http://spv.orange-today.co.uk/

is the protal for SPV users

dont tell me Orange havent got it right - they have everything in place then announce the handset... what more do you want... Not like 6+ months and still counting for the P800

also if you want to watch the Orange presentation - Im in the office now so havent seen it - got to http://www.firsttimetogether.com/

any more damning verdicts...

Im sorry to say this but this looks like its going to be a winner -

THERE ARE RUMOURS: suggesting unlimited GPRS access for a set fee of about £6 per month for an initial promo - if this is true then it will do very well!!

Well done Orange!!

you are right - there is an SPV bundle at £6 month which comes with the handset (along side a normal tariff) gives U GPRS & access to an online back-up site to transfer names/numbers etc

It beats the T-mobile branded handset anyday - better features actual MMS etc etc - it's way better

Unlimited GPRS? orangeman, please stop, or you're going to make me give up everything and move to England - and I hate the weather over there.

sendo z100 is better, imo. sendo also has a sd card... and it will not crash and boot for 30 seconds, do not confuse it with a desktop with thousands of files on your hdd, this is a phone for haven sakes.... it will load like any other phone and it will not crash everyday, may be once in a while... it is still by far superior to what p800 has to offer...

Yeah it's just a phone, and a desktop computer is just a computer and shouldn't need to be shutdown properly and shouldn't have boot times of >30s. All that is M$ fault. And I wouldn't be surprised if the same is true for their phones. AFAIK the Smartphone OS is based on PocketPC (Windows CE) which gives a hint of the OS.

I am happy that my post built such a confrontation.
I would like to say that P800 is OLD... And it is not even out. It is an old phone.
From a features point of view P800 is still ahead, but from a SW point of view? How many applications will be available for phones with a SDK that expensive? How many people have already experience in SD on Microsoft and might adapt their products to fit this new platform?

The only thing that I dislike in the Orange phone is the fact that it has no touch screen. But I bet that a Microsoft OS powered phone will come out sooner than P800.
I was extatic when I heard all the wonders promised by the P800. But time has passed and I got pi**d off with the continuos delays and also with their attitude towards customers.

I think I will just stick around and wait... Too bad MS is against ...
Anyway, Integrated camera never convinced me.. Think about it, those of you who have a t68m/i already had the possibility to have two cameras (MCA10 - MCA20). If it was integrated you would just have had one...

This phone looks interesting and promising.
To those who say that it has an ugly design I would like to ask what they think about the P800 design

And I would like to know from why they added a memory stick duo and didn't also replace the screen with a tft 64k one... It would have made sense, don't you think?
The screen on a PDA phone is very important, almost one of the most important things...

Anyway, these are my thoughts about it. Two more months and no one will buy a P800, there will simply be too many alternatives on the market.

You hit the nail right on the head pinolo77, I work in software development as a Java developer and am one of the biggest M$ haters in town, but I have to take my hat off to them... they got a product out the door, no slipping release dates, no messing their (potential) customers around. From here, without trying it, the SPV looks like a quality product.

The P800 will be the first phone to be obsolete on the day of release. 2 months ago I would have paid up to 1000Euro for a P800, now I'm looking at the Vodafone GX-10, Panasonic GD87 and might even swallow my pride and look at the SPV. When you add into the equation that the price estimates for the P800 put it way above all the competitors, are starting to look just a tiny a bit silly and just a tiny bit doomed.

When the world's biggest consumer electronics company and a (former ) market leader of the mobile phone market can't get a phone released within half a year of the original planned release date, they deserve to go out of business!

Roll on 2003, the P800 will be released - but will anyone notice by then?? They probably won't have any money to buy it after they've stocked up the latest goodies from Panasonic, Siemens, Orange, Vodaphone and Samsung.

I'll bet it was M$ who courted Orange and not the other way around, seem to be far too arrogant and just think we'll buy whatever they release when they see fit to thrust it upon us.

P800 - too little, too late.

OK guys back from the office - nice little debate going on here ...

Ive had a quick sniff at that demo and to be honest the phone is looking good - I think someone hit it right when it was said shame no touch screen.

On the demo it also says a NOV 11th release date - so its looking very promising!!

Im getting mine then...

As nice as this Orange smartphone appears, I think I’d still prefer the P800 for a few reasons. First, I’ve been extremely pleased with my t68i, so if the P800 is as functional and reliable as the t68i, then I think it will win my vote. Second, I want an integrated camera, not an attachment. Third, I actually like the P800’s design. Lastly, I like the fact that you can detach the P800’s keypad altogether.
