very nice fone indeed, and one of the best things about it, it takes mini sd which is cool, but what really worries me is the thickness of the phone.

The phone isnt that thick but its not gonna be razr thin because of the features with present technology offer.
If your ok with the thickness of the SE W900 then your sorted.
MiniSD is a big imporvement but it lags behind the SONY MSDuoPro ... by 2GB currently & by 4GB before years end. I never EVER thought that Sony's memory would ever equal in size & speed to the standard SD card (or any of its iterations - except for MicroSD/TransFlash). Sony has done an excellent job and Nokia has given us what we've been waiting for in the N80.
I like the style of the P990i now much better than the N80; both have incredible screens; but the pure functionality that I've seen in pre-production BETA devices liek what Bengalboy has, has made me consider the P990i much more than any other smarthone currently. |

The DuoPro is a very nice and very expensive way of adding extra memory. I will be more then happy with one gig on my cell. Be honest , how much crap can one have one a cell ? Video uses up lots of memory, but with 1 gig I can film for almost one hour even at N80's quality. Yes I listen now and then to MP3's , but to say that 1gig is not enough is like saying - I prefer to swim in the Pacific ocean because is bigger then the Atlantic ;-)

I really cant wait to trade in my SE k750i for this beaut!
but the battery life aint that good at all right?
hows the battery life like? can you go about a few days without charging with just normal daily usage ( 2hrs (not continuously) of talk time perday)
i'm highly aware that 3G phones tend to consume more battery power but... do u guys have any insider info if the battery life for this model (N80) be able to last at least a few days without the need of charging?
thks in advance for replying |

Buddy nobody knows as yet because the final cell has'nt been released. What we know for sure is that the batt. capacity is smaller than 'usual' which hints at a somewhat less then optimal 'on' time. Also we know for sure that the battery compartment is identical to the N70's in size. Now we also know that the voltage is identical and lastly we know that the N70 just manage to fit the almost twice as strong QD's battery which substantialy increases the 'on' time. You draw your own conclusion. Greetings from South Africa. Mario.

That is a russian site with all its 'ups and downs'. The pictures you saw there are taken with a N70. When confronted the russian 'author' eventually recognise his 'mistake' and said they will be replaced with the 'proper' ones as soon as he can get some. Nokia seem to do a good job in 'hiding' this cell from the public before the final release. And lastly if you want a good cell review keep clear of 'Mobile-Review'. Their forum (english) is nice thou rivaling Esato in some aspects. Greetings from South Africa. Mario.

By the comment you make I see you are new at the game. The pictures you see on any internet site anywhere are not necessarily taken at the resolution you see them there are lots of programs out there which edit/compress the picture to a desired size. |

good screen resolution it has. but it could be more all-around. f.e. n92 has tv feature, n90 has photo feature why dont nokia combine all these phones and make a "perfect" phone. i think SE's aim is to achieve this. they announce a new pxxx in 1 or 2 years' interval. nokia announces a new phone monthly. but p series are better than most of them in many ways. i think nokia has to do it by this way, make a phone with great cam, hard drive, good 3g features and it would be better. |

@mario2002, your comments in this thread are respected but I can see that IF you own/ed an S60 device you didnt use it to its full potential.
Think for a bit:
1) multiple pictures at 3MP, even in JPEG will add quit a few MB of memory taken up on expandable memory.
2) Reconfigured apps will be much larger than the average 30-64KB size and more along the lines of 1.2-1.5MB in size for things like browsers. And remember ppl will be embelishing on the WIFI abilities with apps like Cisco/Avaya VoIP transfering of the office phone line to the cellular. Many new opportunities for more powerful, larger apps. Its a new game here.
3) Video recording will take up its fair share of memory.
4) If you gonna be listening to MP3's then you'll want pure quality 128-194Kbps bit rates & dont forget thats over 4.2MB per MP3 track at those bit rates if the track is longer than 4:30 (min:seconds).
5) WiFi web browsing is sweet, so I'm sure you'll be saving all pages in all links for a giving site for viewing later IF you know your not gonna be in range of a WiFi or home computer for sometime - sorry unless you have cheap unlimited data option with your wirelesstelco (voda/o2/orange etc) then why spend the money???!!!
1GB I'm sorry just isnt enough. 2GB will suit most ppl fine but for a vacation in a beautiful country & your not taking you laptop nor have a server at home to upload your phones content to while on safari, then believe me you'll run out of space in a week! That is if your not a hermit.
Everyone's needs are different but I've been living with the 6620 for 8 months before I sold it now I'm on the z520i; VGA cams suck so when I get to 2MP SE phones I'm going to catch up on lost time!
cheers. |
