I have had no more problem since updating with the latest Dopod firmwar, its been nearly a solid week no reset no screen alignment problems at all.

I havent installed any software just to rule out what might be causing this issue, i will go ahead and start a one on one installation week in week out and assess this issue.

Mine has worked perfectly since i got it (bar a 3rd party app playing the fool) no screen issues, no keyboard issues, no camera issues?!?! Mine got a hammering in all 3 areas as i went on holiday with the thing. Im really annoyed for u guys.

Im not convinced most of the handsets are displaying "manufacturing" faults, it seems that some faults occur after using the phone capability or the camers etc....surely this could suggest software issues????

How do we know that down the line a ROM update wouldnt cure the lot??? many handsets experience bugs during the first months of launch im sure?!
(edit for typos lol)

if the keyboard issues were firmware then all units would exhibit the same fault when taken out of the box, but as I saw today with the units I tested they all act differently althout the space key has been common to most

@mrvanx

the first Voda TyTN I had the Delete, 'L' and RHS soft menu button on the keyboard did not work. The screen was also poor. The second TyTN I had the RHS keyboard soft menu button did not work. The Orange SPV M3100 I now have works fine in all areas that I have tested. Also the screen seems more sensitive, which I have heard may be a firmware issue but it could also be linked to the screen alignment issue (which may be hardware or firmware related or both).

On the opposite side I have no problems with my TyTN, keyboard, camera, screen all working fine. Voice command using the Voice dialler or the full version from the Dopod rom work great to voice dial, start music or applications, read SMS or appointments. Reformatting my microSD card sorted any problems there, call quality very good, no resets or freezes during normal use of built in apps: occasionally have to reset because of a 3rd party app. PIE over EDGE on TMo USA very quick, wifi quicker still. Took it for a trip last weekend with Destinator 6 and while D6 did not perform as expected the phone itself was solid, making calls and browsing. Switched back to Destinator PN and all is well. BT works ok for A2DP and AVRCP with a Nokia HS-12W and connection to a GPS and exchanging files with my BA.
No wake-up issues after being on the charger overnight and Activesync is quick to sync data, push email also works with no issues. Battery life not bad and easily lasts a day.

Looking forward to improvements with future updates, including AKU3.

Had it about just under 3 weeks, serial is 630.

the tytn I got was great except for the keyboard, some of the keys would not press, and some had to be pressed real hard to register, aside from that no issues.

I also got it from expansys damn them
sent back for a replacment

Been playing with the Orange TyTN

- managed to get it unlocked for UKP20, worth it and it was quick (see here )
- still don't like the screen, but adjusted the font size and used clear type fonts, which made looking at text in the browser okay (but not as good the P990, see the week view in FC mode)
- the TyTN has 13 buttons scattered around the device (not including the slide out key pad) and the 5 way navi key, seems a bit of an overkill
- keyboard backlight came on, which I belive is a good thing
- keys okay to use, but need to get used the predictive text (which I never used on my Universal)
- you need a screen protector on this device (better order one quick!)
- nice shape, feels good in the hand
- Activesync worked okay, no fuss

Will try a few apps and must order a MicroSD card. Will try Agenda Fusion and MS Reader and perhaps Opera.

Current position - not sold on it yet but if the P990 firmware does not get fixed soon....

I am in the same position.
Love the P990 and its potential which has yet to be realized..However
it is difficult to totally accept a device when you have to reboot it every 2 days in order to get it to work properly..

On the other hand after recently updating the ROM of the TyTN I have an extremely stable device..In fact i have never experienced windows mobile 5 to be so stable, which is refreshing..

I will just hang on to using the P990 as my main phone for now waiting to see what SE do with the next FW update..

I've tried Opera on WM5 and I don't like it. I much prefer pocket IE with SPB plus extensions
I've never used a screen protector and am a bit unclear why I "need" one
(un)fortunately I type so fast that I rarely see the predictive text on either the TyTN or the P990

My latest TyTN is now fully synchronised and setup and has been installed with all the apps I own. Thats one good thing about WM devices in that the keys revolve around the device name (which I set to my first name) unlike P series etc which is specific to the IMEI. So I can move my apps with ease from WM device to WM device (though I'm still waiting for MS to make voice command WM5 compatible)

Despite having had to use the P990 for the last 10 days I feel so much more comfortable and satisfied back on the TyTN! and those blue keyboard backlights make dark typing so easy and comfortable.

