Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts: Fetch New Data = Manually
If you switch off WiFi and still receive email then you're using your operator's network for which you should sign up for some form of package, otherwise it may quite expensive.

The Incase Slider adds a little more bulk but a lot more protection yeah, plus you can get it in so many colours

My mother-in-law knitted my iPhone's case
It's a simple, made to measure, black woolen "sock" (for want of a better word) and it's perfect for me - it keeps dust and dirt off the phone, but slips off easily when I want to use it, and forms a protective cushion between the phone and any desk or table I might put it on. It won't stop a bullet, and it probably won't make much difference to a drop, but it's kept the phone clean and scratch free for the last 11 months and never got in the way...

so, itunes 9 and firmware version 3.1 is now out. I'll update mine tonight.
itunes 9 now improves the genius to suggest apps based on apps you already have.
It also provides the ability to configure your iphone desktops from within itunes. you can drag and drop the app icons to whichever desktop you like, including multiple apps at the same time.
There is also better "home" music handling so you can not only play other family members tunes, but also copy them to your library
apparantly 3.1 offers better (quicker) sync with exchange and also the voice dial can be utilised from a bluetooth headset now
let us know if you find any other new features

Updated my 3G this morning - not noticed any big differences yet, aside from the Genius feature in the Appstore which I'm not entirely convinced about. Itunes 9 seems nice enough.
Annoyed that the whole process of backing up and syncing, let alone the update itself, seemed to take forever on our PC - but it's possible that's more to do with the ageing PC. I'm preparing to put the top hat on my supposed "fanboy" credentials and replace it with a nice new Macbook Pro...

Updated as well. Back up is massively faster, only takes about a second on my 32gb 3Gs. Reception is definitely better as well.

A compass?! You mean one of the oldest inventions ever? (And something the HTC Dream had as well as all HTC android phones to date)
Video recording? Something I did on my original iPhone 2 years ago and on my 7600 back in 2003?
Auto Focus? Don't get me started.
Voice control? Again on my XDA back in 2003?
32 GB? Fair enough, thats quite large but not exactly exciting.
Maybe Apple have peaked and ran out of ideas. |

Ha yeah I guess I did.
I'm just fascinated by the lengths that Apple fans go to to keep up with it all. It's like an elitist club they think they're all in. This rant is mainly aimed at desktop PCs, laptops and iPods really because I would say that the iPhone is probably the best designed mobile phone ever made however the sheer smugness I get from Apple computer owners really bugs me!
I guess it's just a matter of the fact that I pirate lots of software that I couldn't on a mac. If I could afford it, my house would be full of Apple products!
Rant over. And slightly inconclusive. |

The smug thing is difficult, I know exactly how irritating it is, and I also know that since I got the iPhone last year I've become more smug, and I don't think I can help it (as smug as that sounds). Up till a year ago I'd never owned anything by Apple. Right now I'm planning to buy a Macbook Pro and ditch my two (very old) PCs in the process, and that's at least partly due to the iPhone and the fact that it's easily the best phone I've had in the last ten years. I already annoy the hell out of most people on this forum as a result, and once I'm 100% Mac I'll probably be a complete pariah - but a smug one, still. Unbearable, isn't it.
