I don't understand your reaction. This time I said nothing against Sony, I expressed no personal opinion, I just made a comparison and made a conclusion ( after I wrote the official specifications, no personal atitude here ) that your wishes for 2013 are already fulfilled. Is it a problem for you? Or you can't deny facts and that makes you mad?
The best mobile phone brand died with Sony Ericsson's death. Shame on you Sony for killing it! And, of course, for ruining the Xperia brand...

First decide who are you replying to - me or moogoo ?

If you posted that for me, well I didn't even reply to you in the first place.

I'm not a fan of mediar either, but I think things have gone too far... It seems like some people only see his name and they already start to bash without even reading his postings.

I hardly ever share the opinion of mediar and yes, he is provocative and can be counterproductive, but I cannot stand these manners against him, when he has not done anything of that and posted correct. Me(diar) Against the World. No shots fired at randomuser or moogoo because of quoting their posts, but this was a good example. Still, I got mad love (no homo) and respect for the contribution. It will not happen overnight, but let’s just bury the hatchet. It is a win-win situation for everyone, for this thread and for this forum. I have finished. Peace out.

Don't worry, I'm not going to express my opinion, just going to write the just announced LG Optimus G specifications, according to GSM Arena:

-Aluminium Body. Dark silver, with chrome-like buttons. yes
-S4 Pro processor yes
-2 Gb RAM yes
-64 Gb internal storage + MicroSD slot (64 Gb is enough for me, but more is better) (btw, as a curiosity, why all the internal storage sizes are on this order: 2-4-8-16-32-64-128-etc Gb?) 32GB internal + no microsd
-At least 720p screen, 4.8, more or less (what are other possible screen resolutions, between 720p and 1080p?) yes, 4.7" HD
-NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 (or if something news is launched till there) yes
-Body size at somewhat close to 130 mm in height. yes, 131.9 x 68.9 x 8.5 mm + 145 g
-True Walkman sound I don't know, they said nothing about audio quality
-True Cybershot camera tech. 16 Mp 16:9 sensor. are 13mp enough?
- Camera button. unfortenatelly no

And it resembles Ion quite a lot. So, I think your dreams just came true. Or at least 85% of them. And it's still 09 2012.

Furthermore, it also has:

QSlide Function: Full splitscreen, which can show two entirely separate screens side by side on one phone. We don’t know the limits of this functionality yet. Hopefully, there aren’t any limits.
Live Zooming: You can zoom in up to 5 times on videos you’re streaming (possibly local videos as well).
Dual Screen Dual Play: You can mirror your smartphone screen on the TV or project different content to your TV screen, like a PowerPoint presentation. While you project the slideshow, your phone can show notes.
QuickMemo: Allows you to draw on the screen and then use those notes in new ways.
Screen Zooming: You can zoom in and out of lists in certain apps like the music player, email app, texting app, and photo gallery. You can also change the screen layout and font size, I assume, of the entire phone.
Application Link: You can tell your Optimus G to launch certain apps, like email, as soon as you shut off your alarm in the morning, shaving valuable seconds off your day.
Icon Personalizer: Have you ever wanted to create your own icons? You will be able to change app icons and edit their size to better customize your phone.
And many more...

Does Sony have anything similar to compete with this?

Sorry for the ultra long quote, But this is probably spot on. If you want to wait for sony's 2013 device, then it should top whats presently available. Not play catch up. Its fine with the Xperia T right now, because its been only 3 months since the last best android and its on par. But with lg optimus g, and sony's next gen handsets, its going to be a long wait. While sony has been touting One sony for a year, lg has already done that with the optimus G. They just didnt put a higher capacity battery, but more durable and long lasting one etc.

Not saying that I will buy the lg optimus G, Heck I won't even recommend it to anyone thanks to their awful support. But its a good effort, and I hope Sony will put even more so to get back in the game and to a position where they belonged.

Sony was always making their new phones better than the previous ones. I don't think they ever looking for the top of the hill or mountain. It may happened once or twice (because it was more easy to achieve). Now they do small steps because development costs and some times a lot more than it will pay back. I've figured it out through the years, (that's my opinion). That's why every se/s fan was hoping for a crazy-speced device many steps from the previous models, and always letting them down by se/s. but sony is always my first choice, unless i can pay less and get a lot more from competition.

It will take decades for Sony to catch Apple or even Samsung if they continue to take small step as a time. The competition will not stand still.
In my opinion Sony will not be able to compete with Apple or even Samsung unless they come up with a custom SoC. The only reason Samsung was able to close the gap is because of the Exynos chip.
It separates Samsung from the rest of the Android crowd.
Sony has to have something that will separate theme from the rest as well. Using S4 SoC in all 2013 phones will not get it done because everybody else can have the same in their phone as well.

