Atleast sony should look into its competitors for some creativity.
They shouldn't out flags that are too heavy and too thick and still the insides dont justify them.
If xz2 had 4000mah battery the added thickness and weight would have been a plus.
We shouldn't defend sony like blind fan boys.
And z4 is one of the most lightweight and compact phone in its time.
S6 had no ip68 rating and had a smaller battey and camera hump.
I will choose the z4 anyday |

They should bring back creative designs from the past like arc and those light bars from sp j v z2 etc xz2 with front speaker grills like z5 with ligh bars would look wonderful with music playback support etc |

The light bars could look pretty cool if made of glass, just space would be an issue... and would be quite brittle I guess. |

I think they could definitely incorporate light bars without losing any build quality. the glass used in the devices are essentially painted on the inside. they can just not paint a bar or frost it to allow LEDs to shine through. if they choose metal, they can create microscopic holes to allow light through, like on a battery status for aluminum laptops.
as for creativity, it would be nice to see a phone like no other. But the trend is everyone is starting to look pretty much the same these days. even google's pixel 3 is rumored to have a notch now... hideous.
I think Sony should leap frog the rest and work on a true full screen phone that is actually coming to market. Yes the vivo exists, but it's not coming to market any time soon. If sony can do a true full screen device with amazing specs and one of a kind features, they will recapture a lot of attention and in turn, market share.
sony likes to be the first at things... first in waterproofing, first in 4K, first in super slow mo, etc... they need to be the first to have a full screen phone with 4K display. it's the only feature right now that will get true attention from consumers. sony needs to look at the trends, and jump ahead of everyone else.. and then, if possible, take it to the next level and bring a trademark sony feature that makes it a sony. the dual cam module with the insane low light capability is a great start. no doubt, people care about that.

Yeah I think bezel size is important, too. If they can't reduce the size, they can't compete with others out there in sales, just because people want phones with high stbr these days. One thing they shouldn't do is adding a notch to their phones. The remaining brands who haven't added notch to their phones yet are Sony, Samsung, and HTC. Although it feels like that's going to change soon.
If only they're using that arc design that some of you have seen before.
Oh, I saw a post on Instagram's comments section, saying XZ2's sales are better than S9/S9+ on O2 UK, but I don't know whether it was right or not.

We cant consider comments from geeks.
It is another reality.
Most of ppl dont know difference between LCD and oled.
If ram ddr4 is better than ddr3, ufs is better than emmc.
Iphone X sells less than expected. Not on pair with 6+ or 7+ .
Apple still sells tons of iphone 6 in Asia.
S9 /S9+ wont reach S8/S8+ sales, which were lower than S7/S7e.
V30 and U11+ could not turn things around for their makers.
I doubt if XZ1 had similar design of Mate 10 it would sell like 8 million units.
Cant deny I like Mate 10 design.
Ppl just buy what they like, what they think it's good for them.
Regular costumer will keep eyes on screen size, cam resolution and storage.

Moe87 - i saw that concept before but I personally think it's kind of ugly. If I were sony, I would just put the finger print scanner on the back or go back to the side mounted. who cares if they can't enable it in the US.. it's not like they sell that many phones in the US anyway.
Pop up selfie would be nice, but only if they could figure out a way to make it pop out almost instantly. the vivo works nice, but it's too slow. it's a lot to engineer for that feature for sure. it wouldn't be easy by any means. I think sony could figure something out that would work and look great. The question is whether they have the money and resources to put into it to do so. they aren't the company they used to be.

I think there has to be a functional and achievable design. Razer phone has bezels to incorporate its mad hardware so in that context, its a great looking device. Sony needs the bezels but if that is the case, they need to give the impression that the bezels are small by perhaps have an edge to edge display as a start. If they were to curve out the top and bottom like the Xperia Vivaz that would make it appear smaller. Having a light bar could be a beautiful thing like the Xperia U but make it slim and elegant. I want to see the XZ3 look more like the XA2 Ultra, all the way round and with the FPS and camera placement.
There are some very good designers out there but as you saw with the Lenovo Z5 that the concept couldn't be achieved and they ended up with a notch so there is a practicality to the design too. If Sony don't want a notch then maximise the use of the bezels and stuff it with good tech. You could squeeze a second screen in like LG, make it only one line text thick so you get a nice notification element so you can keep the main screen off. I remember a beautiful music player concept where the top edge of the phone where we used to have the (headphone jack) had a second screen for music info. There are lots that can be done with a bit of vision and creativity.
If the XA3 inherits the motion eye camera, SD6XX chip and even some water resistance then I'll be all over that purely because of the looks. A part of me thinks that if the XZ3 were to have a 5.4 inch screen then they could have a small device regardless of bezels, make the Compact 4.8 or 4.6 for it to be genuinely small. I think they should move from glass to metal, I much prefer metal to glass. |

Lets suppose they decide to keep XA series.
XA3 with 5.2" 16:9 , SD640, 4GB, 64GB, IP68, 19MP/ 8 + 8 MP , 3300mAh , dual sim not hybrid and front speakers would be awesome.
It can still be plastic. Better than metal.
Design of XA2 is great.
No phone below $400 has it.
I would gladly buy one.

Don't ever bother to even care a bit about PhoneArena. They're nothing but a s***hole. U12 getting 7.5 and XZ2 getting 8, while S9/S9+ getting 9 is the biggest joke in the history of mobile reviews.

I hope they're keeping Loop Surface just for Mid-range phones, just to make their phone lineup less monotonous like 2014, 2015, 2016, and especially 2017 phones.
Oh, I think since Sony said XZ2 Compact will be the last compact flagship with high-end features from Sony, I think Sony will take Xiaomi's path, by putting SD710 inside XZ3 Compact/XZ4 Compact, like Mi 8 SE.
