I wonder if this might lead to the end of the 6 month flagship cycle and bring a new yearly flagship cycle.
What are your thoughts?
I like it.
Streamlining the portfolio, so that there aren't so many weird highly gimmicky models with random letters assigned to them, would be a good thing.
Something like Z, S and E, a la the Vaio's of old.
Z = Flagship - iPhone-esque price, undercut Apple cause brand isn't powerful enough
S = Mid-ranger - Moto X-esque pricing
E = Bottom feeder - Moto G/E pricing if possible, maybe midway between, with specs that are between as well.
If different sizes are needed, just have no suffix for the standard version, Ultra for the supersized version, and Compact for the smaller version. That, is it.
Right now its too goddamn confusing. Simplify so people know what's going on

That sounds like a really great plan.
Easy to understand and logical. |

@Tizzo
what i wrote 1-2 pages back, to elaborate:
z, high end - main, compact, ultra, tablet, mini tablet.
m (mid), lower mid range - very close to moto g pricing, relatively cheap.
e (economic), low end - cheap phone like xperia e1 but with better display and higher quality plastic.
if that is what sony representative says then maybe it's worth for them to take a risk and stop with these wrongfully expensive mid range phones and for this reason i would not try to rival upper mid range phones like moto x, etc.

Sony will be fine because they have PlayStation and as soon as a hot new game comes out, sales will go up. Based on Sony phones over the last few years they have improved software support, high end phones are very well designed and look great and they sell more phones than before. They need to work on their camera as picture quality on the Z1, Z2 should be better, sell them in the USA early because it's a BIG country and if you put one of them on a music video it'll generate loads of interest providing that they are available. If you think back a few years it was all doom and gloom doubled up with a mad worldwide recession but it takes time for cycles to move forward and Sony after the late Sony Ericsson era have done well. |

YES! This I like! If they release one mass market flagship its Mini and one phablet flagship a year and then a bunch of mid ends and low ends I'd be very happy indeed.
I liked the Xperia Z2 was extremely close to just getting it 2weeks ago but figured IFA isn't that far off and G3 is here, may as well wait for Note4, iP6 and whatever Sony brings then.
I wish they were bringing a Snapdragon 805 device, that would make my decision that much harder to make.

Read the specific threads, forget half of it and you'll have your choice.
R & T buy whatever suits them, they're not as brand biased as some think.

Ask Hobbs, he pretty much snapped me out of it, I was seriously considering walking in to Vodashop 2 Saturdays ago and walking out with a Z2
Don't be surprised, I've always said I'm open to other manufacturers if I'm not happy with my current choice of OEM, I was simply not going to get a GS5, I've even given the LG G3 a good look this past week, I am struggling hard to wait until IFA.
Hopefully uni assignments and my possible new job will help keep my head down until September.
You going Apple remains the biggest surprise around here .

Can't wait to see Suzuki committing seppuku. And while he's dying a painful death someone should walk up to him, look in his eyes and ask: how's that android thing doing for ya?
Q4 numbers will be iTrocious btw, I can sense it now

I see them going out of business very soon. Next quarter figures shouldn't be any different and Q4 will be worse with Z3 being a generation behind competition and the other Xperia models being no good.
Wouldn't be surprised if Sony quits the phone business as soon as next year.
We've actually come full circle actually.. I think Sony's market share now is the same or even lower than Sony Ericsson's when Sony acquired
