Hi more questions for you Jools, I downloaded Carbon Copy Cloner as you said, but im curious on the options I want to use, asuming I want to boot from this sector, I know I have to select make bootable, but there is also the option to create disc image, which of the 2 do I want as I have no idea if its possible to boot from a disc image or not?
Also all my removable storage has been acting funny recently on, if i delete something, it just deletes the directories making the data unacessable, but when I come to write it will not over write the data and just use free space resulting in alot of space that cannot be writen to, How Can I fix this?
Cheers Luke

If you want to make a complete clone of your hard disk onto another (separate) hard disk to boot from, you don't need to make a disk image. A disk image is useful if you want to make a clone of your hard disk for backup purposes, that you can restore from at a later date. Just backup the disk image to a DVD-R for instance, then CCC can clone it back to your HD later.
As far as your removable storage goes, I'd suggest backing up the data to another drive and reformatting the removable drive, that should sort things out. Try doing a "Repair Disk" in Disk Utility firsy though...

@Jools i was thinking about getting a .mac membership particularly for the email and iweb.
I know you can get the email on it's own for £7.50 a year but the iweb feature appeals as it would be easy to set up my own website etc etc.
There seem to be versions on ebay going for around £40 for an activation key? Just wondered if all of the same features are included like the iweb feature or whether it is only in the newer version.
You don't have one do you?
Thanks

yes basically on ebay people are selling them for around £40 in the usa so they just email you the activation without sending the retail box out, they are legit copies.
Only thing is they are version 3 and the newest version is 4 i just wanted to know if there is much difference?
Really want this for the iweb feature but think £70 is abit steep you think they would include it free for big orders.

yeh atleast for a year if you spend over 1g. With version 4 u prob just get more storage or something, but it may have some relation to the new ilife etc, also do you get iwork with your new mac?

As far as I know, once you have a .Mac activation key it will work with the latest .Mac features - there's no separate v3, v4 etc. As long as you've paid you get the current feature-set.
95% of iWeb also works without .Mac, however. You just publish your site to a folder on your HD and upload to any old webspace via FTP. I tried it and it works. Just a few .Mac only features are limited/disabled.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Think i will just purchase an email for £7.50 and then buy a domain and transfer everything over that way, should be simple enough.
Cheers

hmmm, jools probally knows, I did read from one place that they stopped developing wmp for mac, but it should still work as they have the thingy in the os. Whats the extension? also have you tried opening it with something like stuffit expander?
Also got a question. I have read you can change the mac os icons around, but how do you do this?
also I know I have posted this before, but I need to do it again as I still have problems. when I delete any data from any portable storage device - external hd, memory drives etc - the files are not deleted, you can't see the folders, but still the memory is used, I just checked on my back up hd and there is over 30gb of this mysterious space which i cannot wrte to unless i reformat my hd, which is really bad, as I need the info and have no where to put it. I tired formating the devices, but i still get the problem after ive written to them again.
also on the ideas of back up, I want to mirror my hd every week, but I tired using the program jools suggested, but am having alot of problems, is there a way to do it in disc utility?
cheers luke

yeh it does that, and no whay to go back, its because your ipod has 2 formats, mac and pc, when you swap it has to be reformated
