I think it is very likely we will see an update to the XZ and XZ Compact lines (as usually there are 2 releases per year, one big release, one minor upgrade). Would be surprised by a 3rd flagship release though, as that would suggest another Premium, right after the XZ2 Premium has launched. Unless the 3rd device is just the international launch of the XZ2 Premium (as they've been pretty quiet about it outside of Japan).
Obviously the other possibility is that the 3rd flagship is the 10th anniversary device rumoured previously. |

Also if these depictions are accurate and they cannot fit the dual cam in the regular-sized flagship (XZ2 successor) then it is a massive fail |

I guess Sony did it on purpose to differentiate between the normal and premium version. If not, the premium will have nothing to stand out and not named "premium " |

If there's no dual cam on the next 'normal' flagship, then I'm happy with XZ2 now. XZ2P is already a handful to hold and obviously can't fit inside my pocket.

Went to a innovations meeting recently, saw some very nice phone designs and prototypes and got to try out a bunch of devices but not Sony. Had a hands on with a near zero bezel phone that I thought was great. It was like the iPhone X without the notch and it felt good using Android on it. Under screen scanner was alright, lower part of the phone but I think that may compromise the screen image quality, what I saw didn't look so hot. It needs to be something that say Sony could slot underneath their LCD screens rather than manufacture a new screen with it incorporated.
I saw some nice small camera sensors that were easily hidden within the tiny bezels, I think this is why the XZ2 'downgraded' their selfie camera as the XZ1 one is huge and particularly evident on the XZ1 Compact. There was a device with stereo speakers very similar to the old Z1 which contained the notification light, it spanned the entirety of the top and bottom edges yet the bezel was minimal. Looked very pretty when lit up.
Saw some notch screens too but with some interesting UI tweaks. One shows that you swipe down different menus from either side of the notch so it had the Android main notification from the right side but the left side has recent applications and web pages. I thought that was very nice and creative, it could have plenty of scope in the future for 3rd party launchers.
I hope that Sony can be a bit more bold with the XZ3 and think of ways to make the footprint smaller than the XZ2. I'm not concerned about bezel, I mean to make it thinner and less slippery on flat surfaces. They need to cut the fat and upgrade the Compact material to glass or metal ideally. A lot of steam is picking up on the iPhone SE replacement that will be very small but also have small bezels to be very pocketable. I think Apple fans would lose their minds over an SE with the front appearance of the iPhone X. I probably would lust over that device too.

Selfies cam of phones like XA2, XZ1c and M5 look bigger because of wider lenses.
M5 has too the 13MP 1/3.06" 1.12 micron sensor, just like X, XZ, XZ2P...
Cant say if same sensor, but same specs.

The model number still unknown, but yes I suspects it will be SO-01L (due to K family now too long), and maybe 801SO and SOV39 too

Thanks spektykles!
I guess global version will be 84xx. So I did quick search on Unprof but no luck. maybe different firmware.
Do you know the firmware version of this Akari? |

I don't think you need to use the number of cameras to differentiate between the two - size alone is enough of a differentiator. People who want a bigger phone can get the bigger one. For people who are basing their decision on price, okay some might be persuaded to get the more expensive, larger version to get dual cameras, but I think more people will base their decision on size, and in that case no amount of extra features will make them get a bigger phone (because it's too big for you!). On the contrary in fact, it makes them feel like they're getting ripped off and getting and inferior product (which they are). This strategy might work to a degree for Apple and Samsung, but that is because a lot of people who buy Apple (and to a lesser degree, Samsung) would never even consider another phone, so if they want the dual cameras they "don't have a choice". With Sony, most people will just buy another Android device instead, which is the same size as the "regular sized" version, but does offer dual cameras. They could just reduce the price difference and put dual cams in both... but obviously it's easier for them to fit it in a massive phone in the first place. Also the "regular" sized iphone is A LOT smaller than the "regular" sized Xperia, so Apple have more of an excuse (as there's a greater differentiation in size) |
