its so annoying with the animations turning my sms into mms on voda, as I think the animations are really kewl but not when they charge 36p for it !
so can anyone confirm if the c905 does this on any other uk pay monthly tarrif because it was mentioned earlier that this is a generic problem (gutted if so!!) i'd well cancel my current vodafone deal if another provider had kept the animations on the c905 ems
apart from the above with animations, ---I wish they did what o2 does and charges 4 texts from ur free texts allowance for mms. For the last 2yrs since i swapped from o2 to voda ive hardly sent a picture msg or animation as 36p per go ontop of your monthly bill soon adds up

Anyone on Vodafone I would highly recommend debranding it like I did the moment I received my phone.
Costing £8.33 Davinciteam is the one I used.
Select this firmware:
C905 R1BA038 CID52 CUSTOMIZED UNITED KINGDOM WESTERN-EUROPE - EN EU CA NL FR GL DE PT ES TR PL
And everything is all sorted

I can confirm that this happens on generic firmware, it might be different on some other branded firmware, but i wouldn't count on it. If SE themselves have done this, its unlikely networks are going to change it, I'm sure they love this idea
@Bonovox
the phone is stable, apart from the tiny bugs, but they are bugs, and don't affect phone performance. Had i little hiccup today. Was taking a picture, and there is sometimes a bit of a pause between the photo being captured, and the 'saving' dialogue appearing (the picture is still taken correctly though) and at the same moment i did this, i got a delivery report for a text i had just sent. The phone just kept vibrating for about 5 seconds, then all was well. TBH I'm not surprised its doing this, its still first release, and its saving 8MP images whilst multitasking. Compared to the K850, this is an absolute godsend!!

@robbie1, yep very easy and it'll work for any firmware branded or not.
For a sample guide check this - its for the K850 but it'll show you how easy it is

Exactly. My C905 is running totally fine (Apart from more issues with GPS settings!). When I bought the K850i, it was clear within 48 hours there were lots of things wrong with it.
So I got Wayfiner running, but now I get a message saying the GPS can't recieve a signal. Any ideas?
is the gps reciver turned on in the menu? you can activate and inatctivate the gps recvier.
Yes it's turned on. It finds about three sats just outside the 'target' range, but then loses them, finds them , loses them, finds them...
Just can't get a signal. The status just always says searching and the signal strength in map mode is nil.

@Marty
I have noticed a somewhat similar behaviour. It certainly tends to find/lose satellites over and over. On one occasion I got a fix after some twenty seconds when viewing the 'status info', but just like you I have never seen Wayfinder reporting 'connected'.
I assume you try to connect when outdoors?

Yes. Always outdoors. Just doesn't seem capable of doing it.

Frustrating. I actually have some expectations regarding these navigation capabilities and the possibilities of using this unit as a navigation tool when needed.
You do know that it's actually possible to download maps to the phone in advance? Wayfinder's website is being very unclear about this, but it seems to be the case. You have to sign up for that though, trial subscription won't do. |

Downloading the maps is still no good if the phone can't figure out where I am on the map

Agreed, but this issue has to be resolved somehow.
To me it makes a significant difference if I can prepare a trip by getting the maps and reducing the data download to a minimum (especially if abroad since I got unlimited data at home). Wayfinder website is differing between 'WF online' and ' WF preloaded' where preloaded seems not to apply to java phones. After searching the web and being in contact with WF support it seems preloaded is supported for C905 after all. |
