hahaahaha no this my first Android phone

So, I've been using it for 2 days now and I'd like to share my impressions...
Design and Build Quality
I'm very pleased with the design. The pictures do it no justice as it is a gorgeous device! It feels great in my hand and it doesn't creak or squeak despite being all plastic. I have the white one and i like the glossy finish on the back. Yes, finger prints are a pain right now, but I should be getting my ClearCoat protective shield tomorrow and hopefully that'll help prevent the appearance of finger prints a bit.
Performance (Based on 14 firmware for a debranded Rogers x10a)
This is my first android phone so I'm still getting used to everything, but so far i love it. It is very fun to use! I suppose my only gripe would be that you actually HAVE TO get a task manager to kill applications. Would make more sense to me if the apps themselves gave options to quit and release memory instead of just continuing to run until they are killed by a task manager app. There seem to be tons of apps directed toward saving battery power, which isn't exactly a good thing.
As far as battery is concerned... Day 2 started around 8am and I did lots and lots of downloading apps from the market, so there was heavy 3G usage all day long. Battery was down to about 28% by around 5:30pm with bluetooth, gps and wifi off the entire day. I am also running juicedefender and advanced task killer. Hopefully it will improve as days go by.
Overall performance is very fast and snappy. Mediascape seems to be more useful than Timescape, though I can see how timescape could be useful. but personally, the dedicated messaging and 3rd party twitter app is much easier and powerful to use. I wish the phone did have more ram because at times i do notice a slight lag when there are a lot of apps running.
I really love this phone. I love the features that make it unique and look forward to the official update in the near future. I don't miss or even think of multi-touch at all when I use it, which goes to show you that the experience was well thought out. Now, if i can figure out how to sync my work email/calendar with the native email client and google calendar, i'll be all set.

I'll have to agree with magoo .... luvin' mine. I haven't even found
or had the need for a task killer !!!
Mine just runs away on it's own happily updating stuff and going "bing bong"
every now and then .....
VERY VERY VERY chuffed with it  - 'specially when you consider the previous
 handsets I've had (w910i, k850i, Satio .... I'll stop there !)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves their X10. I went to phones4u the other day to get a car charger for my X10. The woman in the store said she usually doesn't go for but after the sales person came in and demoed everyone in the store wants one. Apparently they're selling like hot cakes.
Is advanced task killer the task manager of choice then? I read moxier is a real battery killer and could do with chopping it out on a regular click. Why the hell wouldn't android build a task manager into the interface? What were they thinking?

As google believe that their OS can manage it well and due to that you do not need a task manager... Advice to put Moxier in the auto kill, so everytime you switch your screen off it kills it..

I was really interested in the x10 but the lack of multi touch and the fact that I played on my gf's HTC desire made me get the desire instead.... currently loving it and now with Google navigation built in for the UK its great and saved me a couple of times already... compared to my old Sony k800 this really is cool. |

I'm with Moogoo and glorfingal. Absolutely loving my X10, and it keeps getting better (or more specifically the battery does). I'm on like charge number 9 or 10, and yesterday I got 8 hours of non-stop music playing (via bTunes) with modest 3G usage, 30 minutes of WiFi WebSharing, a call, and 30 minutes of 'Dexter' in full-screen (854x480) res.
This morning the phone was unplugged for an hour before I attached it to my PC, and despite a quick look at the weather it never dropped from 100% battery. Can't complain about that!
I do wish that SE had allowed Moxier to be uninstalled, but Startup Auditor and Advanced Task Manager seem to be doing a good job of keeping it down.

Just to help out a few people who may not know. Ive owned several android devices and I just want people to know that dont get so caught up with trying to kill off every single apps, every second of the day. Dont get all OCD on it. The Android system free up space when its needed, and puts things in the background on idle when not in use (not using batt). There has been several topics about this issue and so far with me it holds true. Some of you are experiencing poor battery performance. Most issues are probably because of the battery not fully being calibrated along with features that use data the owner doesnt use. Dont get me wrong, I kill some task here and there. I have excellent battery life on my X10 as I have stated in previous post. I just want for those who dont understand or use to how Android works, dont get all caught up in killing apps all day, every sec of the day. Its not worth it. I hope this helps clears up some of the confusion.
"Android is different to most other phone operating systems. It's closer to Linux than any other type of operating system. Lots of services and applications constantly run in the background just like they do on Windows. However, and this is important, they do not have to use up a ton of resources. A service or app can be loaded, yet use almost no additional memory, and 0% CPU until it actually has to do something.
In general, killing off stuff is a waste of time. Android automatically asks apps to close that aren't needed when it needs more memory. Killing off some of the processes you are killing off also means it'll slow your phone down, as these processes only need to reload, and when you do need to use them it means the phone will be slower for the few seconds it takes to reload them."
Remeber: when it is in idle in the background it is NOT using battery or cpu.

I too have a white X10, I've had it for 3 days and I haven't used it yet as I was waiting for my screen protection.
Well... as you can imagine the suspense was killing me so I had a little play through both the protective screen cover with animation on it and the plastic sleeve.... responsiveness was still impressive lol
So anyway, i got my invisible shield through today, just installed it and so far it looks like it could be OK, we shall see tomorrow though. I'll post more detail in the relevant thread.

Now, I know you hate people who ask question without thoroughly reading threads first, but can anyone tell me the main benefit of flashing my X10 from an X10i to an X10a?
I think the scenario regarding branding is slightly different here in the UK, where would I find any 'branded' software features on the phone?
Oh and finally... In my box all I got was the 3-pin plug with usb adapter, crap headphones with bass reflex written on earpieces and a battery.
I didnt get a spare screen protector, or stand or bluetooth headset... oh an 8gb card was in the phone already.
I feel like I got a raw deal. |

Hey Oniiko, Welcome to Esato...just and FYI, the X10 already came pre-installed with a screen protector on it. Look closely in the corners. Now if you was planning on taking that off and applying your own disregard my notation. I just didnt want you to have two applied. All X10 came with the pre-installed SP. Good Luck with ur X10!!

I was aware of this pre-installed screen protector... and I have installed the InvisibleShield over it, hmmm we shall see how it turns out.
If I could purchase the official sony ET902 SP that many people had a spare of in the box I woulnt be more than happy to roll unprotected lol
I read that PhatomSkinz and BodyGuardz were the best protection for the iPhone, unfortunately they dont do a product for the X10... yet. |

It would make zero sense to flash from x10i to x10a, you could lose your 3g, nothing good. |

@Bialynia...(i could be wrong but...) I didnt think the flash had anything to do with the 3G fcc radio signal, thats all interally in the hardware and cannot be changed, besides there are plenty of people who are flashing from "X10a" to "X10i" without any problems. They are doing that so that they can be able to update their phones via SEUS to get the generic UK update to 16...
With that being said tho, Oniiko, at the moment i dont see a benefit from going from X10i to X10a. Unless there is some USA preinstalled software you wanted or something. |

I bought my phone from eBay, shipped to the USA, I bought it for $670.00, free shipping and handling, no taxes.
it came with all the necessities, wall charger+usb cable, leather pouch and a 8GB microSD (though I hope it came with a 16GB).
Currently, the same ebay store I bought it at have the xperia x10 listed for $640.00, I feel that if only I'd wait, I'll save $30, but I don't regret it really...

Are they really screen protector pre-installed or its some kind of scratch resistant coating ? Can anyone confirm this?? |