I must say that resetting the P990 has become a twice daily event though and its so annoying still to have the web app closed down on me when I have several pages setup for quick browsing, just because I read a PDF document or something similar which required a bit of memory...

The strongest point the TyTN has is in my opinion the fact that you can install a great number of applications, and some can be quite heavy, and the device still remains snappy and 'fresh'..

And the other one is as it was just mentioned, the fact that you can reuse all your preferrred and loved applications time and time again without extra cost..Apart from the cost it is nice to be able to work in your own familiar application 'environment' should you want to change your device, or return a faulty one for that matter!!
I would hate to think what would have happened if i had just bought 10 applications for my P990 to find that i had to return it for a replacement..

I do find the design of the TyTN a bit old fashioned and 'heavy' however, and i look forward with anticipation to the upcoming HTC products..
And design is the area where the P990 scores heavily over the TyTN, despite the glorious keyboard..

I've spoken several times in the last 2 weeks with HTC UK support and they are genuinely interested in the problems we are discussing here.

I get call references for each call and they tie each call together and this keyboard non responsiveness has been escalated to their HO in Taiwan and I get names who I can call or who will call me back.

much better than SE customer "robot" service and although I was impressed in general by i-mate support I have to say HTC is doing a much better job.

I'm getting so much confidence from HTC from all this and have already built a good relationship that they have called me for further feedback and discussion twice today regaring my experience in searching for a stable TyTN

Despite my years of SE support here especially with T and K series but perhaps not so much for the P series although I have been through all models, I have never had such warm feeling of sincere interest from SE that I'm getting from HTC and I really appreciate that as someone who will put the effort in if something good can come of it.

In some ways, despite meeting several possibly influential people from SE at the symbian show last year the day after P990 was announced I have never had so much as the simple offer of beta units for testing and comment and I really feel that my time on Esato deserves a little of that compared with some of the sites out there that seem to always gets advanced units to test

hmmm.. this seems to have turned into a bit of a sour grapes post but sometimes I do feel that way given my HUGE interest and following of SE products despite my personal interest in WM devices

I am quite amazed at HTC's apparent poor level of quality control regarding the TyTn as it seems there are quite a lot of people who are genuinely experiencing problems regarding build quality. Have previous HTC devices suffered from similar problems or might it just be that they've just rushed the TyTn out to get the jump on the P990i?

Adding my voice to those who seem fortunate to own a reliable device... I have had no problems with the screen, the keyboard or the backlight / flash (guess I was one of the lucky ones eh? )

I even dropped it in the pub last weekend (it fell out of my old P900 Krusell 'Dynamic' case - my fault didn't close it properly) and despite the battery flying out it still works and not a scratch on it..

On the whole the device is very stable, it runs TomTom faultlessly (one of the main reasons I didn't wait for the P990i as I couldn't see it running in the 15MB or so available to programs) and most of crashes / lock up's I seem to get are down to errant 3rd party app's not playing with each other too well rather than WM5 being a typically buggy Microsux product.(issues with Chronos and PhoneAlarm clashing at the moment!).

I am toying with the idea of flashing the ROM to the latest version available at XDA-Dev's but given the overall stability and performance I am currently getting from the thing I'm reluctant to 'fix' what isn't broken.

Jah... as there wasn't any Martin Fields screen protectors around at the time I ordered one from proporta.com, it fits perfectly and went on with no bubbles or hassle - if you don't mind the anti-glare type of screenie you might want to give them a try if you cant find one anywhere else.

You are making a good point here although i am not the best person to judge as i have not been here long..

This is why it is extremely important that people try and make judgements on these devices based on actual experience and facts, trying not to be influenced too much about the weight a brand name carries..
I am sure most of you that have been here a long time have done this and this is the main reason this site is so well thought of and so popular..

SE have benefited immensly from this site too and they should stop and listen to what the more knowledgeable members have to say..Public feedback is important.. Expert public feedback is vital!!
They should therefore be more instrumental in involving enthusiasts in the critically importnat initial evaluation stages of a device..
