Yes, somebody who knows what they're doing, please start the 2013 thread, so we can start checking out reasonable rumours for next years handsets.

Also, WTF ever happened to the Xperia SX. I really wanted that to get released internationally. Damn shame, because it was a gorgeous little powerhouse.

Caught something interesting on NeoGAF from the user zomgbbqftw who seems to have some good insights into Sonys business:

Wooooooo! The Xperia U, Sola and Go have begun to receive ICS as of today! All of Sony's 2011 and 2012 lineup (except the Play) are now running ICS, they are the only Android OEM that can say it. Onwards to Jelly Bean! I have been informed that the Jelly Bean roll out will be much faster than ICS and that a few devices are already running it flawlessly but Sony have been waiting until they finished the ICS roll out before starting Jelly Bean. They didn't want to push JB out to newer devices while making previous owners wait for ICS being stuck on GB.

All of Sony's 2012 range will be running JB before the end of November and hopefully the whole 2011 range by the end of January. From today, no Sony Mobile device will be released running an older version of Android and the Xperia V should get a day zero update for JB when it releases in November.

Finally, the original Tablet S was updated today, it received the new remote app, the new media apps, guest mode and a bunch of software fixes and optimisations. Jelly Bean is around a month or two away apparently for both the Xperia Tablet S and the vanilla Tablet S so they didn't bother with 4.0.4.

If true, then I'm sure there'll be a lot of happy Sony phone and tablet owners out there come November. I'm still waiting for the new update that just came out for the original Tablet S to come to Canada and this news about a Jellybean update makes me all giddy inside

I don't know if I should take the responsibility for the 2013 thread. Especially since a few members aren't too happy with me

Do it man if you're willing. You've been very helpful and I'd like to see that continue for the next thread.

BTW, do any of your sources back up the quote I posted above about Jellybean?

@ricky d,

I think we should skip to 2013 thread after the google event in october/november. Its in my opinion, the last chance for a 2012 sony nexus to pop up. Otherwise I think, there are no other rumored devices left unannounced for this year?

@vivftp,

january 2013 jellybean update for 2011 devices? That is too late! I have recommended so many people 2011 xperiaz and everyone is dissapointed over the updates. Sadly they were the first to get gb out. But after that, such late updates. I dont think many of them will wait until then, and if they dont, they will all have the bad taste of sony's ics. Which means, they are all lost customers for good. I hope they put out a proper update and be quicker than that.

@randomuser,

You have some pretty good info and leaks which is great for rumors thread. Eitherway do stick around

Well just for clarifications sake, how many other manufacturers are upgrading their 2011 lineup to Jellybean, and of those who are how many have already done it, or will do it before Sony?

Also on another topic, I am REALLY, REALLY hoping that Sony ports the IR transmitters and software from their tablets to their phones in 2013. It'd be another bonus for Sony phones over everyone else, and it's so damned useful!

Thanks for all the support guys Especially smclion102

I'd be willing to take responsibility for the 2013 thread if nobody else wants to do it.

@vivftp

Well it's pretty much close but don't count on entire 2012 range being updated to JB by November. More like December. The Xperia S of course will get it very soon. Soon after T/TX

@randomuser: you said no more Sony Android devices this year. Does it mean no Xperia Nexus or is the Nexus lineup delayed until 2013?

If there does exist a Xperia Nexus, I haven't got ANY info about it. I am inclined to say there doesn't exist any such phone.

@djin - count me in - no more Sony phone for me & never recommend Sony phone to friend again. But as long I have my current Xperia pro, I'll have to deal with that shit.

Anyway... So the 2011 Xperias are going to get JB? That sounds good at first sight, but - is it going to be as buggy and laggy as the ICS update or they're going to put more efforts into making it stable? Second - are we going to get the new or updated Walkman/Album/Movies/Calendar/Alarm/Messenger/Dialer/Phonebook/Notes/Timescape/Email/Calculator applications + widgets & updated menu layout & updated folder icons & status bar toggle switches OR Sony will go full retard trying to port the GB ones once again ( as they did in ICS )? Any information about this?

Currently, Sony has 3 different ICS 4.0.4 modifications:

UX/NXT/Holo mix UI + GB applications and widgets ( the worst one yet ) - 2011 Xperias, Neo L
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjeYPg9KQSM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6xrr9aenW8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSHA1zL_71E

UX/NXT/Holo mix UI + new applications and widgets - J, Tipo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-8-NNgMVPQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdXUEXjx5-A

NXT + new applications and widgets and menu layout and folder icons and status bar toggle switches and more ( not bad actually, visually not as good as 2011 UX UI, but still good - at least it's completed, unlike the previous two above ) - T, TX, V, S, P, U, Go, Acro S, Acro HD, Ion
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFqL5kYT8HM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O46q4uasIyc

Is this fragmentation going to remain with JB? Or they'll sort it out with providing on good JB firmware with the newest UI and apps for all phones? If they do, I might change my mind about Sony's customer support. But let's first see what are they gonna come out with.

The best mobile phone brand died with Sony Ericsson's death. Shame on you Sony for killing it! And, of course, for ruining the Xperia brand...
