Like you I often push hardware to it's limits (mind you I haven't tried R1N yet) and because I'm sensitive to hardware I usually find a good balance between stock and tweaking. But sometimes I stuff up, and I certainly don't blame the Manufacturer, I just try and find a fix.

Mobile phone features and complexity are on a steep rise at the moment. The phones of today are basically mini-computers. Smartphones like XDAII can literally run Win95 via VM's. I'd love to do it .

Now would it be O2's fault if I couldn't get doom running on win95 on my XDA pocketpc?

speaking of which I've just got pdosbox running on the pocketpc. Dukenukem and wolfenstein here we go..

As annoying as most bugs are, i think that they are here to stay as there is no such thing as bug free software, We just have to learn to live with them unfortuntely. Besides not all bugs are bad bugs some are good. ;-)

dear users, somethings said in this thread are pure sh1t and other messages are wisely posted.
as someone with some economical knowledge something nobody has thought of till the moment: what about research and developement cost's? that's the most expensive part in the game. sure, SE, Nokia and all the others could test every, and I mean EVERY aspect of a phone in every possible combination before selling it (bluetooth to Win XP, 2000, Me, 98, MacOS 8, 9, 10, all the different Linux distros, Samsung, Nokia, older Ericssons, newer SE's, all PDA's in all possible firmware-combinations, ...) and finally sell it for about 1000 dollars or euros to cover the R&D-costs. and I don't talk of a P910 or whatever for 1000$, I talk about a simple phone like a T630, K500, low-end models. how much are you ready to pay for a K750 top-of-the-line phone? 3000$? I'm VERY (!!!) happy with my K750i I got for some 100 euros...

my 0.02$...

good point scaggo, we are the ones demanding ever cheaper prices through the law of supply and demand, so really they are just giving us what we ask for.

All said and done manufacturers make money from high volume sales, not high mark up. They don't actually make a lot of money per unit, it's just that they sell so many it's worthwhile in the long run.

Hell, SE have been running at a loss until recently. Their strategy has been to establish a market presence. Now that they have established themselves they can stretch out and put more money into development. Many companies actually fully subsidise the cost of their products for many years before they expect to get a return.

I think you miss out an important point. K750/W800 is using the same base OS/hardware as the K700. Yeah, it is understandable that bugs are everywhere when K700 came out because that was the first generation of new SE O/S. But after 3-4 generations, your point that it is too expensive to test etc etc is skating on thin ice. What happened to "learn from experience" or "reuse past knowledge".

I don't think it's true that bugs are everywhere in K750. Generally these handsets are very stable. Some have minor to moderate bugs and only a handful have severe issues, and probably the worst case, the R1N issues, have only affected those who updated without recommendation from SE and are in the minority. Most of those guys who did update are power users, not the average joe user. That doesn't excuse what happened, but this is only one really bad bug that affected only a small percentage of K750 users.

There are some other serious issues I accept, but there were new levels of hardware support, despite it's similarity to K700, that account for some of the worst bugs. Most firmware stability and connectivity issues can be fixed by returning to SE to get a stable firmware installed, for free.

There are as many good reports here at esato as bad, and bad incidents are wildy over-reported compared to good ones. Very few people jump on and say "Man, I've never had a crash on this phone" when their phone has never crashed, but if it crashed twice a month they moan on for thread upon thread.

Interesting observation by haribol. That puts the buck right on SE's table. And same applies to all manufacturers who present misleading information such as that to their customers.

The economics of manufacuring and pricing is well known to many people. Is that why we should expect less-than-satisfactory performance from the products we buy?

As it is, I am quite wary of updates and simply return the unit if I consider the bugs a major issue. Saves me the hassles. Its the hassles I have an issue with. I work hard to earn my money. I do not see why I should spend it on a product that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

End of the day most of us here prob want the coolest, or best phone on the market.
I know I do!

I mean when we see a release bout say the W900, or the P990 how many of you wish you could have the phone right now! We want things like yesterday, not in like 3/4 months time!

I think because of that manufactuers will release things when not 100% fault free, be they mobile phones (& the dodgy firmware) or Microsoft Software!!!

But then I think I would much rather have the W800i I have now with any bugs I might find, than say have a T68i that works perfectly jus cos SE have had 5 years to sort out ne bugs!

Jus my 2 cents!

It's people like us in this forum who are at least partially responsible for less-than-perfect phones hitting the market at ever shorter intervals. My wife won't change her mobile until it breaks down for whatever reason. Then she would go and pick a reasonably priced one that meets her needs. Gadget freaks are happy to shell out an inordinate amount of money for a phone every three to six months, and it's at the beginning of a model's life cycle when the manufacturer makes the most money. We complain about bugs, but we also complain when a long-awaited model is slow in coming, perhaps exactly because there are still problems to be sorted out. Same with software upgrades.

We love the excitement of awaiting a new phone; speculating and deliberating on its performance; and then .... Oh, I already mentioned the rest in my first post.

Yeah. And running the risk of going off-topic, let me get phylosophical for a moment: those of us bitching about minor - or be they major - software glitches in a mobile phone, should consider ourselves lucky that we can afford the luxury of such "worries". Take your country, for example, Aya (and I don't know whether you're a native or just resident, and it doesn't make too much difference either): with a life expectancy of 51 years, 60 percent of the population below the poverty line and unemployment around 30 percent, how many people are running around complaining about faults in an $300 mobile phone?

@Denes: Which leads us right back to my sentiments. If those who run a regular cycle as described in my 1st post were less financially capable, would it make sense to return a glitchy phone than run around for updates? Someone who had to count his naira and kobo in order to buy a phone would definitely be more particular about the phone's performance, and also would change phones less often, IMO.

This category definitely excludes the seventy-something thousand members of Esato
