You reccon, they are for the normal person in the home, and for businessmen/women on the move, but for everyone else? I think not? Thats what I think anywya

Maybe it's just because I'm in 6th form and my mates want a laptop to take to school/for uni, but I don't think I've spoken to a single person that is saying they'll want a desktop
As battery tech and processing power becomes increasingly advanced, I just fail to see why people would bother with a desktop? It'll take a while no doubt, but there are already figures from manufactures quoting the increase in laptop sales 
As for saying you can understand why normal people in the home, and business people are buying laptops, isn't that most of the market gone? Most teens will just go for laptops for convenience, not many of them knowing the difference between different specs and so on! |

I haven't had a desktop since the days of the 386 pc!
I always use laptops and since Sony started doing Vaio I've always had the high end 12 or 13" models and they've served me very well.
Currently I'm using a Z21 series running windows 7 ultimate with 500gb hdd and 4gb ram, hdmi out etc, though that 18 months old now and so I'm looking for my next upgrade.
I'm now also hooked on the iPad though I'm looking forward to the Galaxy tab in November. If I don't switch to Android in my next phone I'll prob switch in the next tablet

M'yeah, I'll give you that, maybe in a few years, when they are cheap(er), and are as reliable as PC's, then maybe, but now they are generally a lot more expensive than a PC of the same specs (often double the price, that might sound stupid, but true). You can't do as much upgrade-wise, and even now batteries are still rather bad, I generally get 1-2 hours out of my Vaio.
But yes, convenience-wise, they are super, just a bit big for most bags, I know you can get a netbook (or even a bigger bag), but that defeats the idea, right? I know for a fact I'll be getting a high-end laptop when I start college, its almost a necessity, but I am just generally anti-laptop.

I hate laptops I do hope they do not take over in the future. Every laptop I have have had has endless problems over heating(even on a hard surface) poor battery life & just general longevity is not as good as desktops. Keep the laptops for the few who need them

Definitely agree with you, but everything is getting a lot better in most fronts
I think I'll be getting a Macbook Pro as my next computer, great battery life, build quality, and components, even if there is a large price premium for those features.

16 gig ram   My Acer Aspire pc has AMD Athlon II Quad Core processors,it had 3 gig of DDR3 Ram but I put in a further 2 gig & having 5 gig ram works fine & 2.93ghz. Also have 750 gig drive with 320 gig external drive(never fill all that),Windows 7 Home Premium,only 256mb graphics but I am not into gaming,full HD monitor 24 inch with HDMI output 9 USB ports(very handy). It's fast silent & reliable. Altogether spent over £700 also got external LG DVD drive which is much faster than internal one.

I have a laptop i got as a desktop replacement, i don't think laptop's will be replacing desktop's any time soon for a couple of reasons, 1st is cooling it's dreadful 2 tiny heatsinks and a tiny 3-4 inch fan cooling a powerful cpu & gpu togther just doesn't work and as cpu's and gpu's get more powerful and laptops smaller the problem gets worse, on the plus side laptop components can take more heat than desktops, 2nd is it's not so easy to upgrade some parts and you have to get extenal devices, for example for better cooling i have a usb powered fan stand thing rather than replacing the internal cooling and for sound rather than replacing the soundcard i have a external usb. On the plus side i can just pick it up and take it anywhere and use it anywhere on battery for a whole 2hours.

I love my Vaio to bits, especially the chicklet-style keyboard which feels divine - everyone comments on it. The Vaio is far, far more durable than the Compaq Presario I used to have which was looking very tatty after 3 yrs. The Vaio still looks like new after 20 months of abuse.

Actually, I've been a bit disappointed with HD to be honest. My Vaio LCD screen is just as good.

Well I have an AOC Full HD monitor & the quality is fantastic. Photos & internet just look stunning. Also depends if your pc is feeding HD to the monitor I think

I have a Samsung 2333SW, running it at 1920x1080 through DVI looks sweet to be honest, also got xBox 360, Freesat HD and a bluray player through it, very nice
