The real Z6 will have more of a drastic step up in specifications from the Z5, as opposed to the step up between the Z5 and X Performance.
Isn't this what we have heard since the original Z? The next one will be the real deal! Same for Z1, Z2 etc. |

I just keep repeating to myself, "There will eventually be a new Z Ultra! There will eventually be a new Z Ultra!"...
...
*sigh*
Ah well, wait and see.
I will say that I like the direction they've begun to go in with these X phones in terms of design. Metal back and rounded screen edges are very nice touches. The front facing speakers taking design cues from the Z3 are also perfect. It does make me excited for the eventual Z6 release as they'll have to aim to top the X series... at least I hope so. This is supposed to be the year we see their new design language, and by the time IFA rolls around they should have their new smartphone manufacturing facility up and running. Actually, could that be part of the reason the X series won't be coming out until Summer? They could be planning to manufacture it in their new facility, so they have to wait for it to come online.
Anyways, for now I'll just keep waiting... There will eventually be a new Z Ultra! There will eventually be a new Z Ultra! |

Releasing the phone in June seems reasonable. Sony did release Z2 and Z4 in June. If they did not release these phones in MWC, they will have pretty nothing to show.
Anyway, I am glad they they did not bring out their flagship this time round. They are more like items to please fans rather than making profit. Unfortunately, I do not see how Sony can turn the new X series into profit either.

Well... so long Sony??
I can't defend what they have now done, so it certainly seems they are scrapping the Z line and have replaced it with the X line, of which I cannot buy the 'high mid range' Performance model in the UK. And it's priced too high also.
So what about the Compact? Are they even going to make another high end small phone? I mean at the present I will be buying a Galaxy S7 once the price drops, it offers everything I want in the smallest size there currently is. I'll just have to deal with TouchWiz.
I have no idea what Sony is thinking right now, but to replace the current flagship with an updated device, and not offer it for sale in my country, and then not introduce a Compact version which may also now not be available in my country, is not the way to go to make me buy their products.
did no one see the article stating they have ditched the Z line up and replaced it with the X line then?

lol, why so dramatic? We have no official confirmation that the Z series is being replaced by the X series. It's been long rumored that Sony was going to break away from the 6 month release cycle of the Z series, and it looks like that's happened. |

Not being dramatic in the slightest, perhaps you should of read my link?
Here is an extract which to me certainly reads as they have dropped the Z series for the X series:
UPDATE: 15:33 PM, February 22
A Sony spokeswoman contacted AndroidPIT this afternoon to retract the original statement. The spokeswoman said the country manager who told AndroidPIT Italy that Xperia's Z line would be dropped had "mistakenly" revealed product roadmap details. The spokeswoman also said Sony would not publicly discuss the roadmap at this stage.
Also in this video from Mobilegeeks.de who were at MWC they seem pretty confident the X is replacing the Z:

If Sony indeed have ditched the Z line, hopefully in the future they will make the name shorter. Sony Xperia X Performance sounds too long and tacky to me.

@McKinley
It's just a name, who cares. Samsung, Apple etc use 'plus'. It's no different really.
Anyway, this thread is going off track again. Too much talk about the new 'X' series (it's now announced, keep it in the threads please) and Sony strategy.

she doesn't even know what she's talking about, don't even know the name of the phone she's handling...x pro/professional whatever
She said that there no finger print scanner....Sony says otherwise xperia-x specs and xperia-x-performance specs...the xa indeed doesn't....
Don't believe anything that those so-called reviewers say...just my 2 cents |

It seems that both X & XP will have 32GB internal for single SIM variant and 64GB for dual SIM variant...
Too bad as Sony them selfs prioritise the Single SIM variant in their Software Update Schedule not to mention the developers support is much better for the single SIM...
Wonder how the real flagship will do for a change in this internal memory thing.. maybe same, both variants 64GB, or 64GB for single SIM and 128GB for dual SIM.. if Sony in 2016 is the same Sony in 2015.. then nothing will change.. ie 32GB for Single & 64GB for Dual...
I just hope they unify the firmware for both

It's a good thing that that's not happening.

Two different ranges. Sony decided that the X Performance (which was going to be the Z6) was not as big of a step up from the Z5 as they had wanted, but didn't want to waste all their R&D, so they created the 'X' range, specifically the X Performance (my guess is that they then made the X and XA in order to make it a new range). At least if the Z6 is better than the X Performance, we know that it will be a great step up from the Z5 (I'm still on the original Z, so going for a Z6 next will be absolutely amazing for me!)

That was the writers opinion, not fact.
From the article:
"Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that the Xperia Z6 was well into its production life before it had its early 2016 launch date pulled in favor of a more significant Z series upgrade one full year after the Xperia Z5. If I was Sony, I wouldn’t want to waste all that R&D so I would probably do the same thing: slap another brand name on it and hope no one noticed the similarities."
It's up in the air at the moment, nothing OFFICIAL has been said. Time will tell if the Z still exists.

What nightwing wrote!
What if its a new strategy from Sony. Using the X-line as a pre Z-line? The X phones will work as a gap between the current Z5 and the next Z6. Instead of releasing a new Z every six months with smaller updates they can test new things in the X and then go all in on the Z? And they will have two diffrent, but similar, models on offer and create an illusion that each of them gets an annual update when in reality its the same old two "flags" a year were used to from Sony.
But announcment an release must med closer together. A month ideally.
But I am sooooo disapointed that there where no new tablet. Was kind of counting on it this time. |
