I understand what you are saying but how often do you listen to music through a phone speaker? in this case a single phone speaker?

I can't say that I have ever listened to music that way. I use either a headset or my mps-60 mini speakers which give great performance

if you mean for hearing calls or messages then it seems loud enough for that too but perhaps if you have it in a case or in a tight pocket the speaker may be covered which will muffle the sound a bit I guess

after much deciding (and harrasment from orange- they upgraded someone elses phone on my account and wouldn't let me upgrade til they realised they were in the wrong) and thinking about k850, I think I'm gonna go for this one. k850 seems to have too many problems, is a bit of a brick (specially if you dont need a cam), plasticy

Had a w910 which i sent back cos didn't like it at all. But this seems perfect in terms of build quality, size, reliability, lovely metal casing. Will let people know what I think once I get it.

1 quick question.
does anyone know the how long the period is for the w890 black edition being exclusive to vodaphone. I'm really drawn to this colour variant over the silver one, but am on orange and dont want to swap cos i have a good loyalty contract.
If it is only a matter of weeks, then i suppose I can wait, but if it is longer then i don't know if i can be bothered.
What colour do you think is better anyway, silver or black? Silver is certainly more noticeable anyway.

sorry for double post

All colours are available on sim-free purchases, but I suspect Orange will stick with silver for quite a while. Best bet is probably to ask them if any other colours are coming along soon, though level of customer service help in these matters is usually poor in my experience - people who frequent these type of boards usually know much more about phones than the telephone operators (& the shop sale guys too!).

Which colour? Hmmm.... that's a tough one that I'm wrestling with too! They all look good in the flesh. I'm probably dawn more towards silver through it's classy look & it's less of a fashion colour, but that mocha brown is certainly a sweetie. Black is my least favourite. I wonder, too, if the black & brown will show signs of marking, paint war more than the silver? The silver on the 890i seems lighter, shinier than my 880i somehow. In truth I'm also thinking slyly that I can upgrade from a silver 880i to a silver 890i and 'she who must be obeyed' may not notice, ha ha! What do you think? Will I get away with it? ;0)

Good luck with your choice.

After analysing the pics and overall perfomance of w890 i think. This is not a balanced offering.I feel it should be marketed as a t Series phone. And neither the pic nor the sound or speaker quality is above average.

So people looking for balanced and best value offering with decent specification and to able to use as Primary phone.Should stay clear from this.
And the price is not is so impressive although if it was placed reasonably then it could be a mass market solution like nokia 6300.

Tbh t they have added a hsdpa network and radio thats the main diff between w880 and w890.And the Hsdpa is not available is most of the countries, so that doesn't create a such a wow factor for many.

People would get bored out of it with standard menus. And the same icons. They could have added atleast accelerometer a bigger screen or shake me ,or gesture contols, some visualization, some walkman player skins and some gimmicky stuff.would have made this phone more fun to use

So nothing ground breaking, And to sum it up,if u buy the phone just for the design, i think its pretty too pricey.

Price wise, is it costlier than w910? I think it should not be.

Thanks for your response. Think I'm happy to go with the silver as well- suits the aluminium material and is a bit more noticeable than the black (always misplace my phone and can't seem to find it)- plus yes i think scratching might be a concern. If your missus (or your mum- or whoever you might be referring to) is not too phone savvy and doesn't frequent these forums, then im sure youd get away with the upgrade.

@ the person above (sorry didnt see your name) I think the handset is justified simply because the the A200 platform in a slim build shell similar to w880. Screen could be a little bigger perhaps, but it is a small handset, and features like accelerometer are useless in a phone with small screen/ not camera based imo (w910 changing track thing is possibly the worst implementation of technology I have ever seen- i actually get angry thinking about it and sent it back straight away :S).

I'm still a little sceptical because as you say, it isn't really a primary handset and I only use one phone- but i do like the build and (from what others have said) quality and reliability so im going to upgrade to it anyway.

Hi,

I have just been sent the W890 in silver, unlike a few of the previous posters I think the phone is excellent and totally fit for purpose.

The whole idea of the W880/890 was to be small and sleek, it wasn't to have the best camera it was for people who wanted a well specified small phone. I think SE have done the job.

In the last few months I have tried the following phones: Viewty, N82, N95 8g, K850i. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. For me I decided the way I was using them I just wanted a small fully featured phone. I liked the W880 however the W890 is a great improvement with the keypad, HSDPA and RDS Radio. The build quality is excellent, as is the screen.

Anyone reviewing this phones needs to look at the who the phone is aimed for and what it is competing against rather than reeling off things it doesn't have, or in reality doesn't need!

ok.. so why put a 3.2MP cam? why not put, at least, an auto focus? why not just stick wit the 2mp or sumthin? just to make the price higher, maybe?? imo, it a completely waste or money.. but then again, its about everyone's preferences.. looks can be deceiving.. if people will get this phone, i think they are just paying for the design and not the features...

Peace!
