Plus it'll probably be expensive. If I wanted to watch telly on the move I'll buy one of those little pocket TVs, at least they'll be free to view!

Ya I also don't like this so called mobile TV. They should call Cell Internet TV.
It would be better if they do if like FM reciever such that the Cellphone have the TV reciever.

So does anyone know what the TV streaming runs on??
Data or something different? |

i would imagine it would function very similar to IP Tv, i know vodafone and a few other majors such as Cisco are looking into it at the moment. It's basically live Tv streaming, much like the BBC are currently doing with the england matches.
It's all done over IP address rather than just picking up a random signal, so there's a lot more control over which content you can and can't recieve.
I would think this is how digital will go in the next ten years. |

Nokia and are collaborating on the DVB-H standard, which uses part of the existing digital radio spectrum and so doesn't involve huge amounts of data transfer.
This makes sense as it means the programming you receive is not network dependent - i.e prone out outages or weak coverage. |

that's pretty cool then, from what i read a few months ago it was going to be ip based because of 3g/hspda relying heavily on an ip structure.
but dvb-t would actually be much better.
but i worry about the costings on that. wouldn't ip tv be cheaper in the hardware side of things? |

From a Nokia spokesman: -
"We are confident that DVB-H will be the technology that enables the best broadcast TV experience on mobile devices."
I guess we will have to wait and see what handsets emerge in the UK. Sharp and Samsung seem to be already out of the gates with their handsets in the far east. LG seem to be good at getting new tech to market too.
@quickhippo. Regarding the tv licence, I think this issue is still being kicked around. Now, tv operators might be bidding on mobile rights for broadcasting content.