Loot at the benchmarks. Apple killed the competition.

I really can't blame people for not reading mediar's posts. Since his recent posts mostly contain non sense and attempts to "enlighten" normal people who he thinks are "brainwashed" Sony fans, its hard to take him seriously. Heck, even I wouldn't have taken his previous post seriously if it weren't for the comments above.
I don't think he would have said this if SE was still around, but his post makes sense this time, Sony is a year behind the competition again. Those 2011 phones were a year behind. Arc was playing catchup with Galaxy S and HTC desire. Xperia S was playing catchup with Galaxy S2 and sensation. Now looks like 2013 phones will also be a year behind. I thought Sony would change this age old SE tradition of bringing out phones with dated hardware. Seems like it isn't changing anytime soon.

@DACHA:

You talk from a user's POV, but from a developer's POV, a custom SoC will further increase the fragmentation problem in the Android ecosystem, and the one that will take all its toll will be the gaming segment, since it's not a child's play to optimize games on several different platforms, and Apple does not have this issue since iOS works only on a single hardware, who cares about all those useless benchmarks when not every app will run as it should on a specific hardware. have you ever seen Xperia S cough blood running an android HD game? Google is working hard to please developers by making Android as standardized as possible, but it's because of these Exynos, OMAPs and Snapdragons that developers prefer developing apps (particularly games) for the iOS platform first before they decide porting their apps to the android platform. honestly speaking even the iPhone 4s with its "weak hardware" plays more polished games than android. there's much more important matters to put focus to step up in the competition rather than this silly SoC superiority whatsoever that Samsung and the rest are pulling. in fact I expect Windows Phone 8 smartphones to best Android not on SoC benchmarks but on app content quality in just one year with it's very developer friendly shared-core approach with Windows 8.

Dont forget Iphone 5 have no HD screen.
Second, android is not a close OS while IOS is a close system.

My reaction means I'm sick of your posts. Perhaps you may have a post here and there with valid points but at this point, the moment I see your username, I can't help but think "here we go again.."

Surely, your post wrote up official specs for a phone that has yet to be released, so are those needs already fulfilled? Technically, no. While you may not be bashing Sony outright with your "factual" opinions in that particular post, the underlying tone is "Sony is crap, LG is better"..

Last I saw, this is a Sony thread and while we are free to have our opinions and criticize Sony phones and features, you take it to a level very few want to deal with. We get it, you don't like the 2012 line. You're a smart guy. You're not blinded by Sony fanboyism, so if you're unhappy then simply support another manufacturer and come back when Sony has produced something to your liking, if that ever happens again. Your repetitive rants, whether you intended to or not, have given you a foul reputation (at least with me) and if i could mute you, I would.

@ razec

My point was that the of the shelf SoC like Exynos, OMAPs and Krait are for the mass market and not well optimized.
For instance Samsung is using a Quad-core processor and is being outperformed by a dual core lower clocked processor in the iPhone. GS III has a 2100 mAh battery and does not last as long as the 1440 mAh battery in the iPhone. I understand that the GS III has a much larger screen but that is the only difference.
Motorola came out with the Razr MAXX to get longer battery life and some reviews mentioned that the new iPhone lasts almost as long as the Razr Maxx .
I am not an Apple fan, I love my XS but without groundbreaking hardware Android will always be behind Apple.
By ground braking I mean efficient hardware with good performance.

I kind of agree with you. More diverse a platform is, the harder it is to develop. Its one of the reasons why I see games such as nova3, dead trigger work faster and better on my ipad2 as compared to sgs3.

Sony should focus more on differentiating itself where it can for now. Like software and hardware(screen, camera, design, BATTERY life etc), improving the user experience. Not on a completely new SOC.

But then, if sony buys omap, and puts them on their own upcoming phones, then it will be advantageous to them as even the galaxy nexus is on an omap. Meaning better support from google for their builds.

Also one major thing to consider is the success of playstation mobile. If its indeed successful, then sony can easily create their own soc, heck even make it easier to develop for like how the vita is right now. This way developers will gladly shift and we will see great quality games and apps. Not just for sony mobile, but for all certified devices.

This all boils down to how serious they are about it. They have delayed plastation suite for a long time, and they are finally releasing it(in 9 countries only!) when the first certified phone (Xperia play) is already aged. By the time global owners of xperia play and many other ps phones get access to ps mobile, their phones will already be ancient and obsolete.
