear the license. At that point, it's up to the license holder (i.e. SE, Nokia, etc..) to integrate it with their system as they wish. The only standard protocols are for those exclusive BB handsets which RIM has a heavy hand on.
It sounds like your firmware is locked to your carrier. This has been an issue for all predecessors of the P990. Due to contractual reasons some carriers haven't authorized SE to allow updates on their phones via the online service. This tie is made with the CDA version of the phone found in the system information. I believe there is a firmware thread for P990 already there. But haven't checked to see if they discussed upgrade issues.
What is your CDA?

I think your right. I found that firmware forum, but there was no mention of getting around it.
I think I may have to get a sim-free unbranded phone as the only way around it.... unless vodafone have plans to upgrade their "branding" on a later revisoion of firmware
My email is getting caned for requests for that software by the way bigfeat. you might wanna put another link to your (excellent) guide/thread on this thread.
Cheers

Finally...a solution.
It was the vodafone p990 causing the problems all along.
If vodafone supply your p990, it cannot upgrade to the latest firmware...the sony ericsson update service does not allow it to go higher as the stupid branding wont work on a higher revision.
We purchased another sim-free unbranded p990, fully upgraded it using SEUS (sony ericson update service) and used bigfeats guide to set it up. It now works perfectly.
Vodafone have told me that they plan to release a new version of thier frmware branding on the 13th oct.... hopefully that version allows you to upgrade your p990 to the revision you need to run the software, as we now have 3 x p990's here that are useless until then.
Many thanks for your help chaps.

BBC 3.37 to BES
Phone R7A001
Org/CDA R3B01
BB is working just fine with one exception, I can't view any attachements.
Have three questions:
1 Can't save, view or otherwise get the attachements. Regardless size (11kb and up) nor type (pdf, jpg, doc, xls). Any ideas on what to do?
2 How to attach a signature to outgoing emails? My colleagues with "real" BB have a "sent with my..." signature to explain a not to elaborate response.
3 Is there anyway of assigning a category or other sortable identifier to emails sent with the BBC so that I can sort them in Outlook later?
Thanks,

@ajjkett
So you've gotten a simfree P990i with BBC 3.37 working on Vodafone now? |

you should be using BBC or Blackberry connect v3.37, which can be used for BES and BIS |

@ BigFeat and others
SUMMARY:
Can't generate a BlackBerry PIN on my retails p990i although I have purchased a blackberry subscription from my service provider. Also, how do I get the code to access the "Advanced" option from the BB connect main menu on my P990 ?
Here is the problem in more DETAIL:
I have a retail P990 on which I had installed BB Connect.
This worked fine on my BB subscription on service provider Airtel.
I also have a BB subscription on the Hutch network.
However, when using the phone with the Hutch SIM the BB Connect software on the phone will not generate a pin.
Using the "Register" and "Activate" options from the BB Connect menu does not help.
Hutch tech support says that this is because the PIN form my device is registered to Airtel in the BB license database the phone will not generate a PIN on Hutch.
I have since unsubscribed from Airtel, but BB Connect will still not generate a PIN on Hutch.
Hutch has confirmed that BB service is active for my phone but that it is not generating a PIN / "latching on" to the Hutch BB server - a fact which I already know.
Anysuggestions on what to do next ? I thought of accessing the "Advanced " menu option in the BB Connect main menu for tweaking but this requires a pass code. I have not been able to get this pass code from my service provider (Hutch) nor from SE and the BB Website doesn't offer support for non-RIM devices.
Does any one have any suggestions on how to get the BB PIN generated on my phone and on how to access the "Advanced" menu in BB Connect ?
I am using BB Connect v 3.45 with Phone firmware R9EC001

is there anyway you can view HTML formatted email's with the blackberry client?
It's a real pain as the built in email viewer on the P990 formats email perfectly but most of my blackberry received mail looks a real unreadable mess |
