Your idea is great but the truth is that even with the current front facing speakers they could shrink the bezels, everyone else has done it without compromising sound quality too much.
The way I see it is that Samsung and Apple will give their designers a big new box of Lego with 100 colourful and new pieces then ask them to make a house. Sony on the other hand give their designers 50 pieces so they do their best up to a point when they run out. Sony designers then look in the toy box and find old bits of Meccarno or Mega Blocks and stick that together with superglue.
Some of the whack companies are making beautiful phones with comparable specs. Had the Huawei P20, even with the notch it's much nicer than the XZ2 despite being so plain.
Despite being so negative, I will say that the XZ2 is an excellent device but too big for what it is. If they can't cut bezels then they should engineer something new to help and I don't mean dynamic vibration. Go for two small selfie sensors rather than one big, maybe have two speakers on the sides where the buttons are that are active only in landscape mode so the front faces can be smaller? I don't want to sound like a broken record but take the S9 in your hand and think of it being equal to the XZ2, then ask yourself why can't Sony achieve that thickness, bezel size and so on. |

Very "likely" the XZ2P still in the top even with IFA coming, like the XZP and XZ1 came right after... |

Should we expect a premium phablet at IFA? There were rumors about a 6.2" Sony device last year. Is it possible to see it this year? I really miss the Z Ultra. |

HTC 7 Surround, but make the phone slide to the bottom, instead of sliding left. Then put a good front camera and a primary speaker on the invisible part. They could tweak the screen-to-body ratio and that will make the phone look unique.
You mean like this?
Saw some more concepts like this before. Think it looks good, but still it would be thick if it doesn't compromise the front cam output quality.

@badassmam: exactly, that's why I thought that they dont shrink the bezels on XZ2 further because they just wanted to put Sony logo somewhere in the phone's front.
@spek: so, there will be one more flagship for IFA?
@ppl: that's what I was talking about. But shorter and has full speaker with one camera at the centre. They could tweak the design to be as comfortable as ambient flow, despite the humongous thickness.

I may be wrong but what he is saying is that whatever coming at IFA (XZ3 or XZ2s) is basically XZ2 with XZ2P dual cam. nothing more. |

He is saying even after new phones get announced at IFA XZ2P will most likely remain Sony's top phone just like XZP shadowed XZ1 in many ways. |

XZ2s or so whatever, just bring that re-design lens and AUBE from XZ2P
maybe adding up with OLED FHD+ for little bit more differentiate between two products.

As a huge Sony fan, I honestly can no longer defend them in their design choices after Asus announced their RoG phone. In terms of specs, design, and screen to body ratio (visually assessing it), they absolutely demolish the XZ2 and XZ2P! Maybe not screen resolution and camera of the XZ2P. Overall it's a much better phone, albeit the visual design maybe up to an individual's taste. Sony definitely cannot justify that 11mm hump of theirs with a significantly smaller battery, the Asus RoG has 4000mah in 8.6mm thickness! Could be wrong here, visually looking at the RoG phone, it has much smaller bezel too! Ontop of everything, a headphone jack!! With a total of 3 USB C ports! No excuse of saying it saves space. If I didn't already have a P2XL and need a phone, that would be my choice of purchase. |

Except dual cam, will the XZ2s/XZ3 have something else different from XZ2? |

Is it even a given that the XZ2s/3 will have the dual cam? Will they be able to fit it in a body of same dimensions as the XZ2?
Also does anyone know if there is any upgrade to super slow-mo in the XZ2 Premium (i.e. length of recording time allowed), or is it the same as XZ2? |

Well, imo bezels are not really the problem. Weight and thickness are far more important than bezels. Material also should come before bezels. But it's just me. Better front cam is worth the bezels. I believe they can do better, but seems like they don't want to waste any concept they created. We literally have seen all of the leaked designs except for 2. Y design and the all glass transparent one.
They should get rid of those and go fresh already. |

Bezels are important because they dictate 1: how the front of the phone looks, and 2: the screen-to-body ration and hence the overall size of the phone. The front design sells phones, as the average consumer will see it in a shop and base their decision on how it looks, and the s-t-b-ratio, well I'm sure most people would pick a 6-inch display in a smaller body over a 5.5-inch display in a larger one.
For me XZ2 bezels are fine, but XZ2 Premium bezels are too big, one of the main reasons why the phone itself is so massive (although for some people even XZ2 is too big probably). |

Spek told us once that when panel is curved it has to be larger than flat panel to cover the entire back.
With XZP Sony started to use graphite layer instead of heat pipes.
That video on youtube channel PHONE BATTLES tells all. After 3h of 4K there was no overheating pop up warning.
Sony phones have always been heavier. S6 Edge and Z3+ have almost same size.
Both are dual glass, but s6e is too light, like plastic phones.
Even the Gran Prime feels much heavier.
