As to battery life, I saw some comments its bad... I have nothing to complain about that!! It is good. Note that I intentionally switched off UMTS use to only use GSM.

Yeah, well if i tow my Park Avenue i will get much better mileage.. wouldnīt it be better if Nokia saw fit to give N90 a battery up to the task of running the phone the way it was intended for a decent time between charges?

@ThreeX
It seems you misinterpreted my post...
I intentionally switched off UMTS *because* I simply see no use for it, not because of battery life. Coverage is patchy, I couldnt care less about videotelephony and most importantly because there are serious issues in idle mode (common to all 3G phones) where you could have your phone camp on a 3G cell with absolutely no service available!! and no possibility to go back to GSM!!
GSM/EDGE provides me with what I want and need. |

@Super G
Fair enough mate, i was just still aggravated after having my 6680 away for 10 days because battery standby decreased from 3 days to less than 24 hours and the lady in the phone shop tipped me that switching off UMTS would get me better standby.
I STILL feel Nokia should realize that they made a battery hungry phone and thus fit a bigger capacity one.
I respect your reasons of course, but thatīs not an issue in my case. I have brilliant 3G coverage like 90% of the time
The phone just happens to be a battery guzzler apparently...
EDIT: After service/fw-flash it has gone back up to 3 (x24 hours) days, maybe i should try setting it to GSM only and see what difference it makes just for the hell of it.

threeX: the problem with 3G is especially in buildings where there is a poor coverage and the phone tends to boost the radio part to catch some 3G signal. this apply for every brand actually.
I achieved with GSM only mode one extra day which a lot in my books. and since I did not use 3G as my primary connection and EDGE & GPRS serves well for email and browsing with the built in browser I decided to run on the GSM mode only

For travellers the good choise is Nokia E70: quad-band GSM + UMTS! I guess, this is the first "five-band" mobile phone in the world. |

n91 has harddrive player even a drop from 6inches could break the hard drive why did they not put flash memory inside, running or jogging with the h/set can ruin the hard drive.

That might not be true, I don't have an IPod but they seem fairly popular, don't they have harddrives? |

I never dropped my iPod
The key in mobile hard drives is to have a sufficient buffer size so accesses to the hard drive are minimized.
If you happen to drop your hard drive while it is being accessed, there is some chance for corrupting it, but given the popularity of iPod for instance, I'm not worried |

The N70 is the biggest pile of rubbish i have used yet.
I think Nokia have made big mistake.
Keypad layout is cramped and awkward, resulting in errors in typing, location, size and feel of joystick type navigation is also flawed.
The software is slow, clumsy and poorly written. Example: Downloading a track and playing: Slow, stops responding. Playing any track seems to eat up alot (alot=contradiction in terms) of processing power.
The whole menu system, additonal function keys and option after option have taken away the easy, intuitive way that Nokia UI used to work. A much better idea was also the softkey option, with definable actions depending on the menu state/function.
Really, having used both the 6680 and the N70 I have to say I'm very dissapointed in them. No longer are Nokia in such a dominant position and having always purchased Nokia phones since Analogue, I shall now be shopping elsewhere, at least until Nokia stop smoking the funny stuff and get an early night.
Less is more. |
